Note: <888> 06/30/03  Monday 11:55 P.M.:  I put away the laundry.  I had 14 Carr's crackers with cracked pepper with my homemade hummus.  The relative I talked to told me that one could also use cans of pitted black olives to make hummus or I guess one could add it to my recipe increasing the ingredients proportionately.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/30/03  Monday 10:30 P.M.:  I went out after the last message, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I checked out a DVD video disk.  I then returned home.  I am on the dry cycle on my laundry with about a half hour to go.  I put clean linens on the bedroom bed.  I chatted with a friend and a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/30/03  Monday 6:55 P.M.:  I made up the hummus, and it tastes quite good, but it is a bit spicy, so I added the word "optional" in front of the cayenne red pepper and the McIlhenny Co. Tabasco pepper sauce ingredients.  Of course the hotter flavor might taste good with a cold beverage.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/30/03  Monday 6:10 P.M.:  I came up with this hummus recipe http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/hummus.htm .  I will now try making it.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/30/03  Monday 5:30 P.M.:  I watched television before going to bed about 2:30 A.M. this past morning.  I had a peanut butter sandwich too.  I was up at 11 A.M., and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I emptied my trash cans.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I went by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  They have a lot of quality furniture there including a $4,500 new Baker Furniture sofa  and chairs set in a dark blue color.  I next went downtown, and I sat out for a half hour.  It was a bit warm, so I did not bother walking.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the ELDC thrift shop in Cos Cob, and I toured the shop.  They have quite a few tennis rackets there.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  I then went by the Food Emporium, and I bought four half gallons of Florida Natural orange juice with calcium for $2 each, four 29 ounce cans of Goya premium chick peas or garbanzos beans for $1.19 each, a 1.25 ounce jar of McCormick Gourmet collection of ground coriander seed for $3.99, a 1.5 ounce jar of McCormick Gourmet collection of  ground cumin $4.19, and a 1.75 ounce jar of McCormick gourmet collection ground Cayenne Red Pepper for $3.59, and a bulb of garlic at $2.99 a pound for .48  for $25.01 total.  I then returned home, and I used my grocery cart to bring up my purchases.  I then had two tuna fish sandwiches with ice tea.  I now have the ingredients to make homemade hummus http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/hummus/ .  I will now study some hummus recipes to figure out my own recipe.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 11:20 P.M.:  I finished off the container of Edy's whole fruit raspberry sorbet.  I will try to stay on an earlier schedule, so I will shut down the computer now, and I will watch some television briefly before going to bed.  I had a idea today that I mentioned to a cyclist today.  I have heard that they make light weight bicycles out of titanium http://www.deanusa.com/ and http://www.racingbikes.com  and http://www.titusti.com/ , and I guess one could increase performance by having kevlar tires.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 11:00 P.M.:  I was told by a local in Kennebunkport, Maine http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm that this past winter was particularly severe in Kennebunkport, and they had icebergs along the waterfront in Kennebunkport.  The ocean water temperature when I was up there this past weekend was 62 degrees Fahrenheit.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 10:45 P.M.:  When I visited South Portland, Maine, we stopped by the Christmas store.  I sat out briefly, and I chatted with a retired person from Florida.  We compared notes on Florida.  The retired person from Florida told me he lived on the most alligator infested lake in Florida.  He did not give me the name, but it must be Lake Okeechobee.  The retired person from Florida also told me that Vero Beach, Florida has a very strong rip tide.  He also mentioned that the Ponce Inlet at the south side of Daytona Beach, Florida and north of New Smirna Beach, Florida was probably one of the most shark infested waters in Florida.  I use to fish there in the winter of 1979, and I did see quite a few sharks along the shoreline at Canaveral National Seashore.  I got to thinking if one were a recluse, one could run a chicken ranch on Lake Okeechobee and feed some chickens to the gators everyday to keep away the gators, and people would probably avoid the area, since the gators would be around.  However, I do not really know that much about gators, and maybe they would keep on feeding until they ate the owner of the chicken ranch.  Thus being a hermit there might not be as secure as one thinks.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 9:55 P.M.:  I emailed John Cosby at www.cosbystudio.com about the picture that I took up to the relative's in Kennebunkport, Maine to find out its location and the hotel.  While up at Kennebunkport at my relative's I had snacks before dinner of crackers with hummus which were quite good.  If one has a food processor, one can make one's own hummus http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/hummus/ with these recipes, and I guess one should study www.fatfree.com also.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 8:20 P.M.:  I chatted with a friend.  I chatted with a relative.  I installed the Google Toolbar in my Internet Explorer Web Browser http://toolbar.google.com/ .  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 7:05 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  I moved the small oil painting of white flowers in a vase with an ornate gold frame from the right wall above my bedroom bed to the centered position beneath the Bermuda picture.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 6:20 P.M.:  I took a cold six ounce can of 3 Diamonds crab meat, and I opened the lid, and then I left the lid on, and I rinsed it in cold water several times squeezing out the cold water, and then I flaked it in a bowl, and I added two large tablespoons of Hellmann's Just2Good low fat mayonnaise, and I mixed it together, and then I used four slices of Arnold's soft 12 grain bread, and I made two sandwiches which I cut in half across.  I had the two crab meat sandwiches for dinner with ice tea.  Today is the 20th Anniversary of the Mianus River Bridge collapsing according to the http://www.greenwichtime.com/ .  When that happened, I was fortunate to be working as a dishwasher at the Languedoc restaurant across the street from the Jared Coffin House in Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, so I was not directly affected by that disaster, until I came off Nantucket that following December, and I returned to Greenwich once the bridge had been temporarily repaired.  They worked for about the next ten years rebuilding the bridge.  The owner of the moveable highway barricade machine that was used to change lanes while under construction was from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and he once bought me dinner of Bouillabaisse at the old Showboat Hotel on the waterfront which is now the Delamar  http://www.thedelamar.com/ five star hotel.  That was about 11 years ago, when I was first getting on computers, and I chatted about computers.  I was encouraged to stick with computers, so that means they were working on repair the Mianus River Bridge for at least ten years after it collapsed.  Since I was in Nantucket, I missed all the traffic, but supposedly Greenwich has never recovered from all the new people whom got off the highway to discover the town, when they would have ordinarily passed us by on I-95.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 5:40 P.M.:  I went out, and I walked most of the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  The Greenwich Hardware store at their 70% off rack in front has a $170 Krups coffee system used once that would be about $52 plus tax.  I stopped by CVS, and I bought two two packs of European Mystique shampoo and conditioner for $1.59 each two pack, a 1.5 liter bottle of CVS yellow mouthwash for $4.19, a package from the 50% off rack of 25 cotton business envelopes for $2.25, a 7 ounce can of CVS sensitive skin shave gel $1.89, from the 50% off rack a 10 ounce bottle of A1 Steak sauce $2.40, and also from the 50% off rack four six ounce cans of Geisha crab meat for $1.25 each plus .69 tax for $19.60 total.  I was completing my walk down Greenwich Avenue, when I ran into a regular walker in front of the coffee shop where Katzenbacs is going in, so I walked with that walker over to Christ Church carrying my purchases.  I was then given a ride back in that walker's car to my car downtown.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I next drove over to Tod's Point, and I sat out at the southwest parking area.  I then went to the southeast parking area, and I used the restroom, and I had a drink from the water fountain.  I then removed my antenna from the Hyundai by unscrewing it.  I then went to the Express Car wash in Old Greenwich, and I had the car washed for $5.  I towel dried the car, and I shook out the driver's floor mat, and I reinstalled the antenna.  I then drove by the Greenwich Library, and I read today's Greenwich Times.  I next went by Exxon next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $8.50 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.739 a gallon for about 37 miles per gallon.  I then returned home.  I am having a glass of ice tea, and I will now put away my purchases.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 11:30 A.M.:  I will now shut down the computer.  I will clean up, and I will go out for some daytime activity.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 11:20 A.M.:  While in Kennebunkport a distant relative sent to the relative I was visiting information on my father's mother's family, the Gard family Gard Family .  Apparently they were French Huguenots who came from France with the name De Gard and had settled in England, and then in 1634 settled in York, Maine.  Thus I might have some distant relatives still up in Maine.  I have driven by York, Maine for 25 years going to Kennebunkport, Maine, but I never have really checked it out, other than going to the discount outlets in Kittery, Maine.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/29/03  Sunday 11:10 A.M.:  I watched television until 2 A.M..  I had two scoops of Edy's raspberry sorbet.  I was up at 10 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/28/03  Saturday 8:05 P.M.:  I was up this past Tuesday morning at 7:30 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I cleaned up, and I finished backing my toiletries.  I packed the Hyundai.  I left at 9:45 A.M..  I drove west from Byram on the U.S. 1, West Putnam Avenue, to King Street in Port Chester, New York.  I drove up King Street to the Westchester County airport, where I got on I-684 East.  I stopped for a smoke at the  Croton Falls rest area.  I then drove east on I-84 East, and I ran into a construction slow down for about 20 minutes in Waterbury, Connecticut.  I stopped at the rest area in Southington, Connecticut, and I had a smoke and used the bathroom, and I drank water from the water fountain.  I continued east on I-84 East, and I stopped at a rest area around Vernon, Connecticut, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and I drank from the water fountain.  I finished traveling the length of Connecticut, and I got on the Massachusetts turnpike east.  I stopped at the first rest area, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and I drank from the water fountain.  I filled up at the Exxon pumps at $1.539 a gallon for $4.60 of gasoline or about 48 miles per gallon.  I then drove to the next exit for I-290 East, and I paid a .50 toll, and I continued east on I-290 East to I-495 East, and I took another rest break just west of Lowell, Massachusetts, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and I drank from the water fountain.  I continued east on I-495 East to I-95 North.  I paid a $1 toll, as it continued to be the New Hampshire turnpike.  I stopped at the rest area, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and I drank from the water fountain.  I then paid a $1.50 toll at the beginning of the Maine turnpike.  I exited the Maine turnpike at the Wells Ogunquit exit.  I drove down to U.S. 1.  Right at U.S. 1, I had the car washed for $7 and a dollar tip.  I spot dried the car, and I had another smoke.  I then drove north into Kennebunkport, Maine, and I drove to my relative's house.  I was happy to see the relative.  I unloaded the car.  I put the Pacific ocean picture by Cosby in the living room.  I chatted with my relative.  I also took the two 50 foot hoses and spray nozzle attachments out of the back of the Hyundai, and I gave them to the relative.  The relative had to go out for a party, so I fixed a dinner of sole stuffed with crab meat dressing and two ears of corn and cold water.  I went for a drive along the Kennebunkport waterfront to Cape Purpose.  I stopped by Bradbury's grocery in Cape Porpoise, and I bought a half gallon of Tropicana orange juice with calcium for $3 and a 18 ounce container of Quaker old fashioned oatmeal for $2.18 for $5.18 total.  