Michael Louis Scott's Notes September 2023

09/30/23 Saturday 11:55 P.M.  From the brass and glass coffee table on the left side of the Ethan Allen recliner, I moved the Ocean Digital Internet Radio receiver to the far end back of the oak dining table with the two short wave radios sitting on top of it.  It plays off the Craig sound bar on the back side of the Ethan Allen recliner just fine.  I have the Ocean Digital Internet Radio receiver remote control and the Craig Sound Bar remote control sitting on top of the Ocean Digital Internet receiver.  I also trimmed the pathos plant that was growing over the Ethan Allen recliner.  I put a place mat on the far end of the oak dining table.

09/30/23 Saturday 11:05 P.M.  I will now go outside again.  I picked up my mail earlier today.  CIO

09/30/23 Saturday 10:55 P.M.  I went through http://scott-mike.com/bf.htm .  CIO

09/30/23 Saturday 10:35 P.M.  Yesterday, when it rained a lot on September 29 was St. Michael's Day, so Saint Michael must like rain.  In the old days in Scotland, it was legal to steal a horse on St. Michael's Day.   Saint Michael's Day is the third highest holy day in the Christian European Calendar.  In the European Christ Calendar, it is like Thanksgiving Day or the Feast of the Harvest.  CIO

09/30/23 Saturday 9:55 P.M.  From the shoe racks, I put a dozen pairs of shoes, sneakers, and boots in a leaf bag.  From the hallway sweater closet, I put two dozen sweaters in a leaf bag.  I then took them all to the clothing and shoe drop container at the rear of the Stop and Shop parking area at 161 West Putnam Avenue, and I put them in the containers.  I then went to the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 6 ounce bag of baby spinach for $3.99, a six pack of Stop and Shop English muffins for $1.99, and a 48 ounce Silk vanilla unsweetened almond milk for $3.99 for $9.97 total.  I then bought a four pack of croissants from the clearance section for $2.99.  I then returned home.   I put away the groceries.  I put the grey bag in the car.  I sat outside.  I then moved the Eton shortwave radio from the near left side of the oak dining table to the far end of the oak dining table next to the other radio.  I filed this report.

I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

09/30/23 Saturday 7:30 P.M.  I chatted with a relative and a friend.  I drank my coffee outside.  From behind the primary work computer chair, I gave a neighbor two telescopes and another neighbor a case of Chinese microwave soup bowls.  I threw out the paper shredder and the Phillips Iphone docking station.  I threw out two extra large pillows.  I threw out two old cases of macaroni and cheese, two old cases of Quaker food bars. and two cases of old microwave soup.

09/30/23 Saturday 1:50 A.M.  From the far end of the oak dining table, I disconnected the 32 inch Insignia TV monitor, and I gave it to a neighbor with its remote control.  I then disconnected the four Dell and HP desktop computers and the HP Tower computer, and I took out their SSD drives, and I threw them away.  I moved the Dell XP Studio tower to underneath the desk to the left of the primary work computer.  I threw out the Logitech 2.1 speaker system.  I also threw out the old 32 inch Westinghouse TV that was underneath the right front of the bed.  I untangled the cables, and I put them in a bag underneath the oak dining table.  I put the wireless mice and wireless keyboards in a bag underneath the left front of the bed.  I put the webcams in a bag underneath the right front of the bed.  I put the headsets in a bag underneath the bedroom desk.  I put smaller parts in the bottom left living room desk drawer.

09/29/23 Friday 7:20 P.M.  I went outside, and I drank a brewed coffee.

I got to work on clearing out my apartment.  I gave to a neighbor the computer desk chair at the apartment entrance with cushions, to the left of it the Harvard chair with cushions, from the floor of the right living room closet which now opens the Hoover vacuum cleaner, from in front of the mahogany bureau the two Lasko space heaters with remote controls, from the floor on the left side on the dining table the Wal-Mart air fryer.  From the same location I gave another neighbor the Welbilt bread machine and also sugar and flour containers and two containers of yeast.  From that location I also threw out the water sprayer and the tea bag holder.  From the floor of the right living room closet, I threw out the three Brita water containers, the salad container, tennis and squash rackets.  On the floor of the right living room closet, I put the computer sachel bags and three pairs of snow boots and a pair of house slippers and a pair of top siders.  I also swept the floor in front of the right living room closet, and I put the blue recycle plastic pale in front of it.  I went out a number of times moving the stuff.  Now the entry way of the apartment looks a lot neater and there is more passage way in front of the mahogany bureau.  I still have a lot more work to do.  I  was told by my social worker not to throw out the comfortable Queen Anne chair at the hallway entrance which I use for watching television.

09/29/23 Friday 4:55 A.M.  In the right living room closet blocked by the Harvard chair and the computer chair, I have my coats and jackets hanging.  On the floor, I have a collapsible Hoover vacuum cleaner and a shoe polishing kit.  On the shelf I have a new microwave cooking pot with lid and a few other items.  The left living room closet which is blocked by the stainless steel cart can be opened by moving the stainless steel cart on wheels to the right.  I have my more formal clothes which I never wear in the left living room closet.  I don't think anything is on the floor.  On the shelf I have some boxes of old computer parts, a two foot artificial Christmas wreath and a artificial Christmas wreath.  CIO

09/29/23 Friday 4:10 A.M.  For October 2023, I paid my Verizon telephone and my Eversource electricity bills and Optimum Online bill which is now $242 for three Optimum services.  I paid my rent to the Housing Authority of Greenwich.

09/29/23 Friday 3:25 A.M.  After moving off Nantucket in December 1983, the last time I visited Nantucket was for a weekend around the summer of 1987, when I went up there with a friend from North Salem, New York.  When I lived at 315 West 74th Street in Manhattan around 1980, I drove up to Boston for the 350th Birthday of Boston and also visited Cambridge.  Two of three times in the recent past, I have changed trains or buses in Boston coming from or going to Kennebunkport.  More recently, I dropped a German bicycle rider off in Newton at the Marriott Hotel there.  When I lived in the Boston area, during the summers, I recall visiting Myles McGough from Katonah, New York at a dairy farm in St. Johnsbury, Vermont; where he restored Liberty Ship hatch covers.  Myles also had an apartment off Harvard Square, where he an his roommate once gave two dozen Doberman Pincher puppies on a Sunday afternoon at Harvard Square.  While living in Weston and working at Polaroid in Cambridge, I would frequently go into Cambridge to the Club Casablanca for a Heineken to network with any Harvard students.  I once saw two classmates from Greenwich Country Day school there.  At the Pier One Imports building where the Club Casablanca was, there was also a European coffee shop like what is very common in America today.  I would also visit James Paul Warburg Jr. at his apartment on Joy Street on Beacon Hill.  He had dropped out of Harvard, and worked in the parts department at SAAB on Commonwealth Avenue.  He had me go to a wedding for a friend of his Dan Hamilton too.  Like today in those days, there were a lot of students in the Boston area.  CIO

I could get rid of the computer chair at the apartment entrance and the www.harvard.edu chair both of which are  in front of the right living room closet.  I would leave the stainless steel cart in front of the left living closet and the Queen Anne TV chair at the hallway entrance.

