07/30/23 Sunday 3:25 A.M. Not much happening in the extreme southwest corner of the third smallest state in the nation from my view point. We generally spend the summer months getting ready for the colder weather to come. However, we some times have a longer fall with moderate temperatures. I usually do not disconnect my expensive air conditioners until the third week of October. However, some times we get very cold weather in the first week of December.

I have a relative that lives near Boston, so that is probably my furthest north relative and her husband is from Minnesota which gets Polar Vortexes, so they probably know how to deal with the colder weather in Boston.
I once met somebody from Minnesota that lived above the bakery in Irvington, New York; which had a bit of extra heat. When I met him, I told him on one cold night in White Plains, New York, I was from Frost Bite Falls, Minnesota. He was not familiar with the cartoon series, "Rocky and His Friends." When I worked at the Le Languedoc restaurant out on Nantucket, most of the waiters in the summer were from the Stowe, Vermont ski patrol, where it can be minus 40 degrees below zero Fahrenheit on top of the mountain. Another cold weather friend is older, and recently he has been looking at real estate on the internet in Florida which doubled in price in a year. The Sons of Oslo moved out of Byram, Connecticut to a new lodge in North Salem, New York by the Hardscrabble Road exit on Interstate I-684. I think it just northwest of that exit. We have Norwegians in the area, and they do not seem to mind the warmer winters here. www.dartmouth.edu used to have the www.army.mil extreme cold weather institute. Most people in Hanover, New Hampshire and areas around there have to work two jobs, and the second job is just to pay for their utility bills in the winter. Also cold weather people expect to be paid for the work they do in the winter, when the sun birds run south. Scott U.S.A. used to be headquartered in Sun Valley, Idaho; which can be real cold with nasty Mountain Lions around.

07/30/23 Sunday 1:00 A.M. I watched a program on Newsmax about Elon Musk. I went outside again.

When Mount St. Helens https://www.usgs.gov/observatories/cvo erupted on May 8, 1980, the net effect in Manhattan, when I was living around 315 West 74th Street a few blocks west of the Natural History Museum is around February 1982, when I had to move out at the last moment it was a very cold winter with the global cooling from Mount St. Helen's eruption https://www.extremeweatherwatch.com/cities/new-york/year-1982#january , but with the wind chill out of the Northwest then, it was supposed to be a wind chill factor of minus 26 degrees Fahrenheit below zero. I stayed with Bobby Fink above a small church on East 52nd Street for a week, before he had to leave for St. Barth's. With my last $100, I flew down to Key West; and showed up homeless without money again down there. There were so many people down there with the cold weather up north, I sort of got lost in the shuffle. I stayed briefly with a cheese man from Wisconsin, a Military Policeman from Costa Rica, somebody that looked like Prince Andrew from Canada, and somebody that lived in a small hut, a Navy medic from New Haven that knew Lowell Weicker, and two men in a trailer that looked like Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and then I was left on the beach next to the Casa Marina Hotel chatting with a young boy that looked like John James Audubon, and the following morning a Key West Policeman arrested me for being a Nazi, although I am half Dutch, and it took three months of government confusion to get me back up to Connecticut, and when I was released, I went out to Vivian West's at 21 Circle Drive in Plandome Manor, Long Island, and I was paid $8,000 for building the garage apartment for ten months working twelve hours a day mostly at night. Vivian's mother had been part of the Kaiser of Germany's consulate to Manhattan before World War One, and her daughter I lived with in Manhattan was Cyrus Vance's head of word processing in his law firm after he was secretary of state, and her ex son in law was a software engineer with the State Department in Libya, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia. I did not know at the time that my classmate from www.lakeforest.edu was living in Sand's Point at W. Averill Harriman's sister's garage apartment. She was my friend's aunt. There are a lot of people out on Long Island, but I did not make any new friends, I was so busy working. Vivian West was a neighbor of Mr. Grumman of Grumman aircraft, when they were making New York City buses back then.