I then drove downtown to Kennebunkport.  One can park around the Post Office street for an hour for free.  I walked across the Kennbunkport River, and I checked out the grocery store there.  I then returned to the gift shop at the second store on the south side of the street just east of the bridge, and I bought an Energizer disk battery LR-44 for $3.18 with tax.  I then returned to my car, and I put the new battery in my dash board clock and set it.  I then returned back to my relatives, and we chatted until at 10:30 P.M., when I went to bed.  I was up about 7 A.M. in the morning on Wednesday, and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I helped the relative with some minor chores like sweeping the deck.  I hung the Cosby Pacific ocean painting or print in the living room above the primary sofa on the south wall with two 100 pound 3 nail Ook hooks.  It looks very well, since the colors are similar.  I took some pictures of my relative.  I went for a drive to the Kennebunk beach and waterfront with my relative.  My relative got an oil change at the Sunoco station.  We had lunch at a downtown Kennebunk lobster restaurant.  I had a whole picked lobster Caesar salad and ice tea.  We went by the hardware store for hooks.  We returned back to my relatives, and I then went out by the Colony Hotel beach for a while.  I then drove by Walker's Point, and I took four photographs at a distance.  I then drove around another waterfront location, and I then went downtown Kennebunkport, and I walked around.   I then returned to my relative's.  We chatted a while.  We had dinner of halibut baked in vermouth with corn and mixed salad and cranberry drink.  We had mixed fruit for desert.  We chatted a while, and we watched a bit of television.  I went to bed about 11 P.M., and I was up at 8 P.M. on Thursday.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went downtown Kennebunkport to the drugstore, and I bought an 8 ounce bottle of Coppertone number 30 sunscreen for $11.12 total.  I then went out to the Colony Hotel beach, and I sat on my CVS lounge chair, and I sunbathed for 2 and a half hours until about 1 P.M..  I had to walk over the Colony Hotel pool to use a spigot to wash some sunscreen out of my eyes since when one perspires, it runs into one's eyes, and it stings.  I then drove around the back road adjacent to the waterfront road in Kennebunkport, and I returned to downtown Kennebunkport parking at the free parking at the post office street.  I then went to the coffee shop, and I had an iced coffee for $1.87 and .38 tip for $2.25 total.  I sat out for a while in downtown Kennebunkport, and the flower bed in the center of town has 350 in yellow flowers to mark the 350th anniversary of Kennebunkport.  I walked around downtown for a while.  I then returned home.  I chatted with my relative.  I relaxed on the deck a while.  I had a roast beef sandwich for lunch.  I had dinner of swordfish with broccoli and small potatoes and mixed salad and shrimp and cold water.  We drove down by the beach.  I chatted with my relative and watched some television in the evening, and I went to bed about 11 P.M..  I was up at 9 A.M. on Friday, and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  My relative, and I drove up to South Portland, Maine on U.S. 1.  We stopped at the Christmas store, and we went to T.J. Maxxs.  We went by Home Depot in Biddeford, Maine, and we stopped by Shaw's supermarket there too.  We returned back to Kennebunkport, and we stopped by Chick's lobster store, and my relative bought me a lobster roll.  I had a lobster roll for lunch with shrimp and rice cakes and cranberry flavor drink.  I went downtown briefly before it started raining, and  at the Big Apple filling station, I bought a package of Marlboro Ultra Lights 100s for $4.15 and $6 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.539 a gallon for about 35 miles per gallon.  I took a nap.  We had dinner of baked haddock in vermouth with Old Bay Seasoning, asparagus, mixed salad, and water.  We drove down by the beach and around the waterfront.  I chatted some more with my relative.  I packed.  I went to bed about 11:30 P.M..  I was up at 7 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, and supplements.  After cleaning up, I put my items in the car.  I thanked my relative for the hospitality, and I said good bye.  I left at about 10 A.M..  I drove out of Kennebunkport to Wells where I got on the Maine turnpike south.  I paid the $1.50 toll for the Maine turnpike, and the $1 toll for the New Hampshire turnpike.  Just before I-495 on I-95 south, I stopped at the Massachusetts welcome center, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and drank from the water fountain.  I got on I-495 West, and just west of Lowell, I stopped at the rest area.  I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and drank from the water fountain.  I continued west on I-495 West to I-290 West to the Massachusetts turnpike west.  I stopped at the rest area, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and drank from the water fountain.   I bought at the Exxon pumps $5 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.539 a gallon for about 43 miles per gallon. I cleaned my windshield.  I continued to the next exit for I-84 West to New York, and I paid the .50 toll.  I then just before the Connecticut border stopped at a picnic area for a smoke that had no facilities.  I then about 10 miles into Connecticut stopped at the Connecticut welcome center, and I had a smoke, used the bathroom, and drank from the water fountain.  I then continued to head west across the state on I-84 West into New York state and then to I-684 West.  Around Bedford, New York after a long time, I used the rest area, had a smoke, went to the bathroom, and used the water fountain.  There were no rest areas from the eastern Connecticut welcome center to Bedford, New York.  I exited I-684 West at Exit 2 for the Westchester County airport, and I drove down King Street and turned left after the Merritt parkway down to Glenville and down Weaver Street and back by my apartment building.  Thus stopping at all the rest areas each way, it took six hours and 15 minutes each way.  I drove over to Smokes for Less in Byram, and I bought a carton of Seneca Ultra Lights 100s for $31 total.  I then went by the Arnold Bread outlet, and I bought two loaves of Arnold 12 grain soft at $1.29 a loaf for $2.58 total.  I then returned home.  I carried up my belongings from the Hyundai.  I turned back on the air conditioner.  I chatted with a relative.  I started making www.geocities.com/mikelscott/icetea.htm .  I finished unpacking.  I hung the old Bermuda waterfront picture at the bedroom entrance above the  bedroom bed where the Cosby pacific ocean picture had been.  I put the picture of the Great Blue Heron on the back of the living room bureau at the bedroom entrance.  I chatted with another relative.  I had a 15.5 ounce box of Stouffer's stuffed peppers with ground beef and tomato sauce for dinner with ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/23/03  Monday 1:50 A.M.:  I went through my email.  I went through www.geocities.com/mikelscott/scotwork.htm .  I set the time on my JVC VCR, since it will now work automatically with the cablevision system like it is suppose to.  Maybe Cablevision quit sending the time signal.  I guess I will now shut down the computer.  I will probably watch some television before going to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/22/03  Sunday 11:35 P.M.:  I took the three halves of boneless breasts of chicken, and I rinsed them in cold water, and I dried them with a paper towel.  I then put them in a glass Pyrex pie dish, and I added about five tablespoons of La Choy low sodium soy sauce, three tablespoons of Borden lemon juice, a fourth of a cup of Rene Junot white wine, and I soaked both sides for a few minutes in the juice.  Then I rubbed a little extra virgin olive oil on the top sides, and I seasoned them with Old Bay seasoning, chicken and meat seasoning, garlic powder, ground black pepper, Italian spices, Basil, and Oregano.  I then peeled and diced six large cloves of garlic, and I put the diced garlic on the chicken.  I am cooking them in the Fareberware convection oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.  I will have one of them for dinner with the cooking juices on it along with steamed white rice with the cooking juices on it, and steamed fresh cauliflower with extra virgin olive oil, and a glass of ice tea.   It should be ready in about fifteen minutes.  I will refrigerate one portion with rice and juices, and I will freeze another similar serving.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/22/03  Sunday 9:25 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative about 9:30 A.M..  I went to bed, and I was up at 4 P.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I went by Whole Foods, and they have their usual display of quality merchandise at a bit higher price.  Cod was on sale at $5.99 a pound.  I bought a bulb of garlic at $2.99 a pound for .45.  They do not have large bags of Soy Chips, but the same ones as the Food Emporium for .24 less for $1.45 for 1.35 ounce bags of Glennys.  I then returned home.  I had a message from a relative.  I am on the wash cycle of two loads of laundry.  I put clean linens on the bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/22/03  Sunday 8:40 A.M.:  Well some good news on the closet front.  I relaxed a bit, and I finally decided to try to fix the bedroom closet shelf rod.  I took off two side support pieces from the top shelf in the hallway sweater closet.  I then removed the broken ones in the bedroom closet, and I installed the good ones.  I then took off two 10 inch by 1.75 inch by 3/8 inch hard wood pieces from a pants hanger.  I drilled two holes in one about six inches apart, and then I put the wood piece where the punched through wall hole was from the shelf bracket.  I then drilled through the wood to mark the holes in the wall.  I have a wall mount and screw and drill set I got at Odd Job, and I drilled larger holes into the wall to install two 3/8 inch wall mounts, and then I screwed the wood piece into the wall mounts.  I then secured the lower part of the shelf bracket by drilling a hole into the wood and fastening the shelf bracket with a screw.  The securing piece on the shelf above the bracket had broken, so I put the other piece of wood by the same method on the wall beneath the rear center edge of the shelf.  I then screwed a larger screw into the wood to support the weight of the rear part of the shelf. It still has four of the original rear securing pieces.  It seems as secure as it ever has been, and since it is hard wood, I doubt if it will split.  I then put in my hanging clothes.  I put away the items on the upper shelf.  I am still saving my slimmer clothes in hopes that some day, I might lose some weight.  I threw out in the dumpster an old box fan, some aquarium lights, a printer stand, a monitor stand, an old 486 motherboard, the Styrofoam from the Orion television box, a small blue fish bucket, an aquarium siphon, a throw rug, and I put some upholstery material and a orange bed dust ruffle in the car to donate to the Hospital Thrift shop.  I rehung the mirror in the bathroom.  I put the Marie Cascendas Polaroid horse pictures in the false ceiling above the bed.  I also threw in the paper recycling bin a large roll of industrial paper toweling.  Throwing out some of the items reduced the weight on the closet shelf, but the clothes still are a lot of weight.  It was all an unexpected task, so I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/22/03  Sunday 5:35 A.M.:  First the good news.  I ran Norton Win Doctor and Norton Disk Doctor.  I ran System restore, and I did a system backup.  I did a six part backup of the C: drive to the D: drive.  I ran Norton Speed Disk.  Now the bad news, while I was running Norton Speed Disk, there was a very loud banging noise from the bedroom.  I examined the bathroom, and the left side entrance wall mirror was pushed out from the wall.  I removed the mirror, and I saw the bedroom closet shelf center bracket had pushed through the wall.  I opened the bedroom closet, and the entire shelf rod assembly had collapsed.  I removed the contents of the bedroom closet to the bed which took a while.  The center support bracket for the bedroom closet shelf and rod assembly was only attached against the dry wall not a stud.  When it collapsed from weight through both sides of the dry wall, the support assembly on either end broke letting the entire assembly collapse forward.  It only sank on the right side, since on the left side, I had some old Styrofoam packed underneath it.  Also some of the backside retaining clips broke. I am tired now.  I guess, I will rest on the day bed since, the bedroom bed is completely covered with closet items.  I guess in the daytime, I could go to home depot and get a piece of lumber to put underneath the center shelf bracket and another pair of end support units and some back side shelf supports with the screws and wall board screw holders.  I probably should reinforce either end of the shelf assembly with strips of woods, since the end units were also screwed into sheet rock and possibly the back side.  Since the shelf hanging unit was about eight feet long, there were a lot of clothes hanging from it and quite a bit of weight on the shelf.  I did noticed quite a few items, I could also throw out.  However, being a pack rat and going to thrift shops for 17 years since I got my first car on this return to Greenwich, I have accumulated quite a bit of stuff.