I will now go outside again.  CIO

09/29/23 Friday 1:35 A.M.  I will now go outside and drink another brewed coffee.  CIO

09/29/23 Friday 1:30 A.M.  I also chatted with a friend while I was sleeping this afternoon.  I have a 3:30 P.M. appointment with my social worker in my apartment today to discuss how I can improve it.

I am thinking of getting rid of the three chairs in front of the living room closets and put the stainless steel cart with the laptops, where the Queen Anne chair is at the hallway entrance.  I also have to get rid of shoes and maybe one of the shoe racks.  I will discuss that with my social worker.  Thus there would not be as many comfortable sitting places, but I never have guests anyway.  The living room closets could be opened, but I hardly ever open them anyway.  However, there would not be a comfortable place to watch the 49 inch Samsung television.  CIO

09/29/23 Friday 1:10 A.M.  I drank my coffee outside.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  CIO

09/29/23 Friday 12:25 A.M.  I woke up, and I chatted with two relatives.  I finally woke up at 11:40 P.M..  I made my bed.  I went outside.  I got my Renter's Rebate statement, and I will be getting $552.75.  The order with tracking of https://www.amazon.com/progress-tracker/package/ref=pt_redirect_from_gp?_encoding=UTF8&from=gp&itemId=qlnplslmsktrsn&orderId=111-0899964-7018616&packageIndex=0&shipmentId=233068550823301 for two 15 ounce Wish Bone light creamy Caesar salad dressing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MZH04UZ?ie=UTF8&_encoding=UTF8&tag=bensbargaicenter&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325&th=1 for $2.32 each for $4.64 off my State of Connecticut EBT Food Stamps card arrived, but I only got one bottle.  I will eat a Jimmy Dean Sausage, Egg, and cheese croissant with two toasted English muffins with Smart Balance spread, and pineapple chunks with mandarin oranges, and a glass of spring water with some pineapple juice and cranberry juice and a cup of coffee with artificial sweetener and almond milk.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 12:50 P.M.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 12:35 P.M.  As I recall the first time I recall going to www.nantucket.net was either the summer of 1968 or 1969, when my family first moved to the Boston area, and my father was the vice president of manufacturing at Polaroid, when Polaroid was a prosperous company in the Boston area.  I recall wandering around downtown Nantucket and swimming at the Jetties beach, and I was all salty and grubby.  I am not sure if that is the time I met up with my Lake Forest College and Taft School classmate from Princeton, New Jersey or not, but I recall sleeping on the floor of a one bedroom apartment on Orange Street with a number of other young people from Greenwich.  George Witbold who was a classmate at Greenwich Country Day had the apartment.  I was told while at Greenwich Country Day, George's father owned the florist at the Waldorf Astoria, so they could afford to live in Greenwich.  A lot of Greenwich people have businesses in Manhattan to keep the country going.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 11:25 A.M.  I went to my 9:30 appointment at the Greenwich Hospital.  The doctor told me, the iron pill would make my condition worse.  So much for self medication.  We also chatted with my social worker on speaker phone about my housing eviction.  My social worker is going to visit me tomorrow to give me tips on improving my apartment.  I then went downtown to the Senior and the Arts Center.  I sat outside for a half hour and paid 75 cents to park there.  I used the bathroom there.  I then returned home, and I sat outside.  I left a telephone message at the Greenwich Housing Authority with our building supervisor.

I will now go outside again and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 8:10 A.M.  I changed my appointment to 9:30 A.M..  I will now shower and clean up.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 7:15 A.M.  I chatted with a friend.

I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 6:25 A.M.  Not much happening here on a night schedule, but I do have an important 2 P.M. appointment today.  I think better on a night schedule based on my experiences versus the day time people whom are usually doing ordinary errands in this neck of the woods.  When I first returned to www.nantucket.net in the summer of 1975, I only knew Sandy Carlson, Jim Eldert, and Fred Von Mierers there; but I met up with my room mate from www.lakeforest.edu Carter Bacon from Hyanisport and his friend Priss Watts from Marblehead, Massachusetts whose step father was the Chairman of Lipton Tea and whose boat number was MS 7.  On previous trips to Nantucket starting in the summer of 1968, my family were friends of the Wood family from Dedham that started the Nantucket Yacht Club and whose father was on the Board of Overseers for www.harvard.edu , and as I recall on my first trip, I met up with another www.lakeforest.edu classmate Guy Erdman from Princeton, New Jersey, and possibly on the third trip in that period, I went with a friend whose father was the station manager for the British Overseas Airline Corporation in Boston.  In the dishwashing years there I would frequently see Henry Cabot Lodge Junior at the Dory restaurant for breakfast, and he was Richard Nixon's ambassador to Viet Nam.  At the time when Polaroid was a prosperous company in the Boston area, they probably had a lot very good lawyers in the area.  When I graduated from Lake Forest College, I had a job interview at First Boston to be a trust officer for a horse shoe stable in Springfield, Massachusetts, and it turned out that horse shoe stable became www.gm.com .  Having had that interview, I have met a lot of members of founding families of General Motors, and even the Durant theatre at Lake Forest College was named after the first president of General Motors.  On a minor note with the auto workers strike going on, my economics advisor at Lake Forest College also used to work for the auto union representing them in labor negotiations.  Also General Motors has the largest law firm in the United States of America in Chicago with about six thousand lawyers.  My father's first wife's family the Coon family that owned General Finance Company paid to start the Northwestern University Law School too.  Of course with members of the www.ford.com family living in Greenwich, they probably already know this as do the members of the Dodge family in Greenwich too.  Of course it takes one of my friend's family's railroad to move a lot of stuff back east which is not made here on the East Coast.  General Motors used to have a factory in Tarrytown, New York; which is why people used to be more friendly here.

I will now go outside again.  CIO

09/28/23 Thursday 5:45 A.M.  Three hungry deer just walked by looking for more apples.  This time of year up in North Salem, New York; there is the Height family farm with lots of fresh produce near that hamburger place http://www.theblazerpub.com/ near the Sons of Oslo lodge up in North Salem, New York.  My only friend in the area used to live there until he became interested in the waterfront.  The young girl who used to think I was a Secret Service at the Metropolitan Museum of Art across from where she lived also lives there.  A few other deja vue people also live up there where President Grant also lived.  Alas knowing history makes me more cautious than younger people might be still getting their education.  A distant relative John Jay used to live in Bedford, New York; and his family's property was once the Scott family property in Manhattan.  In covering the Steamboat Road pier for 40 years, I used to chat with a Federal Judge from Bedford, New York with a NRA sticker on his car, and another guy with dark sun glasses who liked Elk hunting out west.  However, that waterfront property got so expensive near another local judge that lived down there, I guess people do not want to venture into back country any more, and prefer to walk around downtown and be near the Metro North train station.  Since all of the local established people like to stay private, it is only the younger people who seem to venture on the internet and know their way around.  Since I took typing at Eastern Middle school in the summer, when I was 15 years old sitting next to a Greenwich Country Day school classmate Mike Morano on an www.ibm.com Selectric, I know he also knows how to type to.  However, with lawyers they are always trying to make money, which does not help for disabled people with little or no funds.

