04/23/22 Saturday 12:35 A.M.  On a minor notes there were a lot of tall people in Key West in the 1970s, when I was there.  They were part of the Army Corps of Engineers rebuilding 140 miles of four lane highway in the Florida Keys a lot of which was bridges.  Also the last time I was in Fort Lauderdale in October 1983 during the Grenada Invasion I saw a couple of thousand white people over six foot six inches or over seven feet tall, and in the Bahia Mar Marina there was a eight foot tall oil picture of General Omar Bradley in a five star Army uniform.  Also when somebody down South says they are a ditch digger, they might have helped build the two new Panama Canals that brings all the freight from Asia.  I personally don't like South Florida, because they like to starve you to death, and they are still fighting Yankees.  Also Gary, Indiana with United States steel might have once had the capability of making ships, but they have to fit through the St. Lawrence Seaway when it is not frozen.  Also the Florida Keys might have had people from Texas or oil platform workers from the Gulf of Mexico.  When my father was the assistant plant manager for the Chemstrand Nylon plant in Pensacola, Florida from 1954 to 1956, he employed over two thousand Navy wives.  Even the head Navy Ace in World War II lived across from us.  They use to like a bar called the Drift Wood, where all of the pilots hung out, and it later moved to Vero Beach as Vero Beach became more prosperous.  CIO

04/22/22 Friday 11:55 P.M.  The last time, I was in Key West in February 1982, I suggested running hydrofoil ferry service from Key West to Cuba, but they were not amused.  Although I met a few new people down there, they held me hostage for two months because of a false computer report, when my room mate in Manhattan had a former husband who was a software engineer with the State Department, so I guess in their intoxicated stupor, they have no respect for the truth.  I got a free flight North from Key West, to Cape Canaveral, to Virginia Beach, to Trenton, to Stratford airport, where they held me hostage for another month.  My lawyer from Greenwich solved the problem, and I returned to Plandome Manor, Long Island to build the garage apartment for ten months which person owned the reinsurance company that insured the oil refineries in New Jersey and lived in Mr. Grummon's neighborhood.  As far as I could tell none of my contacts from 1977 and 1978 were down in Key West, but there were three destroyers off the Casa Marina southern most hotel, and I recognized Lowell Weicker and Chris Dodd coming out of that Hotel, but Lowell here told me here, he had never been in Key West, but owned a house on an island just South of St. Thomas.  He was on the Senate Committee for NOAA and the only licensed scuba diver in the Senate, so maybe he was trying to keep some sort of Government Secret, who knows.  Back in 1977 and 1978, Admiral Rickover was supposed to be in retirement in Key West, but it says he ran the whole Navy until 1982.  When I was in Florence, Italy in 1972; Admiral Stansfield Turner was in charge of the Sixth Fleet in Naples, when I saw the aircraft carrier Enterprise in Barcelona.  I also saw him in San Francisco airport, right before the failed Iran Hostage rescue.  What ever, the case, it seems inexperience politicians interfere with people whom have different expertise based on what their supporters try to do.  The Army has the Army Corps of Engineers and the Navy has the Seabees, and Polaroid during the Viet Nam War, made the cameras and film for the www.cia.gov Black Bird Spy Plane which was declassified over ten years ago.  Dr. Land of Polaroid was Richard Nixon's science advisor.  Also his research laboratory on Osborne Street next to www.mit.edu was next to Technology Square which had the back up computers for www.nasa.gov in those days.  The President of Raytheon which made missiles was our next door neighbor in the Boston area too.  I will now go outside again.  My last room mate in Manhattan lived near the West 79th Street Boat Basin, and I once saw Lowell Weicker on West 72nd Street.  He is a tall person, so he is easy to recognize.  CIO

04/22/22 Friday 10:50 P.M.  Another relative in Greenwich had a travel agency for cruise ships.  Another relative elsewhere had a family that owned a shipping line from Hawaii, to San Francisco, to Alaska.  Another relative elsewhere was from a family that owned General Finance that made containers for container ships.  Lake Forest College was near Great Lakes Naval station.  Fort Lauderdale and Key West had a Naval presence.  Nantucket had a Coast Guard station.  The Frick Family owned Bethlehem Shipyard in Quincy, Massachusetts that Joe Kennedy Senior managed when he first graduated from www.harvard.edu .  In Maine, there is Bath Iron Works too.  J. Paul Getty also had oil tankers with State Rooms for comfortable travel.  The only ships I have been on is the Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard ferries, a round trip from Pyraus in Greece to Crete, and once I walked on board the QE II in Manhattan and made myself a Bloody Mary in the Captain's Cabin.  I have also been on the www.forbes.com yacht was www.westpoint.edu .  I recall once look at a cruise ship in Chicago, but I do not recall if I boarded it.  I have also been on the Fishers Island Ferry two or three times.  I also was at sea on a sea scallop fishing boat out of www.nantucket.net a couple of times.  I have also been on a German submarine, they had at the old Chicago Worlds Fair grounds.  I have also been on the Art Boat Yacht from Fort Lauderdale at the Delamar.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