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will rest.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/22/03  Sunday 2:30 A.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I had a bit of stomach gas still.  It might be from the Hellmann's Just2Good mayonnaise.   Recently, I noticed that my refrigerator setting had been lowered from 3 to 1 which is about the warmest setting.  I do not know how it happened, but generally with the warmer setting, items like mayonnaise do not last as long.  Well I walked the full length of Greenwich Avenue.  It seems to have cleared up a bit for now.  I guess we might start considering building an arc like Noah did, but I think it is a little too late for that.  During my walk, I sat out at various locations.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I just now returned home, and I had a glass of ice tea.  It is 55 degrees Fahrenheit which seems a bit cool for this time of year, but alas despite the rain, I am enjoying the cooler temperatures after having spent a much colder winter.  I suppose if it stays this cool all summer, we might get some Canadians coming down to summer on our shores as opposed to Florida people coming up to cool off.  Anyway a friend flew up to Toronto, Canada today to look at some horses, so maybe he will put the word out.  Another friend whom is ever the optimist bought a 1993 SAAB convertible in mint condition with 45,000 miles on it for $10,500, so that friend must be hoping for sunny days.  Since I am more tuned to the information on the internet as it is reflected in relation to my year round experience in the community, I suppose I will continue my more mundane routines as far as maintaining my living environment.  Still, when it gets very cold in this area in the winter, it would be nice for the United States government which is forever consuming and producing energy to provide us with a little bit extra heating assistance at their expense.  Although, I am a die hard republican, I am beginning to think that old Texas expression applies in Washington D.C., "Drive Fast, Freeze a Yankee".  There is a northern version of that same expression from frugal Yankees in New Hampshire called, "Live Free or Die".   The New York version is the "Rich get Ricer, and the Poor get Poorer".  I suppose the British version of the same expression could be "Penny Thrifty and Pound Foolish".  The Greenwich, Connecticut version would be "Frugality and Fortune", and the general northern expression would be "Waste Not, Want Not."  So much for frugal hints from Michael on microeconomics.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 11:10 P.M.:  NOAA flash flood warnings are still going off for the area until 7 A.M..  I had two tuna fish sandwiches with ice tea.  I will now clean up, and I will go out and face the weather.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 10:45 P.M.:  I went to bed after the last message.  I had a call from a relative about 3 P.M..  I was up at 6:30 P.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I just finished house cleaning and watering the plants.  Locally we are having a lot of rain, and NOAA weather warning has gone off with Flash Flood warnings.  The conventional wisdom of waterfront observers around here is that when the pier on Steamboat Road is flooded at high tide which is very unusual, it also means that Manhattan is flooded.  Also we have dams in the back country reservoir system which probably need to be watched with all the rain that we have had.  Of course the last time, I checked our local dam off Lake Avenue a number of years ago, something heavy like a mountain lion jumped on the roof of my old Volvo.  Locally flooding along the waterfront is usually determined by the height of the tides, which are indicated at http://www.maineharbors.com/ct/tidectw.htm .  I noticed in the news today that the Union Pacific http://www.up.com/ had runaway freight cars on the east side of Las Angeles, California http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?c=&p=Union+Pacific .  Having spent time around railroads, these events do occasionally happen.  Judging from the news reports, they could clean up the spilt lumber by calling Waste Management http://www.wm.com/ which if it exists in California would have the heavy equipment for removing the spilt lumber.  Spilt lumber is always a fire hazard.  Another way would be to have general labor contractors remove the lumber piece by piece.  Of course the railroad would have to remove the freight cars.  I was once told the whole world is run by a little old lady in California that owns a vegetable patch, so she might be having problems getting products from the west coast to other destinations if it is main railroad line that is blocked.  Here locally when I do my house cleaning, I usually water the plants by pouring water into them from a quart container.  I then use Lysol Island Breeze cleaner in a spray bottle to clean the bathroom sink, toilet, and shower tub areas.  I use Ajax of Comet to clean the bath tub.  I spray the toilet with Lysol spray.  I dust the surfaces with a damp cloth in the bathroom, bedroom, living room, and kitchen.  I then clean the kitchen counters, dish rack,  cooking areas and sink with Lysol Island Breeze disinfectant from a spray bottle.  I empty the garbage and replace the plastic garbage bag.  I move some items of furniture and vacuum the apartment with the Hoover upright vacuum.  I clean and polish the glass and mirrors in the apartment with glass cleaner and paper towels.  I put a dilute mixture of Lysol Island Breeze cleaner with water in a bowl next to the air conditioner for scent control.  I do a bit of spot cleaning where ever it needs it.  It generally takes two and a half hours to three hours, but it weekly restores a bit of order to the apartment.  Actually, by other relatives' standard, I probably would be considered a slob, but it is a routine that is not to difficult, and I feel a sense of accomplishment, once it is done.  As I have said so many times before, when one starts spending so much time on the computer, a lot of other ordinary maintenance tends to fall to the way side as one becomes more and more preoccupied with the computer information and computer maintenance.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 1:00 P.M.:  I relaxed a bit.  I chatted with a relative.  I relaxed a bit.  Another relative called.  I went out, and I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I then went by Waldenbooks, and I had them ship the Harry Potter book that I bought last night to a relative.  They charged me $5.50 for shipping.  Waldenbooks only has reserved copies of the book left.  I then moved the car.  I then went by the Complete Kitchen, and I found they had 8 ounce white opaque plastic squeeze bottles for $1.99 each.  I bought two which with tax were $4.13 total.  I then returned home.  I put 4 ounces of the Carapelli extra virgin olive oil in one of the plastic bottles.  They do not have little lids for the tips, so I cut a small hole in the side of a wine bottle cork to seal the tip.  I am a bit tired, so I will now shut down the computer again, and I will go to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 7:15 A.M.:  I went back out, and I dropped the videotape off at the video drop at the Greenwich Library.  I then walked lower Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out for a while.  I walked the train station area too.  I then drove down by the waterfront and some of the usual fishermen were there.  They were not catching any fish.  I then sat out for a while more downtown.  I then stopped by the Shell Station on West Putnam Avenue, and I bought a Tee Time scratch card for a dollar.  I returned home, and I chatted with some neighbors.  I scratched the Tee Time scratch card, and I did not win anything, but it is suppose to benefit Connecticut education.  I was educated in Connecticut at some of the better private schools, and I have a college degree from Illinois, but after getting a college degree from Illinois after all these years, no one seems to understand what I am talking about since they do not have college degrees from Illinois.  Still, since they are locally educated, they seem to feel secure in their native environments.  Still, Illinois is a bit colder than Connecticut, and I guess so far it is cooler this summer, so maybe it will be a colder winter, so having experienced Illinois winters for four years, I should be able to survive another winter in Connecticut.  If one looks at Sun Valley, Idaho weather.com - Local Weather Page Sun Valley, Idaho where this local Harriman political network use to vacation, it is 29 degrees there right now, so I guess if it gets too cold here for the locals, and they all head south of the border, we can always import people from Sun Valley, Idaho and the surrounding areas or even from French Canada, but who knows what the weather will be until it happens.  The United States government spends billions of dollars a year on weather information, but they never seem to get it together with all these super computers, they have to put out a long term weather forecast, and leave us to rely on Benjamin Franklin's "Old Farmer's Almanac" The Old Farmer's Almanac - Home Page .  However, before the Harriman's spent all of their money, they supposedly according to the book on W. Averill Harriman took care of all the things, the Rockefeller's did not want to be bothered with like running the World's largest transportation network of railroads, ships, and airlines.  Thus with their reduced fortunes, they are probably left with an old plow horse on some farm that is getting worn out and can not afford to travel out of this area to former family resorts.  Anyway for anyone going to Sun Valley, Idaho for cooler temperatures, I use to know an Idaho sheriff that was retired here, and he retired here because, he got tired of dealing with cougars.  Well anyway in wild America, there are plenty of people awake in the daytime, so if one stays in areas around lots of people, one should not have to worry too much about the wildlife.  Well, I am tired, so I will shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 4:25 A.M.:  I went through my email.  I did some other computer work.  I have to return a videotape that is due.  My email of my weekly notes goes out to 18 recipients, but the last mailing which includes two emails to the BBC keeps getting bounced back, so maybe there is something wrong with the BBC or its email servers.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 3:25 A.M.:  For any visitors unfamiliar with the north country whom might be visiting in this area, I have a bit of local wisdom.  Since we are near the mountainous ridge area in this area, a lot of migratory animals like wild cats such as Mountain Lions or Cougars or Bob Cats or Lynx or Panthers could be migrating from down south through this area now later in the season since it is cooler this year.  I still keep Sir Walter Raleigh pipe tobacco in my apartment.  I have a theory since the package of Sir Walter Raleigh pipe tobacco has black and orange colors like a tiger that it might be derived from the tobacco they use to grow in India in the old days with Tiger Scent from tiger urine in it from the fields that it is grown in, so that when other cats smelled it when a human was smoking it, they would smell the tiger scent in the tobacco, and thus the other cats would shy away from disturbing the pipe smoker.  However, this is just a theory, I have yet to try it out on other wild cats.  Still, it would seem to be logical that other wild cats would be leery of tiger scent.  In Greenwich, at Zyn stationary, they use to sell Sir Walter Raleigh pipe tobacco, and they might know since they are from India.  Of course locally here, I mostly see just skunks which could be just as bad.  In which case one would need tomato juice to help remove the smell if one were sprayed.  I heard a local lady complaining the other day that while her child was swimming at Tod's Point, a two foot long tiger shark bothered the child, so remember that Tiger Sharks can get up to 20 feet long too, and I have no idea how big they get in Long Island sound, but people at the Norwalk, Connecticut aquarium would know.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 3:10 A.M.:  On a lesser note on another Scottish activity besides writing books the Buick Classic http://www.golfweb.com/tournaments/r027/ is presently going on at the Westchester Country Club in nearby Harrison, New York.  Usually after the event, some of the local Buick dealers have low mileage Buicks for sale which were used during the tournament.  A friend still owns one from the tournament 11 years ago that he bought after the tournament, but alas he is not in the market yet for a new car, since the old Buick wagon is still in good running shape after all of these years.  He does keep complaining that Buick should still make a large station wagon like they did then.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/21/03  Saturday 2:55 A.M.:  I rested until 4 P.M. yesterday.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I slept some more until 6:15 P.M..  I watched the ABC evening news.  I cleaned up, and went out.  I went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I then drove over to the Riverside Shopping Plaza, and I toured the Food Emporium looking for a plastic squeeze bottle.  I then looked for one at CVS in the Riverside Shopping Plaza.  I then returned downtown.  I walked upper Greenwich Avenue, and I noticed people lined up in front of Waldenbooks for the "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" book by J. K. Rowling launching at midnight.  I returned back to the car, and I drove back down by the waterfront.  I then parked near Waldenbooks, and I viewed the people buying the book starting at midnight.  Over the next hour about 200 people bought the book, and there were many young faces.  I was about the last to buy a copy of the book for $20.77 plus $1.26 sales tax for $22.25 total.  There was a .22 error in the sales slip, it must have been wizardry or a charge for the bag.  I then went by the Food Emporium, and I bought a package of boneless breasts of chicken for $1.99 a pound for $3.66. They have the Harry Potter book there for $24.99 plus wizard tax.  I returned home.  I rinsed the other piece of swordfish in cold water, and I put it in a Pyrex pie dish.  I added a few tablespoons of Borden's lemon juice and about a third of a cup of Rene Junot white wine.  I placed both sides in the juices for a while.  On the top side, I added a couple teaspoons of extra virgin olive oil, and then I seasoned it with Old Bay seasoning, ground black pepper, Italian spices, basil, and oregano.  I cooked it in the Farberware convection oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 22 minutes.  I had it for dinner with the fish cooking juices on the swordfish along with the juices on reheated steamed white rice, and steamed fresh cauliflower with extra virgin olive oil, and a glass of ice tea.  When I drive up to Kennebunkport, Maine www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm on this coming Tuesday morning, I will bring the Harry Potter book and the Pacific Ocean painting by Cosby that I have hanging in my bedroom to give to a relative.  Cosby has a gallery in Laguna Beach, California and he is a well known California artist whom before his art career was President Richard Nixon's communications officer in his White House days.  CIO

