Note: <888> 03/31/10 Wednesday 11:40 P.M..  In 1953 to 1954, my father Louis Dale Scott who was a chemical engineer worked for DuPont. The miracles of Science™ in Martinsville, Virginia.  In reading about the DuPont family, I noticed that Pierre DuPont's only child was his daughter who married the actor Randolph Scott who also was a member of the Scott family from Virginia.  I did not have much contact with the DuPont family after that, until about the time I was going to graduate from www.lfc.edu in 1972, I went to Trader's Vics in Chicago, Illinois for dinner, and there was a private party going on there for the DuPont Paint pigments supplies group.  Thus I guess DuPont makes paint pigment.  In the summer of 1972, my girl friend in Lake Forest, Illinois whose family owned Morgan Stanley introduced my to Rob Glore and Hurley Haywood.  Hurley's family owned the Harris Trust Bank in Chicago, Illinois and Rob's mother was a DuPont.  His grandmother lived across the street from the Onwensia Country Club in Lake Forest, Illinois, and she had Lady Bug's painted on the bottom of her swimming pool.  Rob had just gotten out of college in Switzerland, and he was living with a friend who was a United States Navy medic on the north side of Chicago.  Later that fall, Rob, Hurley, and his cousin of last name Whitney from Wasetta, Minnesota, and myself drove Hurley's Cigarette Boat, Porsche, and Pickup truck down to Point De Vedra in Jacksonville, Florida.  I left, and I went down to St. Thomas to visit Peter Isham another roommate at the Farm who was teaching down there.  Rob and his cousin went down to his place in Key West, Florida after that, since he had a shop down there.  The next winter in January 1973, I visited with Hurley at the Waldorf Towers in Manhattan, and that is where I saw the Duke of Windsor still alive entering the Waldorf Towers.  Hurley's grandfather was General Hurley, the first American General to deal with Mao Tse Tung.  When I went down on my own to Key West, Florida on Halloween in 1976, Rob was already established as one of the primary business people down there.  He had a craft shop across the street from the post office which employed about seven women.  Apparently the DuPont family owned the largest bank in Florida called the First National Bank of Florida.  One did not see Rob much down there, since he was private; but he occasionally could be seen walking an Irish Setter.  Back in April 1977, he cashed my six months of unemployment checks, when they finally arrived, and I left Key West with Jimmy Eldert and we visited Hurley Haywood in Jacksonville, Florida, and then I paid $150 for Jimmy to fly back to the University of New Hampshire on Eastern airlines.  I later saw Jimmy in Nantucket that summer.  As Key West became even busier the following year, one did not see much of Rob around, although Jimmy and John were there.  Also, in October 1973, when I bought the 1970 blue Volvo sedan from Dave Peabody here in Greenwich, Connecticut, my father arranged a $1,750 loan from a Mr. DuPont at the Union Bank in Darien, Connecticut.  I suppose there might have been other Duponts around, but I never noticed.   CIO

I use to get a good bargain on fresh fish, by buying them from the charter captains in Key West, Florida whom usually have a lot of extra fish at the charter docks.  If one is into bridge fishing, I used to fish underneath the south end of the bridge at the 26 mile marker.  If you shop lift at Fautos, you probably end up going to jail.  They can also throw people in jail down there for dropping a piece of pizza paper on the street.  However, if you have money and drink alcohol, they tend to treat you like a VIP. 

Jimmy Eldert had a red haired friend that lived in a Japanese style house near the Casa Marina.  I think his friend was in the landscaping business. 

The Mosquito Control District is responsible for keeping the mosquitoes away, or nobody could stand to be down there.

Rob Glore had the Craft shop across the street from the Key West Post Office.  Steve Bahil lived above the funeral home just south of the Post Office.  Whitehead Street had about 50 lawyers for drug busts.

I lived in the Key West Hotel Resorts & Florida Keys Beach Accommodations - Casa Marina Resort Key West for free in the winter of 1978, when it was undergoing remodeling.  Jimmy Eldert knew Chris Ray of the End of the Road Construction company that was doing the job.  John Bolton had a key to the hotel, when I met him, and he claimed to be the architect.  Of course back then, there was so little money in Key West, Florida, people tended to believe anything that people said.  The last time I was in Key West, Florida in the winter of 1982, I stayed with somebody that looked like Prince Andrew who was from Canada, and he lived in a remodeled garage near the Casa Marina.  I also stayed with Steve Bahil.  Back in 1982, you were not allowed to camp out on the beach, which in the 1970s people were able to do.

Boyd's Camp Ground was in Stock Island just east of Key West, and further up the Florida Keys was the Welcome to John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park - Key Largo, Florida Keys .  However, I am sure this time of year, it is quite busy down there with Spring Break.