09/26/23 Tuesday 4:05 A.M.  Not much happening.  The two HP 17 inch Elitebook laptops with the Windows Canary beta have 120 GB SSD drives, so it is possible one of them could have their SSD drive shrunk to hold the new Canary beta, but that is not really important.  I think one of the Dell Latitude E 6400 or E 6410 laptops could have their hard drive shrunk to hold the new beta, but once again that is not important.  The two Dell 17 inch laptops have 120 SSD drives, so they could have their SSD drives shrunk for the newest beta, but once again that is not necessary.  The beta needs 60 GB of hard drive space.

Nobody communicates with me bothering them with my computer activity, and as far as I can tell nobody looks at my two web sites, so I just keep busy as best as I can afford.  I also have a bit of time available, when I am not sleeping 12 to 14 hours a day which as a disable person is necessary for me.

!!!!!! 09/26/23 Tuesday 2:35 A.M.  On Beta Testing the newest Windows betas on older machines, one can try this an created a Windows 11 beta Rufus for older machines with this method by downloading the latest Windows 11 beta 25931 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso?rfs=1 , and I used this procedure for Windows 11 on an older PC, Windows 11 Rufus installed from USB Pen Drive  I made a Windows 11 Rufus USB pen drive with this method this https://rufus.ie/en/ to created a Windows 11 bootable USB pen drive for it to upgrade https://www.elevenforum.com/t/create-bootable-windows-11-iso-without-tpm-secure-boot-and-ram-requirements.1891/ I formatted the over 8 GB USB pen drive in NTFS, and I set Rufus to "MBR" selected and the second and third advanced options selected, also select options no TPM/no Secure boot.  The different language versions of the Windows 11 *.iso download are here https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows11 thus for example if one wanted Windows 11 Professional in French download the *.iso file and make the Windows 11 Rufus USB pen drive the same way.  Once again the Complete PC backup does not work, but Aomei backup does work. Microsoft does not pay its beta tester minions, but one learns a bit about their operating systems for free.  Also on the beta disk manager does not work, unless one uses this way run a CMD prompt as Administrator, and run, "compmgmt.msc" .  CIO

I will now go outside again.

09/25/23 Monday 11:00 P.M.  On the upper Dell Optiplex 790 SFF factor on the right side of the primary work computer on the desk with the Canary beta, I shrank the partition, and I installed the latest Canary beta that works.  It is more colorful with lots of bamboo like it is out of China.  I will configure it shortly.  Its OS is activated.  I will not put Office 2021 on it, since it is just a beta which will be changed with future Canary betas.

Having been around Microsoft since I used to test DOS 3 off the used computers at the used computer store on Grigg Street here in Greenwich, I am a bit familiar with the Microsoft operating systems.  However, actually the first copy of a Microsoft product that I actually  bought was at the Egghead software store in Old Greenwich, when www.ibm.com came out with OS/2 which included Windows 3.0 for a $100.  I threw that copy away years ago.  However, in the old days, when I drove over to the Egghead Software store in Rockland County across the Hudson River with Roger Schultz who weighed over 600 pounds, for $5 I bought a Graphical User Interface for DOS 3.0 which predated Windows 3.0.  Alas how times have changed in the personal computer business, when every one locally seems to like to use the Apple Iphones starting at $800.  Roger Schultz gave me a copy of Word Perfect, which I could not afford to buy.  Back in those days, he was networking on the internet with someone from Vermont.  He lived across the street from my father's old company Asea Brown Boveri, so he might know a bit about computers after all of these years.  He was a friend of Nancy Carnegie Rockefeller's and his family attended Christ Church here in Greenwich.  CIO

09/25/23 Monday 8:45 P.M.  A www.lakeforest.edu classmate visited this place https://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/Splendid_Legacy_The_Havemeyer_Collection recently with his family, so I guess the Big Apple is still getting tourists.  I was told by a friend that recently rested at the www.yale.edu Club in Manhattan that the Roosevelt Hotel with all of the illegal aliens is nearby it, all of which is next to Grand Central Terminal, so I guess if they have the money, the illegal aliens can come out here and visit on Metro North.

09/19/23 Tuesday 3:25 P.M.  I rested a bit.  I went outside.  The two winters I was homeless in South Florida, I only ate a peanut butter sandwich once a day and a orange and coffee, and occasionally a yogurt, when I could afford a quarter cash.  Down in Key West in the winter of 1977, when I went to the Salvation Army, they only gave me a can of corn.  Down in Key West in the Winter of 1978, the friend that I met, when he offered me a Marlboro had $1,500 cash, so I hung around him and his family for five years.  In Key West during the Winter of 1978, we ate Cuban bread and orange juice for breakfast and for dinner for about two dollars each we ate beans and rice and a little Cuban restaurant or pancakes at another place.  When we went back to Nantucket, we had jobs, so we survived better.  Down in Florida, they do not give jobs to people from up North, whom they call Snow Birds.

As a matter of note, as far as I know, the last pay phone in Greenwich, Connecticut is in the lobby of the Greenwich Hospital opposite the main entrance elevators, and I think it is a dollar in quarters for three minutes any where in the world.

09/16/23 Saturday 9:15 P.M.  I went outside.  I channel surfed.  When nobody communicates with one, I guess it safe for one to consider themselves over the hill so to speak.  Alas I can keep typing or blowing for whatever it is worth.  I do have a bit of experience reading books, before I started working with personal computers in 1989.  Alas, the New York Times Literary group in Greenwich seem to think they know it all, but I am not sure how much real world experience they actually have outside of this area.  My experience with five trips to Europe totaling almost a year's time is that one spends a lot of time walking around various European cities looking at the historical architecture in the older parts of the cities.  However, they do have newer high rise parts in the surrounding areas and suburbs too.  Since few people network with me out here in the suburbs, I guess they are focused on their own real world experiences from what they seem to know.  I am sure a lot of my neighbors out here have New York City experience or have lived there.  With the nearby Westchester County airport, there are quite a few people that travel in and out of this area from other areas.  I even once flew from Westchester airport with a stop in Chicago and on to John Wayne airport near Laguna Beach, California.  I first flew into this area around the winter of 1962 on Mohawk Airways to interview at Greenwich Country Day School, and that June we moved here from Decatur, Alabama.  Thus I have been around here for almost sixty years or most of my life.  However, the younger generation here with the internet have different real world experiences.  Remember, if one is younger and has a bit of money, it is easier to travel than when one is older and out of shape to do a lot of walking.