04/22/22 Friday 10:10 P.M.  Years ago, when gasoline was a $1.29 to $1.79 a gallon, I liked touring the various thrift shops in the area.  The Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop is now on Hamilton Avenue.  The ELDC thrift shop in Cos Cob no longer exists.  St. Catherine's in Riverside had a thrift shop.  There is still the Rummage Room thrift shop in Old Greenwich.  Darien had a thrift near Boston Market.  Southport had a thrift shop behind one of their churches.   The old Round Hill Community Church had a thrift shop.  The Visiting Nurse thrift shop was in New Canaan across the street from the fire house.  The Salvation Army had places in Port Chester and Norwalk.  Goodwill had a place in Stamford.

Greenwich also has nautical connections.  The captain of the Queen Elizabeth II once told me he had a place in Byram.  Stolt Nielsen used to be headquartered here.  The Weirdsma family were part owners of Holland American.  The Lorentzens had a shipping line.  My classmate at www.lfc.edu had relatives that owned the Hamburg American shipping line and United States Lines.  My stepfather's second wife's family owned Moore McCormick shipping line.  Monsanto in its office building on the North side of Bryant Park in Manhattan shared the building with W.R. Grace lines.  The Swedish American lines used to comes into Manhattan on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village.  Admiral Mead in charge of the Law of the Seas Conference at the www.un.org also lived on the waterfront in Greenwich.  Thus there are probably other nautical people around too.

04/21/22 Thursday 10:30 P.M.  In the early summer of 1973, Tom McMurray from Lake Forest and myself spent a weekend with the William Pitt family from Bedford out at their beach house next to the Beach Club in South Hampton.  They liked playing Charades.  Later that summer, the Donahue girls from Manhattan and Greenwich had me stay for a weekend at Toby Ginch's beach house on Fisher's Island next to the Henry Luce Castle.  Back in the February 1974, when Fred Von Mierers, George Nichols, and myself moved Helen Kress Williams from the gate house of her forty acre estate in Oyster Bay on three cold winter nights with a U-haul truck to a house next to the fire house in Locust Valley, Helen took us to Sunday dinner at the Winter Club in Oyster Bay.  About that same time, Fred also had me at a big party at a mansion on the waterfront of Long Island, but I can not remember the owners name.  It might have been a Sanford White mansion though.  In the summer of 1974, Kip Forbes had me spend a weekend at the Forbes Farm in Far Hills, New Jersey where he had a guest house near the main farm house.  Jim Eldert knew Sandy Carlson from the Everson Art Museum in Syracuse, and Tim Grant knew Sandy Carlson because they both had gone to Temple University together in Philadelphia.  Jim Eldert once had me go to party at a house next to the Windmill on www.nantucket.net in the summer of 1975, when I was camping out, and I recalled eating a lot of food which upset the host.  In my days in Greenwich since June 1962, I have been to a lot of private homes for social engagements.  I also attended my Taft graduation party at a beach front property in 1968 owned by Dave Maxwell in Locust Valley.  I also recall going to a party with Greenwich people a couple of times at Bell Island off Darien.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