I used to get away with sleeping in my car in the parking lot at the Key West International Jetport.  Of course, when I was down there in the 1970s, there were a lot of abandoned government buildings, such as the red brick building south of Mallory Square.  From what I could tell a lot of the buildings were run down and abandoned at the Truman Annex Naval Base too.

Note: <888> 03/31/10 Wednesday 7:55 P.M..  I ate two bowls of Cheez-its, and I finally went to bed at 3 P.M. after watching the Japanese movie.  I woke up at 1:30 P.M..  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  I made my bed.  I showered, and I cleaned up.  I went out, and I noticed a sign on the bulletin board by the mail room downstairs, and it said no smoking was allowed in the building, and people smoking would be asked to leave.  I think it refers to the public areas such as the hallways and the community room and not the apartments.  I checked with the fire marshall downtown, when I went downtown, and he checked with the police dispatcher, and there is no law against smoking in one's apartments in Connecticut public housing.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I used the bathroom at the Senior and the Arts center.  I toured CVS.  I used the bathroom again at the senior and the arts center.  I then went by the Greenwich Library.  I chatted with a staff member and a local lawyer.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a four pack of yesterday's muffins for $2 all, a dozen extra large eggs expire April 20, 2010 for $2.39, a 21 ounce box of Cheez-its for $3.99, a 40 package box of Truvia sweetener for $2.59, a eye round roast for $2.99 a pound for $4.96, a two pound bag of baby carrots for $2.99, fresh Chiquita bananas for .69 a pound for $1.67, broccoli crowns for $1.99 a pound for $2.89, and a five pound bag of red potatoes for $3.49 for $27.97 total.  I then returned home.  I chatted with a neighbor, and I showed the neighbor my new apartment layout.  I threw out three old eggs.  I chatted with a neighbor's friend.  CIO

A friend called today who was driving by Harriman, New York on the New York Thruway, and he wanted to know whether the Hutchinson River Parkway or the Saw Mill River parkway were flooded.

I advised him to continue down the New York State Thruway and on to the Major Deegan Expressway to the Cross Bronx Expressway and over to Long Island on one of the two bridges.

Note: <888> 03/29/10 Monday 9:10 P.M..  From the period from 1972 until 1982, I used to occasionally live in Manhattan.  Since most of that time I was unemployed helping out around friend's apartments, I managed to keep busy with apartment chores.  I usually got up late in the day.  I would dress up properly in a wool or corduroy trousers and a sports jacket with a wool sweater.  I would start my days eating breakfast or late lunch breakfast at an inexpensive coffee shop nearby where I lived and read the New York Times.  Depending on the weather, I would walk around the midtown area of Manhattan enjoying the pedestrian viewpoint of life.  On bad weather days, I would frequently go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which I got to know quite well.  I only lived in Manhattan one summer, and then I spent more time exploring Central Park.  Of course, since I knew people and had family living in the Connecticut suburbs and also knew people way out on Long Island, I would also spend time going back and forth to the suburbs.  After dinners in the evening in the city which I eventually learned to cook myself, I would go out for a walk around the areas that I lived in.  Frequently late at night I would go downtown to Greenwich Village and visit pubs which the younger generation would frequent.  Most people were working one of many starter jobs.  I frequently talked about computers having worked with an IBM 360 mainframe while at Polaroid one summer.  I always said "GIGO", "Garbage In Garbage Out."  About 1982 Apple came out with the Lisa, so New Yorker became more computer literate about the time I moved out of New York City.

Thus I spent a great deal of time walking around Manhattan exploring what it had to offer.  I never drank much alcohol, and pubs were a warm place to have a cigarette and chat with other young people.  About the time I moved out of Manhattan, a lot of the pubs seemed to have become video bars, since a lot of the younger people around New York University did not have English as a primary language and with the video going or the music going, nobody knew they were non English speaking students.  I think from their looks a lot of them were European, so after all of these years, they must be professionals by now.  In Greenwich Village there were a lot of people from the upper East Side and upper West side, Brooklyn, New Jersey, and Long Island.  I never ran into many people from Connecticut except a few Yale University students exploring the City on weekends.  Up until 1983, I also lived occasionally on Long Island, Nantucket, South Florida, and I also made about four trips to California, where not many people knew anything about computers except the programming language Fortran. 

I never explored Wall Street very much, since there was not too much going on there at night, and it was usually deserted whenever I went down there during the night hours.  However, in the daytime it was quite busy.  I felt more comfortable around the Midtown East Side area, since with Grand Central station there were more people from Connecticut and Westchester Counties.  However that area is a lot more expensive.  Since I knew people with their own apartments, I had people I could visit with and meet their friends.  On VIP days in Midtown, there would be a lot more security and more people.  It was sort of hard to figure out whom actually lived there, and whom actually was visiting.  Since the east side of Midtown is near Queens, one would also see a lot of people from Queens. 