I think my medical disorder of https://www.nami.org/About-Mental-Illness/Mental-Health-Conditions/Schizoaffective-Disorder might have been caused, the night in December 1980, I took a walk through Central Park to the Waldorf Astoria, and showed the white German Shepard to the secret service at the Waldorf covering Ronald Reagan, when he first showed up in Manhattan after getting elected.  When I walked back through Central Park, the White German Shepard walked me down West 71st Street, and that was just after John Lennon had been shot at West 72nd Street and Central Park West at his Dakota apartment building.  Also the winters of 1976 through 1977 and 1977 through 1978, when I was homeless in South Florida might have lead to it also.  Also at the same time that John Lennon was shot, I read in the daily news that somebody that I knew that looked like me named Chris Bonner whose father was a pilot with Pan Am that Fred Von Mierers introduced me to in 1973 was shot dead on Third Avenue.  Also two months after the Reagan inaugural which I attended, I flew back down to Washington D.C., and I flew back on the Eastern Flight, and Ed Meece the new attorney general was sitting next to me, and he told me, if I did not get out of the West Village and the Chelsea area of Manhattan, I was going to end up on a meat hook.  At the time I was told by lots of people that I looked like the ABC News announcer Peter Jennings.  I lived about ten blocks from the ABC news building on the West Side.  Also when I was homeless in Florida, I had to deal with two million alligators, fifty thousand crocodiles, Florida grey panthers, and coral snakes.  Also my family knew the Heissinga family in the summers in Holland, Michigan; and Wayne Heissinga was the first billionaire in Florida with www.wm.com , so he was in competition with the local garbage people down there.  Also being a neighbor of the Bushs in Greenwich and Kennebunkport and the Trumps in Greenwich made me a bit leery about what might around here.  All of these events made me a bit scared, which is one reason I liked www.nantucket.net where I had www.af.mil security.  Also, once when I was parking on Beekman Place in the winter of 1975, about eight men came out of a town house spraying machine guns in the air, and there was no police presence that responded.  Also back around July 3, 1990; I chatted with somebody from Bermuda for a couple of hours at a Manhattan pub, and when we offered him a ride, he mugged us with a fifteen inch gravity knife.  In the conversation, he was familiar with Greenwich, Connecticut.  Also when I attended the Reagan inaugural in January 1981, I was standing in front of the FBI building, when Reagan paraded by after being sworn in, and there was a flash from a building roof like sniper fire.  Another time around 1990 on the third week of May, I was fired at by a sniper at the Tod's Point Beach in the southwest picnic area, when I was just bird watching.  Plus in the old days of aviation before I moved to Greenwich and when I was in college in Illinois, we had a lot of rough flights.  I also had two automobile wrecks in Greenwich.  A number of random events like being caught in a rip tide on the south shore of Nantucket in October 1977 can make one overly cautious for better or worse.  I also avoid the busy highways in this area.  Also knowing Jimmy Eldert who was the godson of E. Howard Hunt of the CIA, I probably had some people pulling dirty tricks on me.  Also knowing the nephew of W. Averill Harriaman's sister, I was probably around some Democrats with a different agenda.  CIO

09/15/23 Friday 4:35 A.M.  I rested until now.  I will now shut down the primary work computer.  I will eat a yogurt.  I will then go to bed.  CIO

