Merry Christmas 2009 and Happy New Years 2010,
Another year has gone by swiftly. I have continued to spend most of my free time working with personal computers and the internet this past year. I am currently running 10 computers in my apartment. I recently configured a faster laptop computer. I was able to get away this summer for three 2 week periods up in Kennebunkport, Maine to visit with relatives. The family is doing well, and we have a family wedding next June in Kennebunkport, Maine. Greenwich, Connecticut appears to be surviving the recession, and the downtown area has a number of new buildings. It is still an enjoyable exercise walk and one can always enjoy people watching. I am close to 220 pounds, so I hope to lose some weight in the upcoming year. I also plan to try to quit smoking cigarettes some time soon. I was visited recently by a few old friends, and they seem to enjoy coming out to Greenwich for the day to explore the back country areas. My web site pretty much says it all about what I am doing, but I realize not everyone has time to be technically savvy with personal computers. I only drove about 3,500 miles this past year with three trips to Kennebunkport, so I am doing my part to save energy. I continue to keep a cooler apartment in the winter, but in the summer I need to use quite a bit of air conditioning. I did not make it out to the beach this summer in Greenwich, but I managed to keep busy in the downtown area. We seem to have quite a large number of foreign residents living in town anymore, and I do not have the language skills to communicate with them all, but I do my best. Although I watch Fox News quite a bit, I do not have time to keep track of politics, since I am so busy on my computer activities. After 20 years of personal computer activity, I pretty much know what I am doing on a limited budget. I hear from friends in Manhattan about what is going on there, but I prefer the quieter life in the country. When I have time, I occasionally try to read computer magazines in the Greenwich Library. I am still cooking all my meals at home, so that probably accounts for my weight gain along with the many trips to the grocery store. The local community now seems to have more people my age of 59 taking earlier retirement. There no longer seems to be very much air traffic at nearby Westchester airport, so I guess business travel has decreased. I try to network, but it always seems the younger generation has a different experience back ground, so I frequently wait to see what comes next. I stay in touch with relatives, and we spend a good deal of time talking about household routines. I figure with the recent recession and economic depression, we all have to cut back, but it gives us more time for simpler routines. Hopefully the economy might pick up sometime soon, but I am prepared for the long run, and I feel at my age, I should work on my health, and not worry as much about the computers. I also try to get my share of rest. I feel the younger generation is starting to take over, and although they seem well educated, they have different shared experiences. In the colder weather this winter, I hope to get out more on clear days for walks, but I will have to wait to see how I can handle the colder weather. My 12 year old Audi A6 only has 65,000 miles on it, so I have very good transportation. I rarely drive outside of this area, since there is so much traffic in the area, I feel safer staying local. With the internet, I can do my shopping easy enough particularly for computer parts. My apartment tends to be over flowing with various items, so I have been staying away from the local thrift shops. Although my computers are older equipment, they still take quite a bit of maintenance, so I am frequently busy working on them. Besides beta testing, I have them set up for different purposes. I have a well run home office, and after 20 years of working on it, I intend to continue to maintain and run it, despite some of the local gurus who just read the local printed press. I learned how to type over 45 years ago, so I obviously know how to input into my internet web activity. Although I subscribe to a number of printed publications, I have not had time to read them in the last few months. I guess there is so much content on the internet, most people might find my web activity tedious, but it reflects what I am doing based on my experience. A writer is always supposed to write from their own experience. Once again Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