Generally when one mentioned one that they were from Connecticut, it was assumed one lived way out in the country.  New Yorkers tend not to listen to people or understand.  When I used to drive into Manhattan at night when it was cheaper to park, it would frequently take less than a half hour to get there.  Of course, one had to move their car by rush hour in the daytime. 

I also took the train frequently, but that was like riding a crowded subway car which I also did frequently.  I learned traveling the City buses although slower was much more of an enjoyable trip, and one could see all of the sights above ground.  Ever in the early morning hours, the buses run all night, if you do not mind waiting a while for a bus on a cold winter's night.

Since the country was in a recession in the period that I lived in Manhattan, nobody was too interested in Wall Street or business.  However, there were always people still going to Manhattan trying to make ends meet.  I knew quite a few people whom were established outside of the New York City area, so they could afford to live there part of the time.

I noticed over time, that although I was going into Manhattan, a lot of the people back out in Greenwich, Connecticut did not always like the people that were showing up here on the reverse trip.  However, I figured it would be good for business out here in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Most Manhattan people do not watch television, since they have so many other activities to pursue.

Still having lived back in Greenwich, Connecticut since December 1983, when I spent the previous two weeks in Manhattan homeless living out of the East Side airline terminal, I figure I am better out here that walking around in circles in Manhattan.

One roommate tried to get me to work at the Scandia ski shop on West 57th Street across the street from the Royal Bank of Scotland, but since although I might look Scandinavian, I do not know much about skiing. 

Since I live about 7 miles south of www.ibm.com in nearby Armonk, New York to the north of me, I figure there are a lot of computer people around me, and they are just more specialized, so they are not too chatty or too outgoing about computers which frequently bores non computer people particular financial types.   CIO

Note: <888> 03/29/10 Monday 4:20 P.M..  I woke up at 10:30 A.M. this morning, when a neighbor barrowed four cigarettes.  I went back to bed until 12:30 P.M..   I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  I made my bed.  I had a computer magazine telephone call from the Philippines.  I moved the electric clock from behind the oak dining table to the right side of the oak table on the window shelf, where it is more visible.  I moved the RCA clock radio from the window shelf to on top of the Epox computer.  I showered, and I cleaned up.  I threw out the garbage.  I chatted with neighbors.  I moved the Audi to its usual location.  Somebody has retrieved the brass and glass coffee table from the dumpster area.  The vintage Scott sofa is still there with its slip covers.  It is getting a good washing in the heavy rain, so once it dried out after the rain storm, it will be cleaner.  CIO

Note: <888> 03/28/10 Sunday 6:35 P.M..  I went out this afternoon.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by CVS, and I used the bathroom.  I bought a 12 ounce bottle of CVS Ultra Moisturizing Body Wash for $2.69 less a $1.99 off CVS internet coupon and .04 tax for .74 total.  I also bought four buy one get one free of 18.8 ounce Campbell's New England Clam chowder for $3.19 for two for $6.38 total.  I said hello to a former night person.  I chatted with a friend on my AT&T Go Phone to see if it works all right.  I stopped by the ATM machine at the Chase Bank on Central Greenwich Avenue.  After my walk, I chatted with a person walking a part Samoyed and part Chou dog.  I then went by the Greenwich Automotive Services Gulf Station, and I bought $5 of self service premium gasoline for $3.399 a gallon for 1.471 gallons at odometer reading of 65647 miles for 15.8 miles driving since last Saturday a week ago for 10.74 miles per gallon driving this past week.   I then returned home.  I chatted a relative twice and a friend.   CIO

The Town of Greenwich advises you the National Weather Service has issued a FLOOD WATCH for the entire State of Connecticut. The forecast anticipates heavy rain with accumulation ranging from 3 to as much as 8 inches of rain over the next 36 to 48 hours. The Town is providing sand bags at the Glenville, Cos Cob and Sound Beach Fire Departments starting this evening and continuing through the storm event to assist residents with property protection. We strongly recommend residents take action to safeguard their personal property most notably in the low lying, flood prone and coastal flood areas.

Note: <888> 03/27/10 Saturday 7:00 P.M..  The USB cable that I had was long enough to hook up the Samsung color laser printer.  I threw out the four half gallons of Epsom Salts that I had stored in the bathroom for a long time.  I also threw out the HP Photosmart P1000 inkjet printer.  I organized the cushions and the pillows on the sofa by the dumpster along with the two slip covers.  Although it is a 60 year old sofa, it is eight feet long; so if there are any tall strong people in the area, they might want it.  There are also four short broken sofa legs by it.  CIO