I then went downtown to www.cvs.com on Greenwich Avenue, and I got a $10 roll of quarters. I then sat out in the Junior Chamber of Commerce Park for a long time. I used the bathroom at the CFCF coffee. I then went back into CVS, and I bought a desk fan for $29.99 less a $6 off $30 coupon that I got in the mail and $1.52 tax for $25.51 total. I then went to the Stop and Shop at 161 West Putnam Avenue, and I bought three 8 ounce Stop and Shop shredded mozzarella cheese for $1.99 each for $5.91 total. I then returned home. I put away the groceries. I went outside, and I drank a brewed coffee. I left the fan in the box on the floor by the sweater closet in the hallway to have in reserve in case one of my desk fans break. I filed this report. I will now go outside again. CIO

07/28/23 Friday 3:45 P.M. I drove down Green Witch Avenue, but there were no parking places. I then went to the Stop and Shop at 161 West Putnam Avenue. I bought six 20 ounce cans of Stop and Shop pineapple chunks with juice for $1.69 a can, a six pack of Stop and Shop English muffins for $2.99, a family 12 pack of Jimmy Dean sausage, egg, and cheese croissants for $16.99, a six ounce bag of baby spinach for $2.50 and a Bermuda red onion for .71 for $33.33 total. I then returned home. I put away my groceries. I put the grey bag back in the car. I drank a brewed coffee outside.
I once saw Canterbury, Connecticut, and it did not look like it had changed in a hundred years. Also when I saw Summerville, South Carolina, it also looked like it had not changed in a hundred years. People use to go to Summerville, South Carolina for tuberculosis cure from all of the pine trees in the area. Elizabeth Arden also used to live in Summerville, South Carolina.

In Port Washington, Long Island, I lived with the Boltons on Bar Beach Road which is the road to the beach there, but I never went to the beach there. Out on Long Island it is at least six times busier than Fairfield County, Connecticut; so there is a heck of a lot of automobile traffic out there. In Manhasset, they do have the Miracle Mile on Northern Boulevard for expensive shopping. I once visited Sagamore Hill and Planting Field Arboretum the old French Consulate and the Frick mansion which was a rehab place next to the Russian consulate in Glencoe and South Hampton and Jones Beach. Manhasset, Long Island has one of the oldest Dutch Churches in the New York area. CIO
07/25/23 Tuesday 1:45 P.M. I afforded the second trip to California by building a basement playroom for $400 for a sister elsewhere during Three Mile Island nearby. That is where I learned about the Muppets whose creator used to live on Steamboat Road here in Greenwich. I recall making a third trip to California with John Bolton. I recall working in April around 1979 in Nantucket, and then we left and drove out West in the summer on Interstate 70 West through the Rockies, but maybe we cut back and drove up to Laramie, Wyoming and through the Sierra Nevadas and returned to Daytona and back to Port Washington. I recall driving through Reno, and in Truckee, California there was six inches of snow in August. Maybe I made a sixth trip to California with John that I can not recall. I was in Wyoming once in October when it was minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but when we camped out for a night in the Rockies it was summer. Once one starts driving it is only six days across country. The $150 used yellow Subaru from Nantucket had a Polaroid sticker on its mirror, and it had been in Dillon, Colorado where on the first return trip through the Rockies in a blizzard, I found two used Continental snow tires with studs in the Sears tire dump that the Vail Amaco station put on for $2.50 apiece. At www.lakeforest.edu , I knew Jan Gates from Denver whose family owned Gates Tires and Rubber which also made fan belts. I saw a lot of their products in traveling around America. CIO

On all of the new attention on Las Alamos in the new movie, I recall on my second trip to California by myself, I was driving west on Interstate 10, and I decided to go to San Francisco, and I looked at my Rand McNally map that I had bought at a Firestone tire store. I noticed a short cut on Route 666 which was a dark two lane road at night. I picked up a hitch hiker with a surfer type look, and we chatted on the drive, and I dropped him off at Berkeley, California. According to Google maps, where I picked up the hitch hiker was near Las Alamos, and there is also a British Aerodrome there too, so the British were also doing something out there. On the west coast I hung around Jimmy Eldert's friends in Santa Cruz, California. I also drove north as far as Fort Bragg a half day drive north of San Francisco. I hung out around the Pan Am VIP lounge at San Francisco airport, and I saw the head of the CIA Admiral Stanfield Turner. I read the guest book of the new first flight of Pan Am to Shanghai, and Mrs. Honeywell from Wellesley, Massachusetts name was on the guest book, and I knew Honeywell made the computers for NORAD, so I worried that the Chinese might reverse engineer the NORAD command system. I gave Jimmy four passwords for some sort of the computer system, which passwords that I can not remember. Somebody told me I better get back east, so I drove down the inland highway to Interstate 10 East. Around Las Alamos, I picked up two hitch hikers from my current home Byram in Greenwich. I was arrested for a night for not paying for $10 in gasoline where the first Standard Oil well was in Texas. I then drove to San Antonio, and I looked at the Alamo. I then drove into Kelly Air Force base which was on alert for the Iran Hostage rescue mission. I then drove down to Key West and around and back up to Port Washington, Long Island; where John Bolton's father Peter Bolton lived near the Port Washington police station. He was a software engineer in the State Department. I recall being there that winter with a number of trips to New Canaan to visit my mother and step father. I guess I was a Road Warrior. I recall putting new brake drums on the Subaru while there. There also was an Exxon station nearby, and A&P store, and a dairy store. We watched a bit of black and white television with rabbit ears. I saw Admiral Stanfield Turner at the Sheraton Hotel after the first Reagan inaugural. He was from Highland Park, Illinois. The Admiral of the Sixth Fleet, when I lived in Italy, and he died out in Seattle. Thus I have only been as far North on the West Coast as far as Fort Bragg. I also recall touring Stamford University a couple of times, but I can not recall which trips.