04/20/22 Wednesday 1:40 A.M.  I went through http://scott-mike.com/bf.htm .  When I met Fred Meyers alias Fred Von Mierers at Le Jardin discothèque near Times Square in Manhattan in October 1973 after being laid off by Boodles in Greenwich, he was modeling underwear for www.sears.com catalog, and a couple of days later he was pictured shaking hands with Nelson Rockefeller in the Eugenia Shepard society column saying that he was taking of Billy Baldwin's interior decorating business which he was quite good at.  His business partner was Taylor Sterling in Manhattan and Mayfair Lane in Greenwich.  Fred showed me plans for a beach cabana for Nelson in Bermuda.  His favorite decorated place in the world was the https://www.schloss-nymphenburg.de/deutsch/p-burgen/amalien.htm near Munich, Germany.  He told me he had lived with the Shah of Iran's family in Iran, the Krup family in Germany and Palm Beach, and Nixon's ambassador to Spain the Saltonstal family from Massachusetts.  He showed me his parents five story mansion on Brooklyn Heights over looking Wall Street next to J.P. Morgan's mansion.  One of his projects was decorating Herb Patterson the president of J.P. Morgan's office.  He had me at Barbara Rockefeller's town house on East 67th Street three times and the Annenberg apartments on East End Avenue who were Nixon's ambassador to the Court of St. James.  Fred's lawyer was William Polk Cary whose Park Avenue apartment with private movie theatre we also visited.  His godmother was Helen Kress Williams of East 69th Street and Oyster Bay next to Sagamore Hill with 40 acres on the Waterfront who also was the head trustee of the Brooklyn Museum and Vasaar College and controlled the Kress Art Collection.  Thus basically until February 1975, when he let me use his apartment at 420 East 49th Street, I just went along with his endeavors.  Helen Williams told me she knew people in Greenwich, but Fred never visited out here.  He was pretty busy all of the time even out in Nantucket where he might have worked for the Mellons besides in Manhattan.  The main endeavor seemed to be the International Debutant Ball at the Waldorf Astoria.  When I first met him he introduced me to Chris Bonner whose father was a pilot with Pam Am.  Back in 1982 Chris was shot and killed on Third Avenue in Manhattan.  Fred did mention he was trying to sell round trip tickets on Pan Am to moon for fifty thousand dollars.  Also I lived near Fred on India Street in Nantucket, I never saw him around or knew what he was doing.  Later I learned he was regularly eating at Le Cirque at the Pierre Hotel owned by the Getty family, and back on Labor Day in 1980, when John Bolton and myself were driving around Malibu during a big beach party, I saw Fred coming out of the old Getty Museum when it was closed, but John did not want to deal with him, since his grandmother had other German connections like the Kaiser of Germany's connections from the old days.  Fred did introduce me to Germans going to www.columbia.edu business school, and he seemed to know a lot of people from the many Social Register parties he attended.  He treated Jim Eldert like a VIP, and I was told by someone on Nantucket that he and Jim had a house they shared in Exeter, New Hampshire where the Exeter boys school is located with the third largest private endowment of any private prep school.  Thus maybe I was in over my head coming from Greenwich.  CIO

04/11/22 Monday 3:50 P.M.  I drank my coffee outside.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  While at the Taft School, I once brewed up a gallon of hard cider.  When my family lived at Baldwin Farms North, I used to make beer with Pabst Blue Ribbon malt syrup and bottle it in Canada Dry ginger ale bottles, which one of my sisters would sell to their boy friends for a dollar a bottle to drink undiscovered at Tod's Point.  In that period we also bought Colt 45 Malt Liquor in Port Chester for $4.25 a case for beer parties.  When I quit drinking liquor thirty years ago, when I got back from the Winter Olympics in France, I have bought liquor for other purposes.  When Prince Harry was here for a polo match, the day before, I bought a six pack of Gusiness beer at the package store up in Banksville that I years later threw out.  When driving up to Kennebunkport, a number of times I would stop by the New Hampshire liquor store and buy Absolute vodka for a relative, and I also once bought an inexpensive bottle of Rothschild wine.  I also one bought a six pack of www.nantucket.net beer at Whole Foods that I threw out a few months ago.  About five years ago in January on a 20 degree night, I bought a bottle of French Brandy at Var Max Liquor pantry in Port Chester, which I still have not touched.  I ordered off www.amazon.co.uk a bottle of French Champaign for a friend at 21 Eaton Square London that I later found out had been murdered in 1980.  I also order a bottle of Chivas Regal for Queen Elizabeth II which was refused at Buckingham Palace.  If one looks at http://scott-mike.com/inventory.htm , I still have some alcohol around that might have gotten old.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