I took the Epox computer items off the brass and glass table, and I put them on the bed in the bedroom.  I put the brass and glass coffee table out by the dumpster.  I removed the items hanging behind the front entry door, so it opened all of the way.  I stripped the 96 inch long sofa of its slip covers and cushions, and I put them in the hallway.  I was able to leverage the sofa out into the hallway.  I chatted with a neighbor.  I threw away the cushions and the slip covers.  I paid a neighbor $20 to help me move the sofa down the back stairway and out by the dumpster.  I took out the oak leaf from the FIC server, and I put in one of the white shelves.  I put in a white shelf last night on the primary Vista computer, so both oak leaves were available.  I vacuumed along the windows where the sofa had been.  I moved some chairs and other items into the hallway.  I moved the oak dining table underneath the windows against the wall, and I put in both oak leaves, so the table is 76 inches long.  I put the primary Dell Latitude D410 laptop on the left side of the oak table, and I put the Epox computer on the right side.  I set up their accessories.  I threw out the Epson Stylus Color 880 printer, and I put the Minolta Laser 1350 on top of the FIC server.  I chatted with a relative.  I put the lazy Susan on the oak table.  I set up one eating place, and if the wireless keyboard is moved on the Epox computer, there is a second eating place.  I put the oak keyboard drawer underneath bedroom Abit computer.  I moved the two Afghans to the end of the bed.  I threw out the sofa pillows.  I threw out the wooden cassette cases.  I moved the throw rugs a little bit, and I vacuumed the apartment.  I put the recliner on an angle in front of the entry door facing the television, and I have the Harvard chair opposite it.  I put the small mahogany table on the right side of the Harvard chair with telephones on it.  I moved one small brass and glass table to the left side of the recliner, and I put remote controls and magazines on it.  I finished vacuuming.  I chatted with a friend.  I put items that I had put out in the hallway back in the apartment including three chairs around the oak dining table.  I moved the antenna for the shortwave radio, so it is now setup on the small white bookcase at the kitchen entrance.  I have the Samsung color laser printer on the far left corner on the oak dining table, and I still have to find a longer USB cable to connect it to the primary Vista computer.  The power strip for the Dell Latitude D410 laptop is on the far right of the white shelf of the FIC server.  I took of the burgundy throw off the French reproduction chair, and I stored it on the closet, so the white quilted throw with sheep skin in now on it.

I ate two hot dogs on buns with ketchup and mustard and 1/4th of a 6.3 ounce tube of Pringle salt and vinegar potato chips and a dill pickle slice, and watered down punch.  I will now shower and clean up.   CIO

Note: <888> 03/26/10 Friday 9:20 P.M..  I chatted with a relative and two friends.  The sofa is 96 inches long, so it will not fit in the elevator.  I might try to do the furniture move tomorrow, if I am up early enough.  I think I can take the slip covers and cushions off the sofa, and once I am able to get it out of the apartment, I can drag it down the back stairway to the dumpster area which is close by.  If I can not do it, I have a friend than can help me move it this Sunday.  I can put the French reproduction chair opposite the Ethan Allen recliner, and I can put the Harvard chair at the hallway entrance.  Technically I do not need the Epox computer in the living room, and I could stick it in the bedroom, and store Abit computer that is now in the bedroom away.  Once one starts moving furniture and other items, it sort of all evolves.  However, there will not be as many comfortable sitting areas in the apartment, but it will be more open and spacious.   CIO 

Note: <888> 03/26/10 Friday 8:00 P.M..  I woke up last night, and I ate 2/3rds of a 10 ounce can of CVS Deluxe mixed nuts.  I finally woke up at 10 A.M. this morning.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  I made my bed.  I showered, and I cleaned up.

For the two Dell D410 laptops, I ordered two Meritline.com - Laptop Shockproof Sleeve, Foam Material , Fits up to all 14.1" notebook for $5.99 each for $11.98 total with free shipping.  The Dell D410 laptops are 10 inches wide, but the wireless card sticks out another 2 inches for 12 inches wide, and they are 10.5 inches deep with the larger batteries, and an 1.25 inches thick, so they should fit in the above notebook sleeves.

I went downstairs, and I chatted with neighbors, and I threw out the garbage.  I watched www.foxnews.com, and I made 214 Premier Lights 100 MM filter Peter Stokkebye Norwegian shag pipe tobacco cigarettes.  I went outside, and I retrieved two white veneer composite shelves that are 47 inches long and 11 inches wide.  I stored them on the far right of the bedroom closet.  I might use them to support my primary computer monitors setup or at least one, if I use the oak dining table leaves mention below for the oak dining table.

I went back outside, and I chatted with neighbors.  I picked up the mail.  I chatted with a relative about a potential project.  Since I have to move some of the furniture out of my apartment for them to install the double pane windows sometime after Easter, I am thinking about getting rid of the 6 foot long Scott family sofa that came from Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1947.  It has cow tail stuffing and is very comfortable.  I fixed its bottom webbing about a half dozen years ago with nylon webbing.  I would also get rid of the mahogany desk that the FIC server sits on.  I would also get rid of the brass and glass coffee table that the Epox computer sits on. 