He had me at his house, and he had a baby lion cub. He told me he had just made a movie which was "Jaws". He told me he had worked at the Cambridge, Massachusetts Y.M.C.A. with James Paul Warburg Junior from Greenwich, so when one leaves Greenwich, one meets other people with Greenwich connections. CIO

At Zen Stationary, I bought an Ace's High scratch card for a dollar, and I lost as usual to the Bank of Bombay. I sat out some more at the Senior and the Arts Center. I found a set of keys, and I gave them to the desk at the Senior and the Arts Center. I then went to www.cvs.com on Greenwich Avenue. I toured the store. I sat out in the Junior Chamber of Commerce Park. I then went to the Stop and Shop at 161 West Putnam Avenue. I bought a six ounce bag of baby spinach for $3.29, two 15 ounce Ken's Balsamic and Vinaigrette salad dressing for $2.99 each, four 8 ounce Oikos sugar free orange yogurt for a dollar each, a six pack of Stop and Shop English muffins for $2.99 and from the clearance section a box of mini croissants for $2.99 for $19.25 total. I then returned home. I put away my groceries. I went outside, and I put the grey bag back in the car. I drank a brewed coffee outside. I chatted with a friend. I filed this report. 07/25/23 Tuesday 5:00 A.M. On my second to the last trip to California in July 1980, I flew from Westchester Airport to John Wayne Airport in Newport Beach, California. They would not rent me a car, since I did not have a credit card. They did give me a limousine ride from the airport to the Coast Inn in Laguna Beach though. I did fly up to San Francisco once or twice and back. I also flew to Hawaii and then to the Hyatt Hotel in Maui for a week's rest during a hurricane in Houston. I had been on the tennis court at the River Club in Kennebunkport with the Bush family after he got the republican vice presidential nomination, so I figured I would put a lot of distance between me. At the Hyatt Hotel I paid my hotel bill with a one ounce gold coin. I also stopped by Santa Cruz, California to see Jimmy Eldert. That night when he was working as a disk jockey with an open microphone at the Catholic Church radio station in Santa Cruz broadcasting to Fort Ord, I gave him one and a half ounces of gold to aid the poor republicans in California. They reason I was using gold at the time instead of American Express travelers checks, every airport I went through had a Dek Perra gold exchange. From June 1980 to August 1980, gold went from $225 an ounce to $825 an ounce. I thought when I was robbed in Port Washington, that somebody had might followed me back from California, even now California Ebay advertises gold coins all of the time. My stepfather's father supposedly was the president of Newmont Gold Mining, and I had studied gold in economics at www.lakeforest.edu when a friend's father James Warburg had a falling out with Roosevelt, when he was under secretary of the treasury under Andrew Mellon over the gold standard. At Lake Forest College, gold was only $32 an ounce, and even in Florence, Italy in the winter of 1972, they sold gold on Ponte Vechio for $32 an ounce, but nobody was interested in it. Also down in Key West, the people that John Bolton and I were around in the winter of 1978 found a billion dollars of Spanish Gold in the treasure of the Atocha.
I have a theory that since Ghost Motorcycle in Manhasset, Long Island was owned by somebody from Fairchild Semiconductor which is also at the Portland, Maine airport that the five ounce Swiss Credit bar that was stolen might have had a tracking device in it. The old Volvo that I had bought that day at John Delia Subaru in Greenwich probably did not have a tracking device on it, but with Greenwich who knows. How could I afford the gold was fairly simple. Where John and I were house sitting in New Canaan in the winter of 1980 when we did not have any money during the famous ice storm, I was driving to Greenwich Village every night to the pub Uncle Charlie's near Ronald Reagan's son's apartment where all of his friend hung out. One day John told me he was looking for a bar of soap in the upstairs closet, and he found an old coin collection. I looked at it. Most it was in little grey envelopes were over ninety percent gone. There just some fifty cent Kennedy half dollars and old pennies. The Kennedy half dollars were worth about $5, and I went to Sam Sloat's in Westport to exchange them for cash. Later on it turned out the old pennies were not pennies although they looked like that, but were one dollar gold coins worth $225 apiece which helped finance the lost gold and the last two trips to California. Alas Ronald Reagan did win, and I saw him at the Waldorf Astoria after the election, and I went to inaugural, but when I flew down to Washington D.C. two months later, and I flew back with Ed Messe the new attorney general, he told me it was too dangerous in the Greenwich Village and Chelsea areas of Manhattan, where there is a lot of Italian Mafia, so a year later I moved out of Manhattan. I did once cash a $20 American Express traveler's check at Uncle Charlie's on Greenwich Street in Greenwich Village, so they knew my address in New Canaan next to the New Canaan police station. All I can figure out is that Jimmy Carter's group of people were trying to stop the republicans from winning.