09/15/23 Friday 2:30 A.M.  Back from December 1980 to February 1982, when I had to move out when it was a minus 26 degree Fahrenheit wind chill factor in Manhattan, when I was living at Julie Bolton's apartment at 315 West 74th Street, there was not too much food.  Once a day, I used to go to Gristedes on West 72nd Street and get a roast beef sandwich with mayo on a Kaiser roll for $2.79, when I could afford it.  I once ate at the 24 hour McDonalds  behind Lincoln Center, but the hamburger was over cooked and dry.  When I covered Uncle Charlie's on Greenwich Street in the west Greenwich Village, sometimes on the corner of Charles Street, there was a little 24 hour restaurant, where on could get Eggs Benedict or Eggs Florentine with toasted English Muffin with butter and a cup of coffee for about $2 and a quarter tip.  On West Christopher Street, there was David's Pot Belly, where there were all sorts of omelets with toasted English muffins for about $4 and a fifty cent tip.  In the days from October 1973 to February 1975 in the west Greenwich Village, there was the Pink Tea Cup, where a two egg breakfast with bacon and toast and coffee was about $2.  Balducci's was in the neighborhood at 7th Avenue and about Ninth Street, but a big red apple was expensive at a dollar.  Nearby across the street on Seventh Avenue was Ray's famous pizza, where a slice was 59 cents.  I could never afford to eat at Nathan's at Seventh Avenue and Eighth Street.  However, once could get a hamburger at Julius for $2 near the Ninth Circle.  An expensive meal at Seventh Avenue and around Seventh Street at the Buffalo Road House or at Seventh Avenue and 9th Street at the Rivera Cafe was a blue cheese hamburger for about $4.  Just north of the Rivera Cafe on West Ninth Street, there was a vegetarian restaurant, where a sandwich was about $4.  The best deal was on University Place just north of East 13th Street, where a souvlaki was a $1.29.  If I was around the expensive upper East Side on East 86th Street between Madison and Third Avenue, where a roast beef sandwich with mayo on a Kaiser roll was about $4.  There was a Hungarian restaurant on Second Avenue just south of 86th Street, where Hungarian goulash was about $2.  One of my favorite expensive restaurants was at East 66th Street and Third Avenue, where fish and chips at Arthur Treacher's was about $4.  At www.rockefeller.edu  on East 65th Street and York Avenue, there was a cafeteria, where an apple and a Dannon yogurt and a 8 ounce container of milk was about $2, so I guess the do not pay the Nobel Laureates there too much.  At 49th Street and Second Avenue on the southeast corner was a bakery that had fresh croissants from Paris, France flown in on the Concorde for about 59 cents.  At 50th Street and Second Avenue on the east side was the Thieve's deli where a liverwurst sandwich was about $2.  On the lower level of the new Citibank Building on Third Avenue and about 52nd Street, there was a cafe and nice bathroom, where a croissant and coffee was about $2.  For the large population in Manhattan, they do not have too many inexpensive grocery stores.  Also east of Washington Square, there was the Bagel on Christopher Street, where bacon and two eggs and toasted English muffin with butter and coffee was $2 and a quarter tip.  When I was around Fred Von Mierers' apartment at 420 East 49th Street from October 1973 to February 1975, about once a month, he would take a few of us to the Isle of Capri at 59th Street and Third Avenue for Fettuccini Alfredo and a glass of white wine for about $10 and $2 tip.  By my Greenwich, Connecticut standards, Fred seemed to have a lot of money.  At First Avenue and 50th Street, there was a Greek coffee shop, where two eggs, bacon, English muffin with money, and coffee was $2 and a fifty cent tip, and one could sit there and read the New York Time, which cost about 35 cents.  I never ventured onto United Nations Property, because it looked very expensive.  I did once go with Julie Bolton to a Piano Bar in the Lobby of the Hyatt Hotel on the East Side of the United Nations, and they played 1950s music, and once could see everyone else in the place through the reflecting mirrors on the walls.  The was a Lum's across from the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Federal Building at Third Avenue and 54th street, and a hot dog, there was about 59 cents.  On East 49th Street near Fred's was a small Gristedes, where four Dannon yogurts was a dollar.  East 49th Street was like something out of the old television show, "The Man from Uncle."  The CBS Broadcast Building on the far end of West 57 Street had a cafeteria with $2 sandwiches, but one has to be an employee to eat there.  I once ate at the Carnegie Deli on West 57th Street and Sixth Avenue, and I think I had a strawberry short cake for $3.  On Tuesday evenings, the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 84th Street and Fifth Avenue would serve a prime rib of roast beef dinner with all of the trimmings for $7.  There was a cafeteria on Madison Avenue just south of the Whitney Museum, where a meat loaf dinner with about two vegetables was about $4.  On Madison Avenue on the west side at about 62nd Street was another standard breakfast restaurant for about $2.50 and fifty cent tip.  Fred a few times took us to the Spring Street restaurant in So Ho, where John Michael Barrett ended up working where stuffed Dover Sole was about $7.  His previous place at 59th Street and First Avenue near Ford Modeling at Daly's a blue cheese hamburger with home fries was about $3.  At Third Avenue around 72nd Street there was J.G. Mellons, and just north was Fry's with the same price burger and French fries meal.  On the corner of the F.D.R. Federal Building was P.J. Clark's where a bowl of chili was about $4.  Near the Daily News on Second Avenue and 42nd Street, there was a 24 hour automat, where a good meal was $2 or $3.  There was Pete's Tavern just south of Grammery Park, where a burger and French fries was about $4.  On Second Avenue at about Ninth Street, there was Pearl Bailey's restaurant where a Southern Cooked meal was about $7, and in the West Village near the Hudson River, there was Down on the Farm, where a balanced meal was about $7.  At Commerce and Barrow Street in the West Village, there was the Old Dutch Tavern where two porks chops with candied apple and two vegetables was about $7.  At First Avenue and 53rd Street, there was the Mayfair restaurant, where two pork chops and two vegetables was about $7.  Before I traveled to Oslo, Norway in February 1983, I also met a wealthy Greek named Constatine that had a huge loft on the Hudson River with a kitchen that could feed about fifty people easily.  On East 58th Street, there is also the Town House Bar and the Town House restaurant, which was about $15 for a meal twenty years ago.  I think I once had the basic hamburger meal at Elaine's on Second Avenue around 88th Street for $7.  I once took a friend to eat a basic hamburger meal at Schaff's on Firth Avenue near Rockefeller Center for about $5 apiece.  The last time I visit Manhattan twenty years ago for the Microsoft Conference at the Sheraton Hotel at Broadway and West 54th Street, I brought my own baloney sandwich to eat for lunch.  At the conference, I saw somebody walking around the Sheraton that looked like Wiley Middleton that started General Motors Acceptance Corporation that owned the Sheraton Hotel chain.  Also I once ate with a friend at Cafe Des Artistes at Central Park West and 70th Street, when a meal was about $15.  I also ate at Pizza Duo at Columbus Avenue and 75th Street, when a Deep Dish pizza was about $6.  I also ate pineapple milk shake at Pineapple Joe's at Broadway and west 72nd Street, when it was about a dollar.  There was also a Polish bakery on West 74th Street west of Broadway, where a croissant was about 59 cents.  I once ate at TexArkansas with Julie on West 13th Street near Fifth Avenue, and I ate a steak for about $15.  I saw Senator John Tower there.  On the February after 911, I ate at the Peking restaurant on Park Avenue and about 40th Street, where a complete meal was about $12.  I once ate your basic burger meal for $7 at Paul Allen's at Broadway and West 44th Street.  On East 86th Street, I ate at Old Heidleburg, where a German meal was about $7.  Also nearby was Philadelphia cheese steaks for about $3.  I once with my family to a Christmas Party at the Union League Club, and I went back there around 1974 for a Taft School dinner for about $20.  The all time favorite was Tad's Steak House at Broadway and West 34th Streak where a steak and bake potato with butter was $1.29.  I ate at Churchill's on Third Avenue and about 70th Street, where the basic burger meal was $4.  I recall eating with my family at the Four Seasons on Park Avenue near the Waldorf.  On West 22nd street and Tenth Avenue, there was the Empire Diner opened 24 hours, where breakfast was about $4.  Also in the basement of the Seagrams Building at Park Avenue and 53rd Street was the Brasserie where eggs benedict with French Fries and coffee was about $4.  They were opened 24 hours.  I once ate at the River Club on East 54th Street and the East River with George Cary's parents and his cousin.  I also once ate at Pear Trees at 49th Street and First Avenue, where dinner was about $10.  I ate a number of times at McDonald's on Little West 4th Street on the west side of Washington Square and at McDonald's across the street from the F.D.R. Federal Building at Third Avenue and 54th Street.  I recall when I was younger going to a dinner dance at the Colony Club at Park Avenue and about 66th Street.  I ate a few times at Charlie Brown's at Grand Central Station.  I ate once at T.G.I.F. at First Avenue and 66th Street.  I ate a couple of times at the restaurant on Madison Avenue behind Bloomingdale's.  I ate breakfast a couple of times at the Chopping Block just north of there.  I recall one or twice eating a big baked pretzel from a street vendor at Rockefeller Center.  There was a deli on First Avenue between 58th Street and 59 Street, I got sandwiches at a few times.  There was a bakery at First Avenue and 54th Street, I got a croissant for about 59 cents a few times.  I once saw John Lennon and Yoko Ono there.  I also them at the Fairway Grocery store at Broadway and West 77th Street.  Just north of there, I shopped a number of times at Zabars.  There was an ice cream parlor on Central Park South, where I got ice cream a few times.  Besides Tuesday night roast beef dinners at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I ate at their cafeteria a lot of times in the day time while touring the museum which let me in for free.  At Third Avenue and 59th Street, I also had the basic burger meal at Daly's and Yellow Fingers.  Up Third Avenue at around 70th street, there was a basic burger restaurant that I ate at a couple times called Country Cousin, with the $3 hamburger with French Fries.  Beside the new Citicorp Building at Third Avenue and 52nd Street, a good place to go to the bathroom was the Waldorf Astoria Hotel at Park Avenue, the Plaza Hotel at 59th Street and Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  I had drinks at numerous places in Manhattan too.  I recall once going to the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center for a party.  I recall eating at Mortimers at Madison Avenue and 74th Street a couple of times.  I remember while touring the Central Park Children's Zoo with the white German Shepard, I thought the monkeys were eating better than I was.  I recall eating at Louchows on the South Side of Union Square a couple of times.  I recall eating at Trader Vic's at the Plaza Hotel a couple of time, and I also while at CBS News would have drinks there at the Oak Bar, and I recall having tea there once.  I also recall having coffee and a pastry at the Thomas Watson business school at Columbia Univeristy, and near Columbia University there was a deli, where one could get a sandwich for about two dollars.  There was a A&P grocery store at Second Avenue and 50th street and another one at Eighth Avenue and 19th Street.  There was a Korean fruit and vegetable stand at West 72nd Street and West End Avenue too, but they had expensive dollar apples there too.  Fred Von Mieres had a charge account the Liquor Store at the North Side of the British Consulate at 53rd Street and Third Avenue.  They had cheaper French wine at Surrey Liquors at Madison Avenue and 74th Street near the French Consulate.  Rene Junot and Valbon had good French white table wine.  Somebody once took me to a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown too.  Also just north of 72nd street and third Avenue, there was another Ray's famous pizza for 59 cents a slice.  Near that was a 24 hour fresh bagel shop where a half dozen bagels cost $3.  Also once at Fred Von Mierers' apartment at 420 East 49th Street now the German consulate, he once served a cater beef stroganoff dinner to about a dozen people.  There was an A&P grocery store at Third Avenue and 84th Street.  I think the A&P stores were sold to the Acme grocery store chain.  Also my parents knew Huntington Hartford who owned the A&P food store chain and lived on Beekman Place near Fred Von Mierers at 420 East 49th Street now the German Consulate.  Also in the Chelsea area of Manhattan, there is supposed to be a warehouse with a million pounds of frozen butter, if one needs butter.  Also around west 54th Street and Tenth Avenue, there was the Landmark Tavern, where one could get the basic burger meal.  It was near the CBS Broadcast Center on West 57th Street, so a lot of people from CBS went there.  It was also near the cruise ship docks.  However, a lot of the cruise ship passengers like going to the King Cole room in the basement of the St. Regis Hotel on Fifth Avenue and around East 55th Street.  The King Cole room is very POSH.  POSH stands for Port Out and Starboard Home, for when the British Cruise Ships used to go to India.  I also had dinner at the Williams Club on East 47th Street with Anne Freeman whose father ran the Adlai Stevenson Foundation back in Illinois.  I also ate lunch a few times at the Chase Bank Plaza cafeteria down on Wall Street a few times, when my sisters worked at the law firms of Cravath, Swaine, and Moore and Davis, Polk, and Wardwell.  CIO