I would move the 56 inch diameter oak dining table against the outside wall with the windows possibly with the two 12 inch leaves for 76 inches total length.  There would not be room to put chairs at eight end, but I could put several along the open side.  I could set up the FIC and the Epox computers on it.  I would move the Ethan Allan recliner out into the room on a diagonal facing the Sony television.  I would put the mahogany tea table adjacent to it with the telephones or I could use one of the two small brass and glass end tables, and I could put the Harvard dining chair opposite it. 

There would be enough room to move the oak dining table out at least four feet to do the double pane window installation.  The Sony television, and its stand, and possibly the chest beneath the stand would still would have to be moved along with the curtains and curtain rods and the other items on the living room window shelf.  I think it would be simpler to down size now and as opposed to some time in the future when I am older, when it might be more difficult; particularly so, since I will have to moving the furniture anyway.

Earlier I threw out the garbage and the old periodical literature, and I watered the plants.   CIO

Note: <888> 03/25/10 Thursday 6:05 P.M..  I woke up the last two nights, and I ate a bowl of white cheddar Cheez-its.   I finally woke up at 8 A.M. this morning.  The windows installers were doing my neighbor's two small windows on the roof adjacent to my apartment.  I was told by the windows installer foreman, they will not be working here next week, so it will be a while, before they do my windows.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  I made my bed.  I showered, and I cleaned up.  I chatted with a relative.  I threw out the garbage, and I chatted with a neighbor.  I chatted with another relative.  Yesterday, I also threw out the white breakfast tray from the bedroom.  I also chatted with a friend who is coming out to visit with her husband on Easter Sunday, so we will do the usual ride around and probably visit Tod's Point weather permitting.  I went out to my 1 P.M. appointment.  I toured the Greenwich Hospital.  I chatted with someone fixing an information computer running Windows XP.  The bulletin board downstairs opposite the cafeteria has some local rental properties for rent.  Somebody has a big round red Coca Cola sign in their office.  I was told by the doorman, they now serve their delicious beef stroganoff dinner on Wednesday evenings for about $5.  I went downtown, and I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I chatted with a local.  I chatted with a neighbor getting his Mac Desktop fixed at the Mac store.  I stopped by CVS.  Another acquaintance told me he had a tree fall on his family house, and he was getting a camera to photograph it for insurance purposes.  I bought a 12 pack of CVS double roll premium toilet paper septic tank safe for $4.97 and .30 tax for $5.27 total.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I chatted with one of the staff.  It seems back to normal after the storm cleanup.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 24 ounce family size box of Cheez-its for $3.99, a four pack of yesterday muffins for $2, a CAB which I think stands for "Canadian Angus Beef" London Broil for $2.99 a pound for $5.98, and fresh Chiquita bananas for .69 a pound for $1.94 for $13.91 total.  I then returned home.  I picked up the mail.  I put away my groceries.  I will now make and eat the same London Broil dinner that I have been eating recently.  CIO

Note: <888> 03/24/10 Wednesday 8:00 P.M..  I went out after the last note.  I parked in front of the park in front of the Ferrari dealership,  and I walked over to the new Greenwich Hardware store next to www.mcdonalds.com .  I tried to get a four prong energy saving light bulb, but they did not have them there.   They are mostly rental equipment for people with real estate that needs to be maintained.  I went by the Greenwich Hardware store downtown, and they sold me the four prong energy saving light bulb for $5.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I cleaned up some newspaper fliers in front of the senior and the arts center before my walk.  On the way up Greenwich Avenue, I stopped by there again, and I found the two different parts for the smoker's post that had been misplaced in two different locations, and I put it together by the right side of the building entrance.  I used the bathroom there.  On the way up Greenwich Avenue, I browsed the sales brochure at CVS.  I stopped by the Chase Bank on West Putnam Avenue just west of Greenwich Avenue.  After my walk, I sat out for a while, and I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center again.  Before I went out today, I noticed all of the phonograph records that I had put by the dumpster were gone.  After my walk, I returned home.  I found a blue heavy nylon chair by the dumpster that I put in my Audi trunk with the other folding nylon chairs.  It is heavy duty for a fat person.  I tried the energy saving light bulb in the second of the two energy saving lamps in the bedroom, but the lamp was defective, so I threw it away.  I thus have two of the four prong spare energy saving light bulbs for the one still remaining in the bedroom.  I saved the lamp shade from the defective one.  I also picked up my mail on the way upstairs.  I took down the Lindbergh print, and I put it back in the bedroom window, and I hung the Picasso print from the living room on the bedroom wall above the sideboard bookcase.  I put one of the two yellow pineapple lamps on the sideboard bookcase, and it turns on with the light switch at the bedroom entrance along with a few other lights.  Earlier today, I threw out all of the sales receipts that I had saved in my file cabinet, and I put in the laser printer receipts in the upper file cabinet from the paper holder stack on the mahogany bureau.  I moved the Audi to its usual location.  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