07/25/23 Tuesday 2:55 A.M. I rested until midnight. I went outside, and I drank a brewed coffee. I then rested until 2 A.M.. I then went outside again.
One of my connections with Key West was I first drove down there from Fort Lauderdale on Halloween in 1976 with Brian Hibbs from Cheshire, Connecticut. The whole town was boarded up, and the Monster Disco was opened with Rotten Robbie's piano bar. We returned to Fort Lauderdale after a day. During the first part of 1977, when my car was towed for too many parking tickets at the Swimming Hall of fame, I took a Greyhound Bus down to Key West without my car. I recall hitchhiking back and forth to Fort Lauderdale a couple of times, but I was basically homeless in Key West. Around the first of February 1977, Jimmy Eldert showed up from the University of New Hampshire after a State Department tour of Russia. I was still sleeping outside, but after a month or so, Jimmy put me up with him in trailer next to the Boca Chica Navy base ground to air missiles. Jimmy knew Chris Ray who was the contractor on the initial renovation of the Case Marina Hotel. I was around that area a lot, so I would hire people to work on the project for five dollars an hour. I only weighed 125 pounds after starving in Florida since the third week of September in 1976, when I arrived in Fort Lauderdale. I left Florida around the middle of April 1977 with Jimmy Eldert, when I got six month of unemployment checks. We visited Hurley Haywood in Jacksonville, and then I gave Jimmy $400 to fly up North, and I drove back North to Greenwich and then to the University of New Hampshire and Nantucket with side trips to Dartmouth College and Stowe, Vermont. That winter, when I quit my dishwashing job at Le Vielle Maison in Boca Raton, and I flew to Nassau in the Bahamas for a few days, when I returned to Fort Lauderdale in February 1978, and I hitchhiked back down to Key West. Jimmy Eldert was there, and I met John Bolton from Manhasset, Long Island, and he told me he was the architect on the Casa Marina project. He had the key to the hotel, so we stayed there at night with 200 stray Hemingway six toed cats, when the construction people were not there. We remained there until around the first of May 1978, with a four day side trip on the Appilation trail. Back in the winter of 1979, when John and I were living with his sister in Daytona, we returned to Key West for a day. Back in August 1980, John and I drove down to Key West, but we kept on going across country to California on my last trip across country. When I returned to Key West in February 1982 when it was minus 26 degrees below zero Fahrenheit in Manhattan, the Casa Marina Hotel project was all completed, and it looked quite deluxe. After a week there, I was arrested because of a false computer report on me. All I can figure out in August 1980, my United States passport, Connecticut driver's license, and eight ounces of gold, and $200 in cash were stolen from me when it was in my Jansport back pack in the used Volvo that I drove to California. American Express told me my passport was being used in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I was at John's father's house in Port Washington, Long Island, when I saw four blond boys on motorcycles with Connecticut plates behind my car, and when I got back to New Canaan, the back pack was gone. Thus I have not been back to Key West, since the winter of 1982.