End of Scott's Notes week of 06/20/03:

Note: <888> 06/20/03  Friday 12:25 A.M.:  I finished going through my email.  I went through www.geocities.com/mikelscott/scotwork.htm .  I also finally installed the Windows Update for Windows XP of Q811493 which has been fixed, and the system seems a bit more responsive.  I will now send out my weekly notes.  I will then shut down the computer, and I will watch a bit of television before going to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/19/03  Thursday 11:45 P.M.:  This link tells one about Google http://www.google-watch.org/ .  Of course for readers whom have the time to research more scholarly information on computer information collecting, I suppose James Bamford's book, "Body of Secrets" would be about the best resource available

http://archive.salon.com/books/review/2001/04/25/nsa/print.html .  I have not had time to read it yet, although I did read about 40% of the Puzzle Palace.  Still in intelligence gathering, it frequently requires individuals whom have the educational back ground to understand the intelligence which might be generally more expensive to employ than the equipment, since such individuals in the private sector would earn more money.  Thus I suppose the law of supply and demand applies to brains and then limits individuals once they are in the public sector as they interface with the private sector.  Thus whom knows what the governments do with all the intelligence data in their collective data bases.  I suppose, they need a lot of little old lady types whom do nothing but read all the time.  I once read the CIA spends a great deal of its time on statistical analysis as opposed to covert operations.  Anyway computers help feed all the information into a usable form, but whether the reality of myth versus fiction comes into play is really of no significance, since whether a group of intelligence analysts have a budget to act upon the information they gather is even another matter.  At the moment, the United States Army is supposedly short two divisions, so I would imagine the government is not wasting its money on overseeing too much redundant data information.  If such were the case, since most of this technology seems to be manufactured in Asia, and since the wage rates are very low in Asia, it would seem to me that the Asian countries would put up the biggest smoke screen of intelligence deception for their own amusement, and whether it actually yielded any results or not is open to speculation .  CIO

Note: <888> 06/19/03  Thursday 8:30 P.M.:  I was up at 12:30 P.M. today.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with raspberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I cleaned up, and I went out for my 3 P.M. appointment.  I then went by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I next went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I was given a Dunlop Max 300i graphite injection tennis racket and a AMF Voit impact XC racquet ball racket.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  During my walk, I stopped by the Greenwich Hardware store, and I bought a Stanley scraper with five spare blades for $2.99 plus .18 tax for $3.17 total.  I scraped of the emissions sticker off my Hyundai windshield which is no longer needed.  I will put the scraper in the half size blue kitchen bureau drawer.  I next went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  The broken wooden benches in front of the Greenwich Library were caused by a car running over the curb.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought frozen swordfish at $4.99 a pound for $6.19,  a head of Cauliflower for $1.99, a 15 ounce bottle of La Choy lite soy sauce $2.39 for $10.57 total.  I looked for a plastic squeeze bottle to put olive oil in at both the Stop and Shop and the Food Emporium, but neither store had them.  I returned home.  I chatted with a friend.  I put the rackets in the right living room closet with the other rackets.  I do not have any tennis balls.  I cut the sword fish in half, and I refrigerated one half in a Rubbermaid container.  I rinsed the other half in cold water, and I put it in a Pyrex pie dish. I had it for dinner with the fish cooking juices on the swordfish along with the juices on steamed white rice, and steamed fresh cauliflower with extra virgin olive oil, and a glass of ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 11:50 P.M.:  Well, I will shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  I think the olive oil that I threw out was Bertolli http://www.bertolli.com/ regular olive oil that I bought on June 12, 2001 for $9.99 for 101 ounces at the Stop and Shop, and I opened it February 5, 2002.  I keep my Scott's Notes for remembering such details.  Of course the olive oil on the dining table might have been older, since I can not recall when I put it out on the table.  On my new diet I am using more olive oil.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 11:20 P.M.: Old time Olivetti http://www.olivetti.com/ computer users might remember Carlo De Benedetti . http://www.cirgroup.it/eng/e_gruppo/e_missione.html shows what he is up to today at http://www.cirgroup.it/ .  He is sort of like the Louis V. Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 10:55 P.M.:  I figured out what the problem was with the olive oil.  I had mistakenly used the olive oil from a liter wine bottle that I keep for decoration on my dining room table.  This might have been over three years old or more.  I had mixed some of it with a smaller bottle that I keep olive oil in.  I dumped out the old olive oil and the olive oil I mixed.  I still have about 2 liters left in the original tin of the three liters of Carapelli http://www.carapelli.com/  extra virgin olive oil which I bought on October 6, 2002 at the Food Emporium on sale for $13 off for $7.99.  I think it is still good since it has been in a dark sealed tin and has a nutty taste and smell.  I looked at this web site http://www.oliveoilsource.com/  for olive oil storage information http://www.oliveoilsource.com/olivechemistry.htm#Storage: .  I cleaned out the two olive oil containers and the tin olive oil dispenser that is not air tight.  I will put several ounces in the smaller Forrelli olive oil bottle, and I will refill it when I need it.  I guess I could look for a smaller dark sealed olive oil container, so the smaller amount will not oxidize.   I threw out the old olive oil along with an old bottle of canola oil.  Additional information at this site too http://www.bulkoil.com/ .  Of course if one wants to take what real fresh extra virgin olive oil tastes like, one might have to go to Italy, Spain, Greece, or Turkey.  That liter of olive oil I threw out in a pickle jar was probably enough to give intestinal gas to the entire Mediterranean population.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 8:40 P.M.:  I chatted with a friend.  I have had a bit of stomach gas recently causing me to break wind a lot.  I finally figured out on my new diet, I have been using olive oil on my vegetables instead of margarine.   Unfortunately, the olive oil I have, I bought in a three liter can about a year ago, and I guess it is rancid according to a friend who dined with me last Sunday.  Well, I will have to toss out the old olive oil and look around for a bottle of extra virgin olive oil.  It was on sale at Odd Job in Port Chester when I was there a couple of days ago for about $3 for a 24 ounce bottle, but if it were older, I would have the same problem with it being rancid.  I will have to check the grocery store circulars to see if it is on sale elsewhere.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 7:35 P.M.:  Old time hint.  If you want your Internet Explorer web browser to open in full screen, maximize it with the upper right middle icon, and they press CTRL-Y combination, and the next time you open Internet Explorer, it will be full screen.  You can imagine all the other network and system trivia I probably still remember, but do not have much chance to use anymore.  I had thought about getting a USB 2.0 external drive to back up my system, but I just backed up the data to CD/RW.  Thus should the primary and the backup hard drives fail at the same time, I would have to restore it by reconstructing it, which would probably take a week or so.  Let's hope not, but an electrical surge from lightning would possibly knock out both hard drives.  Still, since the second D: drive is rarely used, it will more than likely out last the primary hard drive.  Last week a 40 gigabyte external USB 2.0 hard drive was on sale at CompUSA down from $160 with $30 instant and $30 mail in rebate, it would have been eventually about $100, but instead I got the 13 inch Panasonic color television for $93.  Well, let's hope I made the right decision.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 4:45 P.M.:  I watched some television.  I did some regular computer work.  The Greenwich Hospital Outpatient Clinic called, and my new cholesterol blood levels with fasting 12 hours before the test are Cholesterol 140, Triglycerides 179, HDL 35, LDL 69, Ratio 4.0 and my liver with taking the Lipitor is normal.  I called a relative to tell them the results.  I guess when taking cholesterol tests, it is important to fast at least 12 hours before the test.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/18/03  Wednesday 2:45 P.M.:  I watched television until 2:30 A.M. this morning.  I was up at 8:30 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.   I cleaned up, and I went out.  I made my 10:30 A.M. dental appointment at the Greenwich Hospital dental clinic.  I had my teeth cleaned.  The hygienist recommended that when I use the Water Pik that I first use undiluted yellow mouthwash in the Water Pik to clean the left rear lower molar which has a crown, since it is a bit sensitive, and possibly has minor infection.  I have a follow up appointment on July 11 to see the dentist about my x-ray results.  I normally brush my teeth with Crest multicare whitening toothpaste.  Then I sometimes use the Braun Oral B tooth cleaner with whitening toothpaste such as Pearl Drops.  I then use the Water Pik with yellow mouthwash about one to two ounces with six ounces of water.  Now I will also use direct yellow mouth wash with the Water Pik to clean my lower left rear molar with the crown.  I then use dental floss.  I then gargle with yellow mouth wash.  One can also take a couple of sunflower oil breath pills too.  One could also carry one of those aerosol breath sprays.  However, if one smokes tobacco, one's breath is still going to smell like an old cigar butt from the flem build up in the lungs.  Also if one eats garlic for other health purposes, more than likely non garlic eaters will find one's breath offensive.  I was told that instead of brushing after dinner, it is better to brush before going to bed.  I next went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I then went by the Merry-Go-Round Mews thrift shop.  They still have clothes deeply discounted on sale.  They have a lot of nice summer sports jackets size 42 and smaller for $8.  I next returned home.  I had a message to call the outpatient clinic about my cholesterol test, so I called them back, and they will call me back later this afternoon.  I rinsed a six ounce can of Council crab meat in cold water with the open lid on it.  I then squeezed the lid on it several times while rinsing to squeeze out the water.  I then flaked it in a bowl, and I added two heaping tablespoons of Hellmann's low fat Just-2-Good mayonnaise, and I mixed it together.  I then made two sandwiches with the Arnold Healthy multi-grain bread, and I cut them in half crosswise.  