I will now go outside again.  CIO

When I was in Laramie, Wyoming once in October around 1979, it was minus 20 degrees below zero Fahrenheit, and the local cowboys were sunning themselves in T shirts out of the winter wind, so some where out in the wood work, there are some colder weather people in this country.  Mark Wheeler whom I went to www.lakeforest.edu with whose father was the president of a Boston Bank possibly the Bank of New England used to work on a ranch in Wyoming in the summer.  Also Lynn Sargent the hockey coach at Taft had a ranch in Wyoming.  Basically sooner or later usually by the first week of December it gets much colder here.

End of Scott's Notes week of 09/10/23

09/10/23 Sunday 6:30 A.M.  The Gateway 11.5 inch laptop with Windows 11 Home activated and updated with Office 2021 activated and with Norton Internet Security 360 activated which has hardly ever been used with a full charge on its battery has been backed up with a Windows Complete PC backup to an external hard drive.  I went outside, and I drank a brewed coffee.  When on  the only time I visited Bermuda in April 1968, I visited with three Taft Classmates for Spring Break.  One was Myles McGough from Katonah, New York, and another was Hunt Collins from Louisville, Kentucky, and the third was Mac Whiteman from Memphis, Tennessee.  We found out about the Glendon Guest House James Paul Warburg Junior who was a friend at the Middlesex Boy's School in Concorde, Massachusetts.   Of his four classmates that visited Bermuda with us, I can only remember one name which is Joe Romineer from Long Island who was the son of a politician that always lost.  We rented Mopeds there.  I bought four wool sweaters for $20 each from Triminghams.  I flew there  on B.O.A.C. or British Overseas Aircraft Corporation.  I returned on Pan American Airways.  At the time, my family was living in Wellesley, Massachusetts.  While at Taft, we were given Bermuda driver's licenses and Bermuda draft cards blank for under age drinking in Port Chester, New York and Manhattan.  John McGrath sold them to us for $5 each, but he was big football player type.  While in Bermuda, we threw a high tea party every day at the Glendon Guest House, and friends of my sister's were also there.  I brought my golf clubs, but never played golf.  I met Waddie Watson III from Buffalo, who seemed prosperous always trying to get me to play golf at the St. George's golf club in Bermuda.  When the Middlesex students left, we stayed there with four students from the University of North Carolina.  The girls on Spring Break back then would let us eat there diners at the Elbow Beach Hotel, where they stayed.  One had to wear a sports jacket and tie to dinner.  I did not explore much of the Island except Hamilton and the Elbow Beach Hotel area.  As far as I know all of my computer maintenance is done.  I also have three Chromebooks that don't need any maintenance.

I will now go downtown and forage around on Greenwich Avenue, but first I will end out my weekly notes.  CIO

!!!!!! 09/10/23 Sunday 5:05 A.M.  Looks like Hurricane Lee might still be headed for Bermuda https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/024833.shtml?cone#contents and maybe points North like the United Kingdom.  One of the last times I visited Newport, Rhode Island; I met Dan Bladen who worked for White Weld and Company, and he had us on his nice sailboat in the harbor at Newport, which he used to win the Newport to Bermuda sailing race, so he probably knows something about Bermuda.  My stepfather's brother who had one of seven houses including one in Greenwich, used to have a house in Bermuda and belonged to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club.  When I first met Fred Von Mierers in October 1973, he was designing a beach cabana for Nelson Rockefeller in Bermuda.  Vivian West out at Plandome Manor, Long Island used to talk about Bermuda like she was familiar with it.  The second largest reinsurance company in the World is based in Bermuda.  Jimmy Goslee who use to live on Charles Street in Greenwich Village and owned the Florist that supplied the Metropolitan Museum of Art with the Wallace Family of Reader's Digest flower donation had a big greenhouse in Delaware, and his family started the first company in Bermuda.  A friend of my family from Muskegon, Michigan had a sister who was the United States consulate to Bermuda for a very long time.  When I was in Bermuda in April 1968, I met the daughter of C. Douglas Dillion the former Treasury Secretary.  My mother and stepfather spent the Winter of 1980 in Bermuda.  I once bought a picture of Hamilton Harbor for $15 from the Old Greenwich Thrift Shop from a lady working there from Bermuda.  When I first moved into my current building there was an older couple living here from Bermuda.  They had worked at the Greenwich Country Club.  My former brother in law has an older sister with a house in Bermuda.  Stewart Mott had a house in Bermuda.  Michael Bloomberg also has a house in Bermuda.  One of Queen Victoria's daughter's married a wealthy Canadian and spent the Winter in Bermuda, because it was a bit cold up in Canada.  Bermuda still has a law suit with the state of Texas for calling Texas Red Onions, Bermuda Red Onions.  That is about all I know about Bermuda.  A Taft Classmate that looked like me who was Bedford, New York whose grandmother had the biggest house out on Nantucket was named Tommy Tucker, and he might be related to the people that started Tucker Town in Bermuda.  They also drive on the left side of the road in Bermuda.  The nice hotel there on the beach is the Elbow Beach Hotel on the East side of the Island.

I went outside again.  CIO

09/10/23 Sunday 4:15 A.M.  On the Gateway 11.5 inch laptop with Windows 11 and Office 365 that I bought from Wal-Mart a little over a year ago for $118 and never used, since Office 365 expires on it after a year, I installed Office 2021 with the spare product key that I bought last night.  Basically I still had to activate it by telephone which I did with my cell phone.  When one activates it by cell phone, they send one the activation numbers by text message, which is easier to install, so now Office 2021 is activated on it.  I am now installing the Windows 11 updates on it.  I will then do a Windows Complete PC backup of it to an external hard drive.  The battery still holds a full charge.  One has to plug in the charger on the left side, not the right side which has a similar size hole.