I then went to the Acme grocery store at 160 West Putnam Avenue, and I bought a five gallon bottle of Primo Vermont Spring water for $7.49 total with bottle return. I then returned home. I used my little folding cart to bring up the 42 pound bottle of water. I then brought up the soda. I then put the folding cart back in the car. I drank a brewed coffee outside. I filed this report. I used the bathroom at the CFCF coffee shop. I then went to the Stop and Shop at 161 West Putnam Avenue. I bought a 6 ounce bag of baby spinach leaves for $3.29, a Bermuda red onion for .94, two six packs of Stop and Shop English muffins for $1.99 each six pack, four 8 ounce Oikos sugar free chocolate yogurts for a $1 each, two 8 ounce Kraft shredded mozzarella cheese for $3 each, and from the clearance section a box of baby croissants for $2.50 for $25.37 total. I then returned home. I put my groceries. I put the grey bag back in the car. I drank a brewed coffee outside. In the email from www.mavis.com they said I am supposed to retighten my lug nuts after 25 miles, so I went there, and they quickly retightened them. They told me they had six cars there with broken tires from the asphalt removal work on Putnam Avenue. They still have not repaved it yet. I drove around the work area this morning. They paved the road in front of the Greenwich Town Hall, but they still have to put the stripes in. They are also removing the old asphalt on the Post Road in front of the Greenwich Library, so there are still traffic problems downtown. I paid off the charge for my new tires and alignment. When I came off www.nantucket.net in December 1983, on Christmas Eve 1983, I ate a turkey croissant at Rue De Croissant, and I saw Cliff Robertson and Dina Merrill there. I then went to Manhattan, and I walked around a deserted Greenwich Village, and I met a house guest of Harry Helmsley who was from Denmark. He called up Harry every hour from a pay phone to tell him what was happening. I recall going to Manhattan on previous nights, and I met somebody from Midland, Texas that owned a French restaurant. I also met a Doctor from the www.un.org who was with his twin sons. He told me he was spending Christmas Day with Happy Rockefeller. I then did not travel to Manhattan for a few years, until I got a car. Thus when one comes off Nantucket, one sees a small group of people like the way it is in the off season on Nantucket. On the flight out from Hyannis, I saw Teddy Kennedy in the airport around 6 A.M., and Jackie Onassis was on my flight at 11 A.M. to LaGuardia airport. I recall taking the train to Toronto for about a week, and then two weeks walking around Manhattan in circles, until the Greenwich Hospital gave me a complete physical which determined I was legally disabled, and my social worker got me a small attic apartment 100 Milbank Avenue, where I lived for four months, and then I spend two months in a room at the northwest corner of Grigg Street and Greenwich Avenue, and then 4.5 years at 700 Steamboat Road in a studio with bathroom, where I was Donald Trump's neighbor, and finally here to public housing in Byram for elderly and disabled people, where I have been ever since.

07/10/23 Monday 10:50 P.M.. I moved the kitchen Insignia 24 inch Smart TV remote control to the bedroom desk, where the LG sound bar remote is also located. One has to turn on the LG sound bar with the LG sound bar remote control for the 24 inch Insignia Smart TV in the bedroom window to have sound. It is a very cool location with the LG 7,000 BTU portable air conditioner at that location.
Thus "Ninth Circle TV Repair" is back at full power. The Ninth Circle Pub on West Ninth Street in Greenwich Village was where some of the younger people from CBS Broadcasting used to hang out listening the very good jute box. Next in the basement on the west side was a 24 hour TV repair shop, where one could get TV parts in the early 1970s. When I used the apartment on West 20th Street for four months in the winter of 1974, I was able to find a small vacuum tube to repair the 1950s black and white RCA TV in that apartment across the street from the Anglican Seminary where there were also Long Shoremen in the neighborhood on the waterfront. The Anglican Seminary was also near the Seaman's Church as I recall. Back then the waterfront of the Chelsea neighborhood had about a four block long warehouse for maintenance of the New York City buses and the New York City garbage trucks. It was on the same street as the New York City police academy and a few blocks east Metropolitan Life Insurance had a big building that took up a whole block. The area has since become more deluxe with the Whitney Museum on West 14th Street. CIO
07/10/23 Monday 9:45 P.M.. On the Insignia 24 inch Smart TV in the bedroom window, I was able to do a hard reset by unplugging it, and then holding the power button on the bottom center of the TV and plugging it in and releasing the power button once the startup screen appears and then going through the prompt screen to do a clean reboot and refresh the cache. It now works fine, and it will have its own TV remote control in a couple of days. I set it up the same way.