I had them for lunch with ice tea.  I will now do some regular computer work.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/16/03  Monday 11:10 P.M.:  Well as the story goes when the land between England and France went under water many thousands of years ago, they were known as the Flemish from Flanders.  Since the land of Flanders has been under water for many thousands of years, unless one were an aquanaut or a fish, it would be hard to conquer.  The people whom once lived in Flanders settled around its new coasts in adjacent countries, and many of them took off sailing around the world establishing Flemish communities in other ports.  Thus the Flemish like the Vikings could have been in North America for many thousands of years predating Columbus or even the Vikings.  I have been told that Nordic people mined copper in Michigan ten thousand years ago.  That is all ancient history, and there is not much evidence to continue this discussion, unless one is familiar with ancient Druid settlements in Europe and how they might compare with similar evidence in the Western Hemisphere.  I have not done any research in that particular field.  However, I do recall reading that during the last Ice Age, Nordic people were living in the Canary Islands, so perhaps some made it from there across the Atlantic to lands further south.  However, like Viking settlements, the archeological evidence is scant and hard to follow.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/16/03  Monday 10:45 P.M.:  To learn more about what is happening back down on the farm try http://www.prairienet.org/ which obviously has some computer resources if you have not forgotten about http://www.ncsa.uiuc.edu/ unless they got blown away by a tornado http://ww2010.atmos.uiuc.edu/(Gh)/wx/home.rxml .  I have said many times before the weather is the reason that people out on the prairie do not build to close together, but try to keep their communities somewhat separate, so if a twister comes through, they will not lose the whole community.  Of course living with various buildings spread apart requires more energy to navigate between them.  Maybe they are still trying to harness the wind for energy in the Midwest.  Still, I have not been out there in many years, so I doubt if I have any practical experience they would need, since they are rather advanced in computers.  Of course, since I have relatives still in the Midwest, and since the last I heard the Midwest still has some sort of political influence, once they get back from their winter sojourns to resume farming, it is hard to tell whom is still out there minding the farm.  Still, since most of the internet and the web browser came out of the Midwest, I would imagine besides the T-900 lines at NCSA, they might even have high speed internet access possibly through DirecTV satellites.  Well, if they think this is the farm report from Byram, Connecticut and they are looking at old historical maps, tell them I nicknamed this location Flanders's Field after the ghost of Flanders which occasionally haunts our building.  I believe Flanders was that country between England and France that became submerged in some sort of inundation creating the English or French channel depending on which side of the channel one is on.  I guess the King of Cornwall is still out in the Midwest growing corn too, but we do not have much time to read the farm reports around here.  Anyway, we are still managing to eat well, and at 215 pounds I am not starving by any stretch of the imagination.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/16/03  Monday 10:20 P.M.:  I finished off the 1.3 ounce bag of Glennys soy chips.  Apparently according to http://www.thesoydailyclub.com/MOShenryford/henryfordDL1.asp Henry Ford helped develop the soy bean.  My grandfather's brother in Illinois once told me about 25 years ago, he had been to China over 40 times in business related to Soy Beans, so I guess I have relatives in the soy bean business, whom could get them cheaper.  I know Archer Daniels Midland http://www.admworld.com/ of Decatur, Illinois supplies our local Arnold bakery owned by George Weston bakeries http://www.weston.ca/  with truck loads of grain, so I guess maybe the Arnold Bakery could make and sell them more cheaply. $20.80 a pound for soy chips seems awfully expensive.  I believe Happy Rockefeller use to be on the board of directors of ADM.  Of course I noticed a lot of thin people in the grocery store buying rice cakes which might be more economical.  Of course a lot of skinny older ladies are rumored to live on tea and toast.  I read the article in U.S. News and World Report last week that President Bush is so fit because he eats Jif peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the time.  About the last option in my present diet, which also includes no salt, might be to cut back on the two teaspoons of sugar in my morning oatmeal, and the two teaspoons of sugar in my morning coffee.  However in my ice tea, I only put a cup of sugar for 12 quarts of ice tea.  I guess I could try to eat more fruits and salads along with the increased diet of fish.  CIO

I then spread Texas Best barbeque sauce on it.  I am cooking it in the Farberware convection oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 35 minutes.  I will have it with steamed white rice and steamed fresh broccoli crowns with olive oil and ice tea.  I am making the rice differently now.  I take a cup of Carolina white rice,  and I rinse it in a bowl with hot water.  I then strain it with wire strainer, and I rinse it with hot water.  I then put the rice in the China Village microwave rice cooker, which one can buy at the Food Emporium for $15.  I then add 14 ounces of cold water and a teaspoon of sesame oil and a tablespoon of olive oil.  I put on the lids, and I microwave it in the General Electric microwave oven for 11 minutes, and then I let it stand for five minutes to finishing absorbing the water before I serve it about two portions.  It is lower fat than using butter or margarine.  CIO

My ratio is 7.2.  I was advised to increase in my supplements and vitamins, my daily dosage of Niacimide from 500 mg. to 1000 mg. which helps lower triglycerides.  I have to go back on Monday for another blood test without eating breakfast.  I then will call the clinic on Wednesday for follow up.  I am scheduled for another follow up on my cholesterol on October 1, 2003.  Afterwards, I went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  I returned home, and I took a cold 7.5 ounce can of Icy Point pink salmon, and I rinsed it with the open lid on in cold water,  and then I flaked it with my fingers removing a few small bones.  I mixed it with a couple of tablespoons of Hellmann's Just2Good low fat mayonnaise, and I made two sandwiches which I cut in half.  I had them with ice tea.  I put two packages of Arnold frozen hotdog buns in the freezer in the community room along with a package of Oscar Meyer beef hotdogs in the refrigerator in the community room, which I will not need anymore.  I will now send out my weekly notes.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 9:55 P.M.:  Well, I am tired, so I will go to bed soon after I shut down the computer.  CIO

Unfortunately Scott's internet activity no long makes money, but is a money losing not for profit operation, so I am not able to help out over there with any more donations.  Still if there are any people whom need a church to give to, it is a very reputable church for the village workers in North Tarrytown.  I once buried a time capsule there.  The zip code "10591" used with http://www.tropicdesigns.net/weatherpulse.html which was just updated today would give one the local weather information over at "Thunder Hall" or whatever they call that old Dutch Farm now http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/genInfo.php?locIndex=1782 or http://www.daytrips.org/6_Counties/Westchester/North_Westchester/north_westchester1.html which is probably still good for bird watching.  They have improved the area since Rip Van Winkle's time.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 7:40 P.M.: I saw this web address at the end of the ABC evening news http://www.visitmaine.com/ .  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 7:20 P.M.:  Gregory Peck passed away today.  He was in the movie to "Kill a Mocking Bird" in which Boo Radley was another character in the movie.  I chatted with a friend.  I am microwaving a Stouffer's 15.5 ounce stuffed peppers with beef and tomato sauce, which I will have with ice tea.  Also David Brinkley passed away, so I guess he has joined Chet Huntley in the eternal here after of broadcasting.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 6:55 P.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I stopped by the Arnold Bread outlet, and I bought two new types of loaves of Arnold Healthy Multi-Grain bread for .99 each less 10% discount of .20 for $1.78 total.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I next went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I then went downtown, and I sat out for a half hour.  I then made my 3 P.M. appointment.  I next went by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I paid 50 cents parking today.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I next went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  I then returned home.  I had a cold diet A&W root beer in a frosted mug.  I watched some television.  I am now watching the ABC evening news.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 12:25 P.M.:  I took a cold six ounce can of tiny shrimp, and I rinsed them in cold water.  I then made two sandwiches out of them with two tablespoons of Hellmann's Just2Good low fat mayonnaise.  I had them with a glass of ice tea.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will clean up and go out.  I have a 3 P.M. appointment.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 11:50 A.M.:  The Weather Pulse program seems to be having some Java script problems.  One can get the same information from http://www.w3.weather.com/ or www.weather.com .  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 10:25 A.M.:  I watched some more morning television.  It said on the morning news that the President of the United States of America is going to visit his family summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine Kennebunkport, Maine, Scott's Internet Hotlist for the weekend after he visits New Britain, Connecticut today.  I suppose he will be going after Striped Bass Striped Bass Fishing New England, Stripers, Blues, Fluke, Cod, Albacore & Bonito - Surf & Boat if he musters up the courage to face the cooler ocean waters of Maine.  Last summer when I saw them all up in Kennebunkport in August, they had a lot of UnitedStatesCoastGuard keeping an eye on the waterfront during his visit.  I suppose so many Zodiac Inflatable Boats - inflatable boats, Zodiac inflatables, Bombard inflatable boats and related information. tend to scare the fish away.  Well, I noticed while I was down by the waterfront yesterday, the old wooden sailboat that I have watched for years in the Greenwich harbor is now once again moored in the harbor.  When I had a view of it from my window on Steamboat Road, I noticed no one ever goes on it, and it never moves all summer.  Thus I guess it could be considered a Ghost Ship like the Flying Dutchman.  In Kennebunkport in past summers while the President was there Jimmy Dean Jimmy Dean and the owner of Fruit of the Loom have shown up with large yachts in the rather small Kennebunk River harbor.  I suppose all of the usual White House media people will be there.  I recall the Colonial Village Resort Motel Ogunquit, Maine ~ Colonial Village Resort  across the street from the small Exxon station in north Ogunquit, Maine on U.S. 1 south of Kennebunkport, Maine use to be quite a bit cheaper than the lodgings in Kennebunkport, Maine. Of course if one stayed outside of Kennebunkport, one would need a car to get to Kennebunkport.  Of course long time vacationers prefer Kennebunkport, Maine for its ambience.  The Cape Arundel Inn maine,Maine, kennebunk, kennebunkport maine, lodging at The Cape Arundel Inn has beautiful ocean front views of the ocean with views of Walker's Point.  I believe past Walker's Point about a mile to the northeast there use to be a larger motel complex called the Rhumb Line Motor Lodge Rhumb Line Motor Lodge - Kennebunkport, Maine Resort next to a very small Baptist church, but it was not on the waterfront.  I suppose for Bush watchers, the Green Heron Inn The Green Heron Inn if available is about the cheapest close to all the action of the Kennebunkport community.  One can always kick back at the public beach across from the The Colony Hotel - Kennebunkport, Maine and Delray Beach, Florida which beach has room for about a hundred people and about fifty cars.  I personally might not be going up to Kennebunkport until later in the season in September.  I was told recently by a fisherman on the waterfront here in Greenwich that there is a large ocean front presence of nautical activity in Ocean City, Maryland.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/12/03  Thursday 7:30 A.M.:  I was up at 6:30 A.M. this morning.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I watched some morning television.  I will now do some regular computer work.  The President of the United States is suppose to visit New Britain, Connecticut today The Advocate - Bush to stop in New Britain to push prescription plan .  