I went outside twice, and one of those times, I drank a brewed coffee.  CIO

09/09/23 Saturday 1:20 A.M.  On the Dell Optiplex 790 SFF desktop computer that I got today, I put in a 240 GB SSD drive in it.  I set it up on the left side of the primary work computer setup on top of the other similar Dell.  I put a new Lenovo wireless keyboard and wireless mouse on it, a new Microsoft web cam, and a new headset.  I restored the Aomei backup of the similar Dell on the bedroom desk with the Linux Aomei restore CD.  I bought https://royalcdkeys.com/collections/operating-system/products/windows-11-pro-oem-cd-key and https://royalcdkeys.com/collections/business-office/products/microsoft-office-2021-pro-plus-key-phone-retail-global for $6.81 total.  I had to use the Windows 11 product key to activate Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus, and then used the product key activation method to keep the expiring warning from coming up.  I did not need to use the product key for Office 2021, since it activated online without any problems.  I also have Norton 360 Internet Security installed and activated on it.  I also have it connected to the Dell Laser printer.  As far as I can tell, it works just fine.  I made an Aomei backup of it to an external hard drive.  I went outside twice, and once I drank a brewed coffee.  At this point after four to five months of computer systems maintenance mostly with the Windows 12 beta Canary operating system, I do not have much to do anymore, but regular routine work.  I will now go outside again and drink a brewed coffee.

About Hurricane Lee Tracking https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at3+shtml/025414.shtml?cone#contents .  Back in the old days Bob Lee down South was supposed to be my hurricane connection.  He was a medical doctor that had gone to www.usma.edu and he was well connected in Greenwich and volunteered at the Mews Thrift shop with some very prominent local volunteers.  However, in my search on the internet, it says he passed away in Houston, Texas about five years ago.  From the early days before high tech down south, there was conventional wisdom that if the Pelicans disappeared in Key West or the Flamingos disappeared in Biscayne Bay in Miami, there was going to be a big bad tropical storm coming or hurricane.  Since the birds are outside all of the time, they are more sensitive to changes in the weather.  So if one does not have high tech watch your birds.  Since hurricanes frequently run up the Atlantic Coast, it might be better if one had wheels to drive into the heart land of the Midwest of America, where not too much happens, but it gets very cold in the winter.  I was once told that Jimmy Buffet was not from Key West, but from Montana, he just got down there first before anyone else.  Even Ernest Hemingway had a place in Sun Valley, Idaho, the railroad ski resort that the Harriman Railroad family started a long time ago.  It is also very cold there in the winter, unlike Greenwich, Connecticut on Long Island Sound which is on the Edge of Tropics, but it can get very cold here in the winter for two or three months.

09/08/23 Friday 12:30 A.M.  I made my first www.geico.com auto insurance payment on the policy starting October 8, 2023.  It was $205.05.  They yearly rate with the umbrella policy is about $1850.  In November, December, and January, I will have to make three more payments of about $205 for the policy that ends April 8, 2024.  Considering I do not drive very much that is a lot of money for a 18 year old car that only drove about 1467 miles in the last 12 months.  Basically the policy went up about $400 this year.

09/07/23 Thursday 1:15 A.M.  On the older refurbished Ipad Mini, I was able to put an older version of Gmail on it.  This Ipad Mini case with keyboard for $20 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RWRVTST?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details is what I am using with it.  It all works just fine.  A new Ipad Mini is now $500 https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-ipad/ipad-mini which is way to expensive for my disability budget, plus with all of my computer equipment is just another backup to the backup.  Still it is a learning experience configuring it.  This in silver 32 GB https://www.itechdeals.com/products/apple-ipad-mini-2-with-retina-display-wi-fi-16gb-space-gray-2nd-generation-3?sscid=81k7_jl86h&utm_source=shareasale&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=1189165&variant=40765380526177 for $59.99 is the refurbished model I setup and with the $20 case and keyboard, I have about $80 and a bit of time invested in it.  Since it is a smaller screen, an older person probably needs these https://www.amazon.com/Mighty-Sight-Magnifying-Glasses-Travel/dp/B0843HFPLC/ref=asc_df_B0843HFPLC/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=563758539284&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=3733487686589262678&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9003435&hvtargid=pla-919369445203&th=1 magnifying glasses for $20 which would make it a $100 investment which by today's current apple prices saves a bit of money.  I have not been to the Apple store on Greenwich Avenue in about three of four months, since they find me despite all of my cheap skills that I am a nuisance.

I will now go outside again to see if there any lost ice skaters around.  In Greenwich Village I once met two professional ice skaters named Franky and Johnny's, and they took me for a ride on the Staten Island Ferry to see a little bit more of New York.  I think the first time I might have ventured to State Island was when I drove down from Boston to look at a used Mercedes 300 B for about $400 that I read about in the classified adds of the New York Times which used to advertise a lot of old cars.  At www.lakeforest.edu I used to read the classified ads of the Chicago Tribune looking for old Mercedes too.  I lived in a small room at the St. Clare residence on West 9th Street for $35 a week, when I worked at the broadcast center of CBS on West 57th Street for $85 a week before taxes.  The Ninth Circle pub just west on West 9th Street was where a lot of the younger CBS people hung out.  I did meet to waiters at Daly's at 59th Street and First Avenue that had also worked for CBS.  They introduced me to Ernest Hemingway's nephew from Switzerland.  Also they lived in a small carriage house apartment on Minetta Place in Greenwich Village where both Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner had once lived as younger writers.  A friend also had a studio apartment on East 13th Street just east of the Forbes building and across the street from Fairchild Publications and Asti's Italian opera restaurant.  That is near Grace Episcopal Church at 13th Street and University Place which is one of the wealthiest churches in New York City which owns a lot of property in Greenwich Village.  Eleanor Roosevelt once lived in the apartment on the West side of Washington Square which was owned by that church, so they made their rent checks out to the church as a tax deduction.  My oldest half sister who was a doctor in the World Health Organization for fifty years owned an apartment on Washington Square, when she went to medical school at New York University too.  CIO

09/07/23 Thursday 12:05 A.M.  On the Ipad Mini, I charged up its Bluetooth keyboard today.  I just now turned on the Ipad Mini, and then I turned on the Bluetooth keyboard, and I enabled it in the Ipad Mini Bluetooth settings.  It works just fine.  I put Google Doc and Microsoft Ipad Word on it.  The other free word processors do not work with IOS 12.

I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  Midnight Mike is about to be on full power.  In the old days in the west Greenwich Village, the students did not show up at the few local student pubs until 11 P.M..  I guess that was when the www.nyu.edu Bopst Library closed for the evening.  A lot of the NYU students had part time jobs at the American Express Credit Card processing office at Astor Place, so they were able to track rich people in their travels around the World.  Of course on the weekends, there was the Bridge and Tunnel Crowd from around New York City enjoying the local ambience of the old village look.  CIO

09/05/23 Tuesday 6:15 A.M.  The internet televisions were not working.  I tried replacing the 8 port Netgear Netswitch with a new one, and that did not fix the problem.  I then turned off the Cable Modem and turned it back on, and I turned off and on the three wireless routers, and that fixed the internet television problem.  I moved the older 8 port Netgear Netswitch to the bedroom desk, so the Mac Mini and the Dell Latitude E 6410 are now connected to the internet with spare LAN ports to use.  I ordered a spare Netgear 8 port Netswitch https://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-8-Port-Gigabit-Ethernet-Unmanaged/dp/B00KFD0SYK/ref=sr_1_10?crid=1KIH7N80SJ0DY&keywords=netgear+network+switch+8+port&qid=1693907970&sprefix=Netgear+Net%2Caps%2C213&sr=8-10 for $24.98 and $1.59 tax for $26.57 total.