I straightened up the bedroom area today.  I threw out all of my phonograph records about 150 of them.  I left them by the dumpster, and people have been taking them.  I threw out the small appliances that I had on the left living room closet shelf.  They included a Krups steamer, a Welbilt bread machine, a juicer, a blender, and a pasta machine with attachments.  I threw out my floppy disk cases from the chest underneath the living room Sony TV stand along with the old floppy disks.  I put the spare computer parts boxes from the bedroom book shelves on the left living room closet shelf, and where the phonograph records were in the entertainment center.  I put a punch of small computer parts in a bag in the TV chest.  I threw out an old 12 pack of Heineken an old 6 pack of German beer.  I sorted out the items on the bedroom shelves, and I threw out a lots of unneeded items including the broken Sony Handicam.  I took out the table that one shelf unit sat on, and I threw out the table, so there is now more room at the end of the bed in the bedroom with just the shelf unit there.  I threw out a bunch of old car stuff.  The building custodian looked at the changes in my apartment, and we discussed what we would do, when they do my windows.  It should be easier to move the bedroom shelves if need be, since there is not much stuff in them.  I gave the building custodian the Long Island light bulb to use as a terrarium.  People are gradually taking the phonograph records outside.  I also threw out two plastic hood milk crates.  I threw out some old computer parts including a half dozen keyboards and a dozen mice.  I hung the Lindbergh print on the bedroom wall above the shelf unit.

I ate a 18 ounce can of Campbell's New England clam chowder with an English muffin with Smart Balance and watered down punch.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go downtown.  CIO

I picked up the mail.  I got the form for my new Connecticut Driver's license.  This the Norwalk office hours DMV: Norwalk Office .  There is a $66 fee.

Note: <888> 03/20/10 Saturday 9:05 P.M..  I went out after the last note.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I sat out at various locations.  They have new U.S.A. flags at the central Greenwich post office and the veterans monument across the street from the Senior and the Arts center.  They have no parking signs up for tomorrow's St. Patrick's Day parade.  There is no parking on Greenwich Avenue from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. and also on Steamboat Road between the train station and Arch Street.  I read the sales brochure at CVS.  I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  I then drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road.  The traffic light is now working.  The most frequent fisherman was down there.  He did not go to Islamorada this winter.  He had pneumonia twice this winter from keeping his house temperature at 55 degrees Fahrenheit.  He likes the new Greenwich Hospital though.  I told him he should stay out of the cooler evening weather.  I next sat out briefly at the Greenwich Library.  I then went by the Greenwich Automotive Services Gulf station, and I bought $10 of self service premium at $3.399 a gallon for 2.943 gallons 36.3 miles driving in the last 12 days since March 8, 2010 at odometer reading of 65631 miles for 12.34 miles per gallon driving in mostly local traffic.  I cleaned the outside car windows.  I checked the tires for 32 PSI. 

I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a half gallon of Florida Natural orange juice with calcium for $3, 16 ounces of Smart Balance spread lite for $2.50, a quart jar of Vlassic kosher dill spears for $3.19, a 15 ounce bottle of Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce for $4.39, a cab London Broil for $2.99 a pound for $7.36, a two pound bag of baby carrots for $2.99, fresh Chiquita bananas for .69 a pound for $1.64, and broccoli crowns for $1.99 a pound for $2.29 for $27.36 total. 

I then returned home.  I did not get any mail.   I put away my groceries.  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

With the Bush family out of political office and with the economy in recession, there is not that much going on Greenwich, Connecticut anymore that would draw national attention.  Of course people here manage to survive, so they are probably living the way most of the rest of the country does, and outside of a few people from Manhattan whom think we are more affluent because we have more space around us, there is not really too much that has changed around here over the years.  I suppose if one had a bit of extra money, one could explore neighboring suburban areas, but with the price of gasoline that can be expensive.  Since I have lived here since 1961, I have pretty much seen a lot of the New York Metropolitan area, and thus having seen it before, I do not feel the need to see it all again.  It seems to me that since we have a lot of professionals that read a lot of printed material, this area does not really cater to the televised media people that so many other people seem to enjoy watching. 

I am a bit tired, so I will now shut down the primary Vista computer, and I will go to bed soon.

Note: <888> 03/16/10 Tuesday 5:20 P.M..  I went to my 3 P.M. appointment at the Greenwich Town Hall after the last note.  The News 12 satellite truck was there.  After my appointment I went by CVS to pick up a prescription, since their computer had called me up, but there was no prescription on their records.  I then drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road.  The traffic light at Steamboat Road in front of the Delamar Hotel is out.  There are two large trees that have fallen down on Steamboat Road, but they have been cleared away.  One is halfway down the road on the east side.  The other is at the southern end on the east side in between the last house and the Indian Harbor Yacht Club boat storage area.  It is cleared away, but it knocked down the wooden and chain link fence around the boats that also protects the house's privacy.  Also there is a lot of sea weed on the road by the pier.  I then returned home, and I picked up my mail.