I believe New Britain, Connecticut is also where Stanley Tools Stanley Works is located for any of you home repair experts.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/11/03  Wednesday 10:20 P.M.:  I got my disability status form from the Social Security agency in Stamford, Connecticut today, and I dropped it off at my social worker's at the Town Hall today to complete the paper work for my renter's rebate.  I am a bit tired, so I will shut down the computer, and I will watch television briefly before going to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/11/03  Wednesday 9:50 P.M.:  My guest arrived about 1:15 P.M..  We went out, and we stopped by the Merry Go Round Mews thrift shop. We sat out by the waterfront for while.  We then went by the Stop and Shop, and my guest bought a pound and a quarter of frozen sword fish.  We returned back to my apartment about 4 P.M..  At 5 P.M., I cut the sword fish in half, and I rinsed it in cold water.  I then put it in a Pyrex pie dish, and I added a few tablespoons of Borden's lemon juice and a third of a cup of Rene Junot white wine and I put a few teaspoons of olive oil on the top of the sword fish along with seasoning it with oregano, basil, and Italian spices.  I cooked it in the Farberware convection oven at 325 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 minutes.  We had it for dinner with steamed white rice with the fish cooking juices on the rice and fish along with steamed frozen peas with olive oil and a glass of ice tea.  I decided to return the 13 inch Sansui color television to Wal-Mart since it did not have a clear picture.  I packaged it up, and I left at 6 P.M., and I drove up to Wal-Mart on the Post Road in Norwalk, and I returned it for $74.07 cash refund.  I then drove over to Circuit City, and I bought a 13 inch Panasonic color television model #CT-13R17B Learn about the features of Panasonic's CT-13R17B - 13" Diagonal TV with Easicon Remote Control, Dark Gray and  Panasonic CT-13R17 13 in. Standard Television - Compare Prices & Read Reviews at DealTimefor $99.99 plus $6 tax for $105.99 total.  I then returned home about 7:45 P.M.. I installed the Panasonic 13 inch color television in the kitchen to the left of the refrigerator on the counter to the right of the dishwashing rack. I autoprogrammed it.  The reception is perfectly clear and sharp, and I am most pleased with it.  My guest watched television while I was gone.  I watched television with my guest until 9 P.M., and then my guest left.  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/11/03  Wednesday 12:15 P.M.:  I installed the update for the Net2Phone communications center, but it disabled my Net2Phone dialer, so I restored it from the backup, and it is working fine.  I chatted with a friend whom is coming over to visit at 1:15 P.M..  I will now shut down the computer, and I will clean up.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/10/03  Tuesday 6:10 P.M.:  I am microwaving a Stouffer's Lean Cuisine 15.5 ounce Salisbury steak dinner which I will have with ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/10/03  Tuesday 6:00 P.M.:  After lunch, I fixed my kitchen phone by disconnecting it from the wall and reconnecting it to the wall to get it working.  I called Social Security in Stamford, Connecticut, and they are sending me a statement of disability for my current renter's rebate application.  I also called the General Electric service contract 800 number, and the renewal statement for $86 I got was for the General Electric air conditioner that I bought in 1988 and gave away ten years ago.  My current service policy on my current General Electric Profile 15,500 BTU air conditioner with remote control is good through September 11, 2003.  I will receive a renewal bill soon in the amount of about $53 for another year.  I noticed today while at Wal-Mart that they have General Electric 5,000 BTU air conditioners for $118, and they have General Electric 10,000 BTU air conditioners for $189 as well as a similar model Fedders for the same price.  I went out at noon, and I went by the Greenwich Hospital laboratory, and I had blood drawn for the second of my cholesterol blood tests.   I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street, and I cashed my $25 Staples rebate.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I then went downtown.  I stopped by the Merry Go Round Mews thrift shop, and I bought an extra large Ralph Lauren green polo shirt for $2.  All of their clothes are drastically discounted.  I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I used .75 in parking.  I then drove down by the waterfront, and I chatted with some waterfront regulars.  I then went by Smokes for Less in Byram, and I bought a carton of Seneca Ultra Lights 100s for $31 total.  I next returned home.  I just had a diet Coca Cola in a frosted mug.  The air conditioner is keeping my apartment cool and comfortable.  I rotated the winter flannel shirts on the left side of my bedroom closet to the far left, and I put my summer light cotton and polo shirts in the left center of the closet.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/10/03  Tuesday 11:00 A.M.:  I was up at 4 A.M. this morning.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I then went out, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I then drove up to Norwalk Hyundai, and they inspected my exhaust manifold, and it is all right.  The inspection was covered by the factory warranty.  I then stopped by the new Wal-Mart on U.S. 1 in Norwalk where Bradlees use to be.  I bought a 13 inch Sanyo color television model #DS13320 for $69.88 plus $4.19 tax for $74.07 total.  I then drove back home.  I disconnected the old small Sony television in the kitchen that did not work very well, and I put it out by the dumpster.  I reconnected the long cablevision cable into the kitchen from the splitter off the Optimum box to the splitter off the wall.  I connected the new Sanyo 13 inch television to the cablevision cable in the kitchen and the AC power.  I put it to the right of the dishwashing rack to the left of the refrigerator.  It did not come with AAA batteries for the remote control, so I put two new AAA alkaline batteries in the remote control, and I turned on the Sanyo 13 inch television.  It automatically prompted me to hit the menu button on the remote control, and it automatically programmed the television with all the cablevision channels.  It works just fine, but one has to turn up the volume a bit when the kitchen stove exhaust fan is running.  I showed it to a neighbor.  I received a $25 rebate from Staples in the mail for the Creative Vibra web cam that I bought for $30 less than a month ago, so it cost me $5 plus tax.  Thus with a $30 rebate yesterday and a $25 rebate today, all but $20 of the cost of the Sanyo 13 inch color television was paid by the rebates in the last two days.  I will now be able to watch television when in the kitchen, which I frequently am.  I will now have two tuna fish sandwiches and ice tea, and then I will go back out again.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 8:30 P.M.:  I had two scoops of Edy's low fat low sugar strawberry vanilla swirl ice cream and ice tea.  I chatted with a friend.  I will turn off the air conditioner before going to bed.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 7:50 P.M.:  I cleaned the outer filter on the Honeywell Hepa filter.  The inner filter which can not be washed looked clean enough.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 7:00 P.M.:  I got the paper work together for my renter's rebate.  I went out, and I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street, and I cashed the $30 MadDog rebate check.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I next made my 4 P.M. appointment.  I then sat downtown for a while.  I had an expensive day parking today.  I used $1.50 on the meters downtown, which is about 3 hours of parking time at .25 a half hour.  I saw quite a few people up from the south land for the summer.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the local newspaper.  I then returned home, and I had a glass of ice tea.  I turned on the air conditioner, since it was 80 degrees Fahrenheit in the apartment.  I set the General Electric Profile 15,500 BTU air conditioner with remote control to 70 degrees Fahrenheit on cool on low fan with Energy saver with the exhaust opening closed.  Keeping the apartment cooler is also better for the computer equipment, and it keeps me from getting tired when it is too warm, since a cooler apartment tends to keep me more alert.  I noticed today in the Odd Job circular that one can get a Daewoo 5,200 BTU air conditioner at Odd Job probably at the Stamford store for $80 plus a $10 mail in rebate.  The Port Chester store never seems to have the major appliances.  I guess some time soon, I should send in the $83 for the General Electric Service contract on the air conditioner that needs to be renewed by the end of August for another year.  I made an appointment to take my Hyundai up to Norwalk Hyundai tomorrow morning to have them check out the recall on the exhaust manifold.  It is probably all right, since if it were not, it would be making noise.  They do not replace it, if it is all right.  They used up the last part today, so if it should need replacement, I would have to take it back in a few days when more of the parts come in.  They now warranty the exhaust manifold for ten years, so it will be covered no matter what in the future.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 2:30 P.M.:  I rested until 10 A.M..  I went out, and I stopped by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Greenwich Avenue, and I got some parking quarters.  I then went by the Greenwich Hardware store.  I then went back by the bank again.  I then went to the Greenwich Hardware store and from the 70% off rack, I bought a Westclox www.westclox.com 2 inch high numbers digital alarm clock model Excel 49827 made in China for $8.09 plus .49 tax for $8.58 total.  I then completed my walk.  I next drove down by the waterfront.  I then returned home.  I put the Westclox digital alarm clock on the living room window shelf in front of the air conditioner and just to the left of the Buckingham Palace model.  I put the Lloyd's digital alarm clock that was there on top of the backup computer monitor.  I put a used 9 volt battery in the Westclox digital clock for backup, but it is AC powered.  I received a $30 rebate on the MadDog multimedia www.mdmm.com  64 meg 4X AGP video card, so the final cost was $35 and tax on it that I bought a couple of months ago.  I had two tuna fish sandwiches for lunch and ice tea.  I will now go back out, and I have a 4 P.M. appointment.  I have to get some paper work together.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 6:15 A.M.:  I will now shut down the computer.  I will rest for a while.  I have a 4 P.M. appointment today.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 5:40 A.M.:  I made two copies of a collection of backed up data and other files on CR/RW.  I put one in the fire sentry box and the other with the other backup on the wall rack to the left of the computer with the other CD disks.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 4:40 A.M.:  I have reinstalled the shower curtains and bath mat in the bath tub area.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 4:05 A.M.:  After the last message, I went out, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  While sitting at the top of Greenwich Avenue viewing the First Presbyterian Church across the street, I noticed the automatic sprinklers were watering the lawn just before it is about to rain.  I got to thinking with the advanced local weather information on the internet, some company or group of individuals could program an internet device to signal automatic sprinkler systems when to water and when not to water depending on the weather.  Of course such a device would have to be online all the time, which would only be available for individuals with online access all the time, such as ADSL and Cable modem users.  I guess if I have thought about it, other individuals have thought about it, since in certain areas of the country water is quite expensive.  I have a relative who pays up to $400 a month in the summer for watering the lawn in Florida on a quarter acre lot.  I next drove down by the waterfront.  I then returned home.  I took off the shower curtain liner and the outer shower curtain and the bath mat, and I put them in a washer machine with about a quart and a half of Purex bleach to remove the mold and scum that accumulates over time.  They should be ready in about fifteen minutes to be reinstalled in the bath tub area.  Of course one does not put a rubber bath mat or plastic shower curtain in a dryer, since they would melt and damage the drier.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 1:35 A.M.:  Well showers are expected at 7 A.M., so I guess I will clean up and go out for an early morning walk.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/09/03  Monday 1:15 A.M.:  I watched some television until 2 P.M..  I had a call from a relative about 9:30 P.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I zipped my Favorites into sub zip files.  I then made two copies with CD/RW disks of my the zipped favorites, my C:\Geo folder with the uploads for Geocities, and My Documents data.  I will store one in the Fire Sentry box and another I will put on the wall rack with my other computer CDs.  Thus I have copies of my data on CD.