07/07/23 Friday 10:35 P.M.. When I used Fred Von Mierer's apartment at 420 East 49th Street from October 1973 to February 1975, he had taken over Billy Baldwin's interior decorating business along with Taylor Sterling from Greenwich who was from Greenwich and the architect who had designed the Rockefeller Ranch House in Venezuela. Around February 1975, he had me and his friend George Nichols from Greenwich who was the assistant editor of the New York Times move Helen Kress Williams on three zero degree nights from her gate house on her 40 acre estate to a rental house next to the Locust Valley Fire House. Helen William's main house had burned down in the 1930s, but her 40 acres were on Long Island Sound near Sagamore Hill and Abby Rockefeller's estate. Helen was Fred Von Mierer's godmother. Her son was Claude Williams from Houston who was the largest highway contractor in America. She was from the Kress family that owned Kress Department stores and had the Kress Art Collection. She was also the head of the board of trustees for the Brooklyn Museum, had the head table at the Opera Guild at Lincoln Center and paid for the Antiques show at the Armory on Park Avenue. She knew both Teddy Roosevelt's daughter Alice Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. While moving her when Freddie was not around, I chatted with her. She told me that I should not be afraid of Nelson Rockefeller that Freddie had been photographed with in the New York Daily News. Fred supposedly was designing a beach house bungalow for his house in Bermuda. She also mentioned that in 1882, when the volcano Krakatoa erupted, the aftermath was a 15 foot snow fall in Manhattan, and it even snowed there in July, so it was colder. She also mentioned that she was friends with Rose Kennedy, and the erupting volcanoes in Iceland had caused the Irish Potato famine. Helen was the head trustee of Vassar College, so she knew a lot of influential women. She also told me we had to keep an eye on Jimmy Eldert, so I assumed she knew his founding Dutch family of New Amsterdam. About a month later, Helen was driving out to Locust Valley, and she was killed in a car wreck. I was told that in July 1975 on www.nantucket.net by Charlie Muller a friend of Fred's whose father was the head of the New York FBI. What is sort of strange is when I was in Key West from October 1976 until April 1978 on an off, when not on Nantucket, I saw an older woman that looked like Helen Kress Williams, and there was a Kress Department store on Duval Street in Key West that later became called, "Fast Buck Freddie's." Helen Williams had Fred Von Mierers attend a garden party at Buckingham Palace, where he met Mick Jaeger. I did once see a picture of Helen Williams at a society event out in Santa Barbara. She also used to help organize the International Debutant Ball. Her Manhattan apartment was across the street from Halston's showroom, whom she helped start in business. She also told me during World War One, she was traveling on a train Europe, and she met a young man who was trying sell little boxes of Tide Detergent, and he went on to become the President of Proctor and Gamble the soap company that owned all of the Soap Operas on television. She told me during World War Two, she and her church friends were told to plant poison ivy around all of the churches in case the Germans invaded. She would make an A&P tea bag last a week, and then used the old tea bags in her garden. After I helped move her, she came out to Greenwich with the whole Long Island Garden Club, so she might have known somebody out here. Oyster Bay is directly South of Greenwich on the North Shore of Long Island. Fred once when he was busy also had me take Helen Williams to the head table at the opera guild at Lincoln Center, and she was connected well enough that a New York City bus picked us up at her apartment and dropped us off at Lincoln Center and returned us. He also had me take her once to Carnegie Hall, where we sat behind Stewart Mott the General Motors heir. So I think Fred and Helen knew quite a few people back then. I was also told the Old Guard in Manhattan have a formal Waltz every night at some undisclosed location. Also Billy Baldwin looked like the Duke of Windsor and knew him. Billy Baldwin vacationed on Nantucket from the 1930s. Also in February 1974, I also threw a party in a warehouse across the street from CBS News on West 57th Street. I arrived with my mother and younger sister and Helen and Fred. At the party, I met the grandson of the Emperor of Japan. It was a $5 a head party with all that one could drink. There was a blizzard that night, when we were driving around New York City.

At 9 A.M., I went back into CVS, and I picked up three prescriptions. I paid a dollar in quarters for parking for 40 minutes. I then went to the Stop and Shop at 161 West Putnam Avenue, and from the clearance section, I bought a box of six croissants for $2.99, and then I bought a five pound bag of yellow potatoes for $5.99, two 15 ounce Ken's North Italian dressing for $3 each, two six packs of Stop and Shop English muffins for $1.50 each, and two 6 ounce bags of baby spinach for $2.50 each for $23.68 total.