While downtown, I saw Davey Tree trucks Davey Tree : Expert Tree Service Since 1880 .

Knapp Tree is also in Wilton, Connecticut Knapp Tree Inc, Wilton CT 06897 -- MerchantCircle.com .  They both have large amounts of heavy equipment, but they are probably a bit busy.

The last tall evergreen in front of the Greenwich Town Hall has fallen down, and it still had its Christmas Tree lights on it.

Also the tree that fractured on the north side of the Board of Education parking lot has had its broken part removed, and hopefully it will survive since it is a great Chestnut tree which one notices in the fall when the Chestnuts are on the ground. CIO

Storm Notice:

Governor Rell met in Greenwich with First Selectman Peter Tesei and in Stamford with Mayor Michael Pavia on Monday. After reviewing the damage and discussing the situation with local leaders, the Governor announced she will declare a state of emergency.

At Governor Rell’s direction, the state Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS) is working with Connecticut cities and towns to tally damage to public property and to homes and businesses, as well as expenses incurred in responding to the storm, to determine whether the state could qualify for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Governor Rell said federal disaster assistance will be sought if minimum damage requirements are met. For Fairfield County, for example, a minimum of $2.85 million in damage must be recorded for that county to qualify for federal disaster assistance. For state government’s expenditures to qualify for federal reimbursement, the state would need to incur $4.39 million in costs.

DEMHS Commissioner Peter Boynton also held a conference call today with chief elected officials and first responders to determine whether communities needed any additional help from the state.

I threw out the garbage.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I used the bathroom at CVS, when I toured the store.  The new building where the Electrolux shop used to be off Greenwich Avenue is going to be a bicycle shop.  I noticed two smaller trees had come down at St. Mary's.  I ran into a regular walker there, and I walked back up Greenwich Avenue as far east at Milbank Avenue.  We saw the destruction at Whole Foods.  We then walked back down Greenwich Avenue, and I noticed the big tree on the north side of the Board of Education parking lot had split apart.  It looks like it might have to come down.  I sat out for a while with the other walker.  I then said good bye.  I then used the bathroom at the Senior and the Arts center.  The building is opened today, but there are no programs for seniors.   The bench on the north side of the park in front of the senior and arts center is damaged, and I think it was caused by a snow plow pushing snow against it earlier in the season.  The U.S.A. flags at the veterans monument across from the senior and the arts center and the Greenwich Post Office looked to be quite shredded by the storm. 

I then went by the Stop and Shop, I bought a six pack of Kaiser rolls for $2.49, a 16 ounce package of Smart Balance Lite for $2.50, deli white Land-O-Lakes cheese for $5.99 a pound for $6.05, deli sliced Virginia ham for $5.99 a pound for $8.87,a petit sirloin steak for $3.99 a pound less a $1 off coupon for $4.03, and fresh Chiquita bananas for .69 a pound for $1.83 for $25.77 total.  I then returned home.  They are working on repairing the roof on my building.  They are also doing two windows downstairs in my wing.  I put away the groceries.

Note: <888> 03/13/10 Saturday 1:50 A.M..  On the Epox computer, it sometimes does not turn on, when one presses the power switch on the CPU.  The way to avoid the problem is not to have the two LCD monitors turned on from the control panel.  I have not figured out any other way to avoid problem.  It the CPU does not turn on with the LCD monitors turned off, one has to turn the CPU switch on and off from the control panel before pressing the CPU power button, and it then seems to work.  CIO

I went outside, and they are doing a pair of windows on the left side of the front entry way.  I chatted with a neighbor.  I walked around the building.   The windows are all done on the west side of the building except the lower level at the north end.  They are not going to do the two story high windows on the south side of the building.  I assume they are going to do my windows, but last August when the engineers looked at my apartment, they did not measure the windows.  My four big windows which are eight feet by four feet are more complex, since I am on the second story above a flat one story high roof.  I assume if they do them, they will use scaffolding and ladders.  I was told by my social worker, when I am notified about them doing the windows, I can contact my social worker, and they can get me help in moving my furniture away from the windows which after 20 years in a small apartment is somewhat complex.  More than likely some of the furniture will have to go in the hallway.  Also the curtains and the curtain rods will have to come down.  CIO 

Note: <888> 03/12/10 Friday 6:45 A.M..  I did a Vista Complete PC backup of the primary Vista computer from the first hard drive to the second hard drive.  I went out, and I threw out the garbage.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I sat out at various locations.  I used the bathroom at the Greenwich Train Station.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at Starbucks.  Starbucks is advertising $1.50 cups of coffee.  The Red Cross has a blood drive today at St. Mary's on Greenwich Avenue from 12:30 P.M. to 6 P.M..  They have a new orange street cleaning machine on Greenwich Avenue that looks like it might be a European machine.  There are several news shops, and several more shops have gone out of business.  Just north of the Belgium bakery there is a large British Union Jack in the new store there.  After my walk, I drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road.  There are no fishermen there yet.  I then returned home.  I picked up the mail. 