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 12:20 P.M.:  I will now shut down the computer, and I will watch a bit of television before going to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 12:15 P.M.:  I printed out two copies of the Greenwich Tide Charts for June 2003 through November 2003 Tide Chart Index Connecticut Coast West , and I put one copy in the back seat of my Hyundai, and I left another one outside a neighbor's door.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 11:25 A.M.:  I had some sourdough pretzels and ice tea.  I then had two scoops of Edy's low fat low sugar strawberry vanilla swirl ice cream with seven quartered California strawberries.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 11:00 A.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  Besides covering the pier and waterfront here in Greenwich, I was born on the banks of the Mississippi River across from St. Louis in Alton, Illinois.  I vacationed until 1961 in Holland, Michigan on the beach at Lake Michigan.  I spent time as a child on Pensacola, Florida beach.  I use to spend time around the Tennessee River in Decatur, Alabama.  I attended Lookout Mountain Camp for two summers along a remote Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee River, I have spent time around the beach and waterfront here in Greenwich since 1961 and  also around the back country reservoirs.  From 1968, I spent time in the summers around the Charles River in Boston and the waterfront of Boston Harbor and a bit of time around the Massachusetts north shore and time around some streams and lakes in Vermont and New Hampshire.  I also spent time from 1968 to 1983 on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket.  In college in Lake Forest, Illinois from 1968 to 1972, I spent time around Lake Michigan and the Chicago waterfront the last year living for a brief period a half block from Lake Michigan.  I spent time around the waterfront in Lanzerote, Spain, Greece, Crete, the Arno River in Florence, Italy, and Turkey in the first half of 1972.  I spent time around the waterfront in Manhattan from 1972 to 1993.  I spent time around the waterfront on both the north shore of Long Island and the south shore of Long Island from 1973 to 1983.  From 1976 to 1982,  I also spent time around the waterfront in Florida and California.  I have regularly visited the waterfront in Kennebunkport, Maine since 1978.  I also had a few brief trips around the waterfront in Norway and Holland.  Thus although the climate is colder here on a year round basis, I have continued in this area since 1983 to spend time around the waterfront including the four and half years, I actually lived on the harbor with a window overlooking the harbor.  From that experience, I obviously realize that the weather is a very important factor around the waterfront.  However at 215 pounds and still smoking, I would imagine I am still a lousy swimmer unlike my more professional days when I spent time in the Florida Keys.  I also spent some brief time around the waterfront in Hawaii, Maui, and up around the Great Lakes in Canada.  I recall having visited Virginia Beach and driving around that area a number of times.  I think I have visited the Philadelphia and Maryland and New Jersey waterfronts also.  I might have driven along the Carolina shore including the Hilton Head and Beufort and Myrtle Beach areas as well as driving I-95 through Georgia and having driven along the waterfront in Louisiana and a small part of the Texas shore line when I drove Interstate 10 a time or two.  In California, I only visited the waterfront from Fort Bragg, California to Coronado Beach, California.  Thus in terms of the world class international sailors whom seem to frequent our local waterfront, my experience is more limited.  I do recall also having visited Bermuda, the Bahamas, Tobago, St. Thomas, St. John's, Barbados, Trinidad, and Puerto Rico; and a number of times I took a train along the Italian coast through the French coast to Spain.  I think I even made it to the beaches in Rhode Island around Newport also.  Of course after all those years in the sun, I now have to worry about skin protection and avoiding the sun and avoiding prolonged exposure, so I do not get any malignant skin cancers.  I also flew round trip across the Atlantic ocean five times plus a half with the round trip to Bermuda, and of course I cross the Pacific ocean as far as Hawaii and the Caribbean as far as Trinidad.  Thus as I have said before, I have been as far west as Maui, as far north as Oslo, as far south as Trinidad, and as far east as Istanbul.  I also viewed the Seine while in Paris.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 9:05 A.M.:  I went out after the last message, and I drove down by the waterfront.  A number of the usual fishermen were there.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I then returned home.  I chatted with some neighbors.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/08/03  Sunday 5:35 A.M.:  I put 1.5 cups of water and a half cup of milk in a two quart pot, and I added one medium large peeled and diced Vidalia onion, and dashes of garlic powder, oregano, basil, and Italian spices, and I brought it to a boil.  I then lowered the heat to medium, and I added the package of Lipton alfredo sauce along with 3/4 pound package of imitation crab meat.  I diced the crab meat into about half inch to 3/4 inch chunks.  I then cooked it stirring frequently for eight minutes.  I let it stand for a couple of minutes, and I had half of it for dinner with steamed fresh cauliflower and steamed fiddleheads with olive oil and a glass of ice tea.  I refrigerated the other half of the imitation crab meat alfredo mixture in a Rubbermaid container.  I will now clean up, and I will go out for some morning activity.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/07/03  Saturday 10:20 A.M.:  There is a 7.5 foot high tide at 5:46 P.M. this afternoon when we are suppose to have a lot of rain, however that is not too high, but in another week during the full moon the tide will be two feet higher, which might cause problems if we continue to get the same amount of rain http://www.maineharbors.com/ct/jungrw03.htm .  CIO

Note: <888> 06/07/03  Saturday 10:10 A.M.:  I did the vacuuming.  I took a six ounce can of Council crab meat, and I opened the lid.  I then squeezed out the liquid with the lid, and I left the lid on it, and I rinsed it with cold water, and then I squeezed out the liquid again.  I then flaked it in a bowl, and I added two tablespoons Hellmann's low fat Just2Good mayonnaise, and I made two sandwiches out of it, which I had with ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/07/03  Saturday 9:40 A.M.:  I went out after the last message, and I drove down by the waterfront.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out at various locations.  I then drove back by the waterfront.  I next went by Exxon, and I bought $5.25 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.759 a gallon for about 27 miles per gallon.  I then went by the Food Emporium, and I bought a Vidalia onion at $1.29 a pound for .77, a jar of Gold's hot horseradish for $1.59, a box of Ronzoni spinach fettuccini for $1.85, two packages of Lipton alfredo sauce for $1.50 each, and a package of imitation crab meat for $3.99 a pound for $3.19 for $10.40 total.  I then went by CVS, and I paid a dollar to pick up a prescription.  I then returned home.  I am in the process of making up my usual batch of www.geocities.com/mikelscott/icetea.htm .   I was looking at NYRA.com - Belmont Stakes , and only six horses are running.  I was thinking that if one bet the other five horses besides Funny Cide to show, one might win money if another horse won.  I chatted with a friend, and instead of flu, he has a double case of Lyme disease.  Apparently with all the snow this winter, the snow insulated the ground, so there are more than ever of the deer tick carrying the Lyme disease in this area and up into the Berkshires.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/07/03  Saturday 4:10 A.M.:  I went to bed after the last message.  I had a call about 1:30 P.M. from a friend that has the flu.  I slept until 9 P.M., and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I fell back to sleep until 1 A.M..  I did house cleaning and watering the plants.  I still have to vacuum later in the morning once my neighbors are up.  I am just about ready to have a half of cold Purdue roaster chicken with steamed cauliflower and fiddleheads with olive oil and iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/06/03  Friday 2:30 A.M.:  I was up at 8 P.M., and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I watched some television including Larry King's interview with John Eisenhower about his new book about Ike.  I fell back to sleep after the interview, and I had a call from a relative about 11:30 P.M..  I slept some more until 1 A.M..  I watched some television.  I took the four pound Purdue roaster chicken, and I removed the giblets, and I rinsed it in cold water, and I dried it with a paper towel.  I put it on a roasting rack in a baking pan.  I rubbed it all over with olive oil.  I then seasoned the top side with Old Bay Seasoning, chicken and meat seasoning, garlic powder, celery salt, ground black pepper, Italian spices, Oregano, and Basil.  I am cooking it in the Farberware convection oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes, and then I will lower it to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 30 minutes.  I am cooking it 25 degrees cooler and ten minutes less since the Farberware convection oven cooks faster and warmer on lower settings.  I will have half of it for dinner with reheated white rice, and steamed fresh cauliflower and fiddleheads with olive oil, and a glass of ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/05/03  Thursday 11:50 A.M.:  Shortly after the last message just as I was lying down, the power went off while I was watching the morning news.  I chatted outside with some neighbors.  I checked the radio, and the local radio station did not work until about 7 A.M..  I have a couple of battery powered radios.  I chatted with a relative.  The local radio station said at 7 A.M. there was a fire in an underground electrical culvert by the YMCA.  At 8 A.M., I went downtown, and all the power was off all the way to the center of town.  Putnam Avenue was blocked off from Greenwich Avenue to the YMCA.  They seemed to have contained the underground electrical fire by the YMCA.  I chatted with a Bank of New York officer, and he said it might take until noon to fix.  I noticed lots of employees of Pickwick Plaza standing outside of their buildings.  There was a television truck at the top of Greenwich Avenue.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I noticed Royal Bank of Scotland had power as did the Greenwich Train station office plaza, the Greenwich Police and Fire station, and Griffin Ford.  The rest of town was blacked out.  I next sat out downtown for a while.  I mailed the Greenwich Hospital Health survey at the central Greenwich Post Office.  I chatted with a local traffic officer, and he told me he remembered that cold spell on January 17, 1982, since he was working outside that day, and he said it was down to 22 degrees Fahrenheit below zero.  I then returned home, and I chatted with some neighbors.  I rested for about a half hour.  I had about 20 sourdough pretzels.  I replaced the 9 volt backup battery in my bedroom clock radio.  At 11:35 A.M., the power came back on.  I now have to reset the clocks.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/05/03  Thursday 3:45 A.M.:  Well don't worry about me up here, I have a pantry and a freezer full of food, and plenty of items in the refrigerator.  Right now it is 57 degrees Fahrenheit outside and between 74 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit inside without the heat turned on, so I am quite comfortable.  I have a 3 P.M. appointment today, so I will have to go to bed after sunrise for a little while until 1 P.M., but I have had a lot of sleep recently.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/05/03  Thursday 3:35 A.M.:  The reason, I left the apartment on East 52nd street in that period is that the occupant was doing contract work for Vogue magazine, and he had to go down to the island St. Barths  St. Barts, St Barts, St Barths, St. Barth, Saint Barthelemy, French West Indies for an assignment, so there was no place for me to stay up north.  Of course I did have friends who went to Welcome to Saint Bartholomew’s (St. Bart’s) Church in New York City  St. Bart's in Manhattan, so I could have tried to stay there, but knowing that group, they were probably already down south in that cold weather.   And of course in the winter of 1978 down in Key West, I had been around St. Margaret's in Key West across from the Casa Marina Wyndham Casa Marina - Resort and Beach House - Key West, Florida that I might have found hospitality there.  However, I did stay with a Canadian near there part of the time while down in Key West that time.  However, St. Margaret's was such a tiny church compared to the bigger churches in Key West that no one paid much attention to it.  Traditionally when Henry Flagler built the railroad, he always built a hotel and an Episcopal church for hospitality to travelers.  People in Key West paid more attention to the Casa Marina, and very little attention to St. Margaret's, but I remember one nice lady in a Lincoln Continental use to show up at the abandoned annex across from the Casa Marina to feed the hundreds of stray cats with a fifty pound bag of cat food every day, but she did not seem to realize that any people were living there too.  