I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  My old friend Tony Renato Pigato from Sao Paulo, Brazil that owns twenty million acres of coffee plantation in Brazil used to drink over a dozen cups of coffee a day.  He was part of the Brazilian Tourist authority before he retired when Covid 19 broke out.  I guess it is not a very profitable business, because he told me a few years ago, he had bought a www.ford.com Escort, but he did have an introduction to the Aga Khan when he was here around 1987, and he was riding around in the Aga Khan's Rolls Royce on Central Park West, which is one of many places the Aga Khan has around the world.  Since the Aga Khan is also a Swiss Citizen, he might have part ownership in Nestle the World's Largest Food Company that also owns the World's Most Popular coffee brand Nescafe and also has the distribution rights for the line of www.starbucks.com products.  The Aga Khan's family have had a home in Greenwich since World War One, and his grandfather was the World's Wealthiest Person, so he might know other people with money.  His roommate at www.harvard.edu was Adlai Stevenson Junior from Libertyville, Illinois, where the Hong Kong Shanghai Bank Corporation used to have their American headquarters.  Also my mother's neighbor in Florida used to be Sir John Bond, the chairman of the HSBC Bank.  CIO

09/04/23 Monday 5:30 A.M.  I finished working with the Acer Aspire R12 laptop.  I put it on top of the Brother Laser Printer on the stainless steel cart in front of the left living room closet.  I have never used it very much.  Its battery holds a full charge.  I did put in a 120 GB SSD drive in it.  On the first partition I have Windows 11 activated with Office 2019 activated.  On the second partition I have Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus activated with the expiration fix installed.  I also have www.openoffice.org installed.  It is about a 11.5 inch screen, but it is relatively light to travel with.

I found this about how to install Netflix and on older Ipad 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBQY_9D_e-g .  I guess the same would work with Amazon Prime Video.

I got out the Acer Laptop, and it has Windows 11 with Office 2019 on it and on a second partition the Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus, which I will fix shortly with the fix for expiration.

09/03/23 Sunday 11:55 P.M.  The Apple Ipad 3 is all setup.  I put it on the stainless steel cart in front of the left living closet on the wireless keyboard there.  Since it is an older Ipad, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video do not work on it.  However, Amazon Music and Pandora do work on it along with all of the other apps like Kindle.  Thus I have three Ipad 2 tablets, and the new Ipad 3 tablet, and the Ipad Mini coming in a few days.

I also moved the second shelf the stainless steel cart the new Android table that works with all of the mentioned apps.

09/03/23 Sunday 6:45 A.M.  I installed the Windows 12 beta expiration fix on the Lenovo Mini on the primary work computer, the HP Desktop on the living room desk on the right side of the primary work computer, and the Dell Optiplex 790 desktop on the left side of the primary work computer.  As far as I know the only two beta computers that I have without the beta fix are the Dell Latitude E 6400 and E 6410 on the bedroom desk, and they do not have Windows 11 product keys, so it does not matter.  If they do not work on September 15, 2023, when the Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus expires, I can always restore the Windows 10 backups to them.

I will now go outside and drink a cup of tea with Splenda sweetener and lemon juice.  Tea time in England is 4 P.M., which is about 9 P.M. here.  I have never been in England or the United Kingdom, but I know a few people with connections, particularly since Fred Von Mierer's apartment in the early 1970s was at 420 East 49th Street now the German consulate, but I would walk by the British consulate on Third Avenue on the East Side south of 53rd Street.  Fred also had a charge account at the liquor store on the north side of the British consulate.  All I know about his British connections was he knew Sarah Churchill who was Winston Churchill's grand daughter who volunteered at a soup kitchen in Manhattan.  He also had attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace with Helen Kress Williams where he met Mick Jaeger.  He also was taking over Billy Baldwin's interior decorating business, and Billy Baldwin over the doorway to his small studio on East 60th Street had an old wooden coat of arms that said, "Dieu et Mon Droit." which is the motto of the British Royal family.  Billy Baldwin looked a bit like the Duke of Windsor and knew the Duke of Windsor.  On the block on East 49th Street there were also parked in diplomatic parking places two Royal Blue Daimler limousines that never seemed to move.  I just kept busy doing a few chores here and out in Greenwich and walking a lot around New York City.

I will now go outside again.  CIO

09/03/23 Sunday 5:10 A.M.  I installed the Windows 12 beta  expiration fix on the 17.3 inch HP laptop on the right side of the oak table.  On the far end of the oak dining table, I installed the Windows 12 beta expiration fix on all seven  Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus computers.  I had a problem with the four desktop computer in that their displays were not working, but I fixed that by plugging the VGA to HDMI adapter into another plug on the power strip.

I went outside once and drank a brewed coffee.

!!!!!! 09/01/23 Friday 11:45 P.M.  I found this about Windows 11 expiring https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=JLz-Om1Wsmo .

That method worked to get rid of the Windows 12 Canary Beta Rufus expiring error message.

09/01/23 Friday 11:15 P.M.  On the Dell Optiplex 790 SFF on the right side of the primary work computer, it is saying that the Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus installation will expire on September 15, 2023; although I have it activated with a Windows 11 product key.  Thus I do not know if all of my beta machines will work or not on September 15, 2023.  I made the most recent USB pen drive of Windows 12 beta Canary Rufus, but it will not upgrade the system to a more recent installation.  It will only do a new install, which I do not want to do at this point.  The most recent beta though is available in multiple languages.

This is how to install the beta on an older machine:  On Beta Testing the newest Windows betas on older machines, one can try this an created a Windows 11 beta Rufus for older machines with this method by downloading the latest Windows 11 beta 25300 https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso?rfs=1 , and I used this procedure for Windows 11 on an older PC, Windows 11 Rufus installed from USB Pen Drive  I made a Windows 11 Rufus USB pen drive with this method this https://rufus.ie/en/ to created a Windows 11 bootable USB pen drive for it to upgrade https://www.elevenforum.com/t/create-bootable-windows-11-iso-without-tpm-secure-boot-and-ram-requirements.1891/ I formatted the over 8 GB USB pen drive in NTFS, and I set Rufus to "MBR" selected and the second and third advanced options selected, also select options no TPM/no Secure boot. I went outside.  CIO

09/01/23 Friday 9:35 P.M.  I moved the Dell Optiplex 790 SFF desktop from the left side of the primary work computer to the right side on top of the HP desktop on the living room desk.  I also installed the Xerox color laser printer on it.  It works just fine.

I will now go outside again.  CIO