I am going to uninstall the Computer Associates Internet Security System from the Epox computer Vista partition, so hopefully it will run faster with the Vista Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials Antivirus program.  CIO

I Google Earthed Decatur, Alabama, and it seems Stratford Road ran east and west.  Thus just west of Summerville Road where the old stone quarry with the Quartz used to be, it seems to have been leveled off and turned into commercial buildings.  The Road to the West of the Walter Jackson School playground seems to still be there, but they have planted trees around the playground.  They have tornadoes in that part of the country.  CIO

I then went by CVS, and I bought three 9.5 ounce cans of CVS smoked almonds for $2.99 each, two 10 ounce cans of CVS whole cashew nuts for $2.99 each, and a 9.5 ounce can of CVS deluxe mixed nuts for $2.99 each for $17.94 total. 

I then sat out for a brief while downtown.  I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  It was not very busy downtown.  I then returned home.  I used my cart to bring up my groceries, and I put them away.  Before I went out earlier, I threw out the garbage, and I picked up the mail.  The weather on the internet said we were suppose to have snow showers today and this evening, but it was clear and about 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside.

I will now have a cold slices of eye round of top round of beef and horseradish and Lea and Perrins Worcestershire sauce and steamed vegetable mixture with Smart Balance Spread and olive oil and watered down punch and green tea with truvia and lemon juice.  CIO

Note: <888> 03/03/10 Wednesday 12:35 A.M..  I ran a medium weight electrical wire from the Eton shortwave radio telescoping antenna to the metal ceiling grid to hopefully improve shortwave reception.  I used a paper clamp to secure the wire to the antenna, so it can be released easily for usage elsewhere.  At this time of day, I only get about a half dozen radio stations only on SW1 mostly Spanish or Religious.  I left it set slightly above 570 FM at WNPR which occasionally carries the BBC news broadcast to have available for quiet music listening in the apartment at quiet hours.  On FM, it is as clear as a bell.  Of course I have the wireless headphones connected to my entertainment system, but that might be more complicated to figure out on the spur of the moment.  CIO

Note: <888> 03/02/10 Tuesday 5:20 P.M..  I woke up while sleeping, and I ate a Kaiser roll.  I finally woke up at 10 A.M., when I had a no person telephone call.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with olive oil, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes, and I made my bed.   I showered,  and  I cleaned up.  I chatted with a relative.  I went out, and I threw out the garbage.  I went downtown, and I sat out for a while.  I walked lower Greenwich Avenue.  I then went to my 3 P.M. appointment.  While waiting for my appointment, I finished reading New England magazine.  I chatted with a relative.

This traditional New England cottage is available for sale on the Atlantic ocean overlooking the Bush family Walker's Point compound for $2.8 million Kennebunkport Ocean Front Cottage Property details .  I think it belonged to a member of the Scarborough family who passed away recently.  Last summer it was for sale for $4.7 million.  It only has .69 acres.  It is next to the Cape Arundel Inn in one of Kennebunkport's loveliest neighborhoods.

After my appointment, I returned home, and I walked around the building, and they have done a few more windows on the west side.  I picked up my mail.  CIO

Note: <888> 03/01/10 Monday 10:20 P.M..  I went out after the last note.  I went by the A&P Fresh, and I bought fresh Chiquita bananas for .79 a pound for $1.86.  They have quite a few specials there.  I then went downtown, and I walked upper Greenwich Avenue first, and I picked up a prescription at CVS.  I then used the bathroom at the Senior and the Arts center, and then I walked lower Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  It was not too busy out tonight.  The little Italian restaurant just north of Richards department store seemed busy though as was the restaurant on the corner of Grigg street and Greenwich Avenue.  After my walk, I went by the Greenwich Library, and I chatted with one of the staff, and I used the bathroom.  I then went by the Greenwich Automotive Services Gulf Station, and I bought $7 of self service premium for $3.319 a gallon for 2.108 gallons for 25.3 miles driving since a week ago Saturday at odometer reading of 65570 miles for 12.002 miles per gallon.  I then cleaned the outside windows, and I checked the tires all around for 32 PSI.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 16 ounce package of Smart Balance spread for $2.99, a half gallon of Tropicana orange juice with calcium for $3, and a top round eye round roast for $3.49 a pound for $10.99 for $16.98 total.  I then returned home, and I also brought up the mail, and I put away my groceries.  I chatted with a relative.  The relative has a cold, and suggested that I should wash my hands with antibacterial soap after visiting the grocery store which I did.  CIO