I still think one of those stray cats might have been a baby Florida panther, but I never saw a full grown panther in Key West, but with all the marsh land down there, it could very easily have been down there too in the area near the airport.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/05/03  Thursday 3:10 A.M.:  Thus although we have had milder winter days recently, I still keep two oil filled electric radiators in my apartment should there ever be colder days than normal.  As I have said earlier in those notes, I had to move out of the apartment I was staying in Manhattan in that period, and I stayed with another friend whom had a warm apartment over an Episcopal church on East 52nd street, and I spent quite a bit of time walking around that neighbor in the colder weather.  The friend had cable television, and they kept rerunning Dr. Zhivago over and over on the HBO channel which did not make one feel warmer.  Of course in that whole period after I returned from California, and when I was living on the west side of Manhattan, it was quite cold in the winters of 1981 and 1982.  As I recall, I did not have a winter jacket, so I bought a light blue and black parka from a street vendor for $15, which were the colors of Columbia University which I use to visit in that period and use the Watson Library at the Business School and the Avery Library at the architectural school.  As usual I did a lot of walking in Manhattan in that period, and I remember walking through mounds of snow and slush.  Several times I would come out to New Canaan on the train, and once I got off at Darien with a friend expecting to catch a cab to New Canaan, but the cab station was closed, so we walked all the way to New Canaan hitch hiking in the early morning hours, and no one gave us a ride, and it was in the single digits temperature Fahrenheit.  I suppose when one is up north with a warm vehicle and warm clothing and a warm shelter one does not noticed the weather as much, but it is the nature of this area, there are always people whom are not use to the colder weather.  So although I have always tried to stay vigilant in the colder weather on a limited budget, there is only so much that one can do.  However, the apartment on the west side of Manhattan was so overheated, we had to leave the window open frequently in the winter to stay comfortable.  The building was a Stamford White building owned by a Dutch family whom later sold it for development.  Well, I am once again use to the colder weather up north, but having to pay for my electric heat during the colder periods on a limited budget, I tend to keep the thermostat down.  Once one gets use to the colder weather, in the warmer months, in the summer, one ends up paying a bit more for electricity for the air conditioner.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/05/03  Thursday 2:40 A.M.:  Happy Birthday to a relative.  I went out after the last message, and I went downtown.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue in a slight drizzle.  I sat out at various locations.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the ATM machine at Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I next went by the Food Emporium, and I bought two 15 ounce Stouffer's stuffed peppers for $1.89 each and a Stouffer's 16 ounce chicken pot pie for $1.99, a Purdue roaster chicken at .99 a pound for $4.52, a bag of Snyder's sourdough pretzels for $2.19, and four 7.5 ounce cans of Icy Point pink salmon from Alaska for $1.40 each for $17.88 total.  I just now returned home, and I had an ice tea.  I was looking at http://www.fi.edu/weather/data2/1982.txt and on January 17, 1982 it was minus seven degrees Fahrenheit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; so as I have observed before it was about minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit in New York before the wind chill factor.  About that time was the last time I went to Key West, and it was so busy down there, there was no place to stay.   One can imagine how cold it was further north of here.  Thus when it gets very cold, there are so many people to the north of us, when they all start going south, it can get very crowded down south.  I remember January 17, 1982 would have been 20 months after Mount St. Helen's eruption, so the earth obviously cooled off a bit in this part of the world the following couple of years.  More than likely people much further north of us might have gone south and never have come back.  Thus if a major volcano goes up in some part of the world, it can make for colder winters.  Around that period in January 1982, I was drinking a bit of Vodka to stay warm, and when I went south people did not seem to understand how cold it was up north.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/04/03  Wednesday 11:50 P.M.:  I had a Stouffer's lean cuisine 14 ounce turkey breast dinner with ice tea.  I will now clean up, and I guess I will go out for a little early morning or late night activity.  Hopefully it will quit raining soon.  However, the damp weather is not good for the old arthritis.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/04/03  Wednesday 11:30 P.M.:  The Times of London http://www.timesonline.co.uk/ is now making without subscription service the Court Circular and Today's Royal Engagements available.  In today's Court Circular http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,61-703160,00.html , it says that the Queen and Prince Phillip visited a Michael Scott at Wrexham college.  It is still drizzling outside a bit.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/04/03  Wednesday 11:05 P.M.:  According to Weather Pulse the rain will continue until about 1 A.M. this morning, and then it will be overcast.  According to http://www.maineharbors.com/ct/jungrw03.htm high tide is at 3:18 A.M. of about 7.7 feet which is not too high, so hopefully there will not be any flooding along the shore line in low lying areas like in Old Greenwich.  I had some Snyder's sourdough pretzels with ice tea.  I am now getting a free weekly subscription to Eweek.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/04/03  Wednesday 10:05 P.M.:  It is still raining outside, and we just had lightning.  I was up watching television until 7 A.M. this morning.  I got up at 6 P.M., and I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I fell back to sleep until 9:30 P.M., since when it rains, it makes me tired.  I chatted with a relative.  I mailed in $25 to Net2Phone on this past Monday, and it is already credited to my account, so I now have $56 on my Net2Phone account.  The vintage movie "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" is on the Turner movie channel, so any southern families on vacation up here up north, must feel right at home despite the weather.  I have always said when I go out late at night, I feel more like Boo Radley in "To Kill a Mockingbird".  However, until it clears up which it might, I will not be going out.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/04/03  Wednesday 4:30 A.M.:  I was looking at http://www.fi.edu/weather/data2/ and January 11, 1988 it was 3 degrees Fahrenheit in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  I recall the last time I visited Washington D.C. around February 1990 while former President Bush was in Argentina, it was down to zero degrees Fahrenheit.  However, I can not find a weather history site with that information.  Also for that time period it was not that cold in Philadelphia.  I will now head off to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/03/03  Tuesday 2:05 A.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I stopped by the Valley Road Post Office, and I mailed two envelopes.  I then went downtown, and I walked lower Greenwich Avenue.  As I was walking up the Avenue just before Welcome to GuildAntiques.com - 18th & 19th Century English Furniture, Chinese Export and English Porcelain, Mirrors, Paintings and Accessories , out of the alley came a medium size skunk that walked in front of me.  Well, I guess it is that time of year where one has to keep an eye out for our old black and white friends that seem to be nocturnal wanders.  I sat out for a while, and then I drove down by the waterfront.  I then went to the Food Emporium.  I though about buying a medium chicken for .99 a pound, but I figured a regular chicken would be too fattening.  I bought two four packs of Bumble Bee 6 ounce cans of solid white albacore tuna in water for $4.99 a four pack and two 7.5 ounce cans of Icy Point pink salmon for $1.40 each for $11.08 total.  It came out wrong since the checker voided some cans of shrimp which were not on sale as the aisle tag said they might be.  I chatted with a local.  I just now returned home, and I had a glass of ice tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/02/03  Monday 11:15 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  I watched the http://news.bbc.co.uk/ presentation of Queen Elizabeth II's 50th Anniversary Service at Westminster Abby http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/events03/uk/coronation/02jun_56.ram .  It runs about an hour and is very informative about the traditional way the British treat the Monarchy.  I have the Life Magazine from April 27, 1953 displayed in my apartment which shows Queen Elizabeth II before her coronation standing in front of fire place in a gown.  Well, I suppose today is like the Queen's Birthday, so I guess those whom still drink alcoholic beverages in the British Empire can have a toast to the Queen.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/02/03  Monday 9:15 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  I chatted with a friend.  Since I went on the low cholesterol diet about two and a half weeks ago, I have lost about five pounds.  I have gone from 220 pounds when I first wake up to 216 pounds after dinner.  I noticed my pants seemed a bit lose today, so I guess it came off the waist.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/02/03  Monday 7:20 P.M.:  I called Norwalk Hyundai before I went out today, and they said they received the notification of the exhaust manifold inspection after I had the 35,000 mile checkup.  They said it would take about 15 minutes if nothing is wrong.  I will take it up there some time in the near future when I am on a day schedule.  I have a neighbor with a similar Hyundai Accent, and his exhaust manifold failed, and he had to pay $450 to have it replaced.  The Hyundai notification says they will refund owners for repairs if they have already have had them made.  I made a copy of the Hyundai recall notification, and I gave the copy to my neighbor.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/02/03  Monday 7:00 P.M.:  I was up at noon.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with grape jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I received in the mail my $20 rebate from Staples for the Sterling PCI telephone modem, so it cost me nothing but tax.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I then went downtown to the central Greenwich Post Office.  I obtained six money orders at .90 each to pay my GEICO automobile insurance, Optimum Online, Cablevision, AT&T, Verizon, and I also sent in $25 to Net2Phone to charge up my account with still has $31 on it.  I also obtained twenty .37 USA flag stamps for $7.40.  I then walked over to the First Union National Bank on Benedict Place, but one needs a car to use to the drive up teller.  I went back and I got my car, and I paid my rent.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop.  I next drove down by the waterfront.  I then went downtown again, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by Electrolux 203-869-5362 at 35 Amogerone Crossway, and they said I would have to bring in my vintage Electrolux power sweeper attachment which needs a new 12 inch internal cable to see if they can get it.  I next went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Times.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a bag of Snyder's sourdough pretzels for $1.79, fiddleheads which were $2.99 a pound but they charged me $1.99 a pound for $2.31, and two half gallons of Tropicana Premium orange juice with calcium for $2 each for $8.10 total.  I then returned home, and I had a glass of ice tea.  In Nantucket the Languedoc restaurant use to get fiddleheads which are young fern shoots from Vermont.  CIO

Note: <888> 06/01/03  Sunday 12:15 A.M.:  I took two boneless center cut pork tenderloin chops, and I put about three tablespoons of olive oil in a frying pan along with four gloves of peeled and minced garlic, and I heated the olive oil and garlic for about four minutes on a medium high electric burner until the oil started sizzling.  I added the two boneless center cut pork tenderloin chops, and I sautéed them for two minutes a side seasoning them on both sides with Old Bay seasoning, garlic powder, celery salt, ground black pepper, chicken and meat seasoning, Basil, Oregano, and Italian spices.  After the initial four minutes, I then added about three tablespoons of La Choy low sodium soy sauce and a fifth of a cup of Rene Junot White wine, and I sautéed them turning them frequently for another four minutes in the mixture.  I had them for dinner with the sauté mixture on them, along with a steamed ear of sweet corn, a steamed sliced green squash, and a couple of steamed florets of cauliflower with olive oil on the vegetables and a glass of ice tea.  It was a most enjoyable dinner.  CIO