On reflection, I once had a relative that tried selling Dutch Grolch beer.  Also in the early 1980s in Manhattan, when I visited a pub in Greenwich Village on Greenwich Street where the Dutch settlement house used to be, on a Friday or Saturday night, I would then drink one Becks beer which had an office in Greenwich, Connecticut before they moved to the less expensive Norwalk office.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 7:05 P.M.  Other notes on the liquor business, the Van Munching family used to live in Greenwich, and owned the distributorship for Heineken beer in America.  The Brooks family in Greenwich had the distributorship for Heineken in America for the Department of Defense.  A friend at Lake Forest College named Carter Bacon had a family house next to the Kennedy's in Hyanisport.  The Kennedy's are supposed to own 21 Brands I think.  One of my few friends in this area grew up next door to Helen Clay Frick in Bedford, New York; and the Frick family owned https://www.whiskyadvocate.com/true-story-old-overholt-rye/ and she had barrels of it in her basement, she would give to the Bedford fire department.  Bonnie Prince Charlie when he escaped from Scotland gave the secret recipe for Drambuie to the aristocrat that helped him escape.  If one drives up the New York State Thruway and crosses the border into Canada, there is a large Duty Free Liquor store just across the border, where one can buy Duty Free Liquor and bring it back down to the States.  Fred Von Mierers used to get Duty Free liquor in Manhattan from the Mexican consulate on East 67th Street.  In the old days in the Church, the priests used to make beer and liquor and wine.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 4:20 P.M.  I drank my coffee outside.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  When I was working at Boodles in Greenwich until the stock market crash of 1973 with my hundred dollars in tips on a Sunday night, I discovered a pub in Manhattan at 59th Street and First Avenue called Daly's.  It was next to Ford modeling, so a lot of their girls would hang out there after work.  Two of their waiters John Michael Barret and Michael Bright were actors with CBS.  I showered up there at John Lindsey's retirement party.  About that time I met Ernest Hemingway's nephew Shawn Hemingway there who had also gone to school in Switzerland.  He ended up at the Metropolitan Museum of Art which I visited many times for free where Caroline Kennedy was working.  Also when I went to Susan Watson's coming out party with Susan Peterson at St. Regis roof in the summer of 1971 where I was Ginny Warburg's date, I would have also been around Arthur Watson's family too whose wife was a Hemingway from Syracuse, New York where Jimmy Eldert was from.  Also as I recall on New Years Eve in 1974, I partied in Greenwich Village with John Michael Barret and the daughter Olive Watson in Greenwich Village.  Later in Key West around 1977 she was also down there.  Thus Birds of a Feather flock together.  In my family's time at Polaroid, Polaroid was leasing millions of dollars of computer equipment from www.ibm.com .  Fred Von Mierers introduced me to David May who did public relations for IBM too and who lived on West 13th Street near the Gretta Garbo home for Wayward Boys, the World War II headquarters of British Intelligence in America.  There is a plaque on the building.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 3:50 A.M.  The Aga Khan's first wife's family own the Guiness brewery.  A Taft School classmate is from the Rothschild family that own vineyards in France.  Desi Arnez's family in Cuba helped start Bacardi.  I still think Fred Von Mierers might be involved with Meyer's Rum from Jamaica.  There is also Captain Morgan rum and Mount Gay rum from down south.  In the old days on the Cunard Line, their largest cargo was bonded liquor that they picked up and dropped off around the world in their sailing adventures.  I will now shut down the primary work computer.  I will eat an Apple tart.  I will then go to bed.  I hope you don't have a Hang Over.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 3:35 A.M.  The last time, I was in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; I saw several thousand white people over six foot six inches tall during the Granada invasion, and there was an eight foot tall picture of General Omar Bradley in the Bahia Mar lobby.  They also used to have Miller Time down there, and Oktoberfest with St. Pauli's Girl beer.  In Key West, they used to have the www.bud.com Clydesdale horses down there with the beer wagon.  A diseased friend here in Greenwich had a local wife that handled all of the real estate in the United States for the South African brewery company.  A former first selectman of Greenwich owned Rubert's beer, and owners of Budweiser are also supposed to be here too.  The construction company that I worked for in Boston in the summer of 1970 on the film factory for Polaroid after the project built the Manchester, New Hampshire Budweiser Brewery.  The Carling Red Cap brewery used to also be in Framingham, Massachusetts.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 3:20 A.M.  Around 1977 in Key West, I ran into Cardinal Cody from Chicago, and he told me his sister owned 25% off Molson beer in Montreal.  Out on Long Island, the friend that I met in Key West drank Miller beer and later changed to Molson beer.  A number of summers ago, after church in Kennebunkport, Mrs. Molson shook hands with me.  One of my diseased friends in Greenwich from an established Long Island family used to like drinking Miller beer in the evening at Tod's Point, and nobody bothered him.  His family now have https://www.bessemertrust.com/ on Steamboat Road here in Greenwich.  Another established friend that used to live on Long Island and moved to the current www.wh.gov neighborhood in Delaware drank Schmitt's beer, and is married to a wife from Kilmarnock, Scotland, where Johnny Walker used to be made.  A classmate at www.lfc.edu that I was in school with in Florence, Italy might have been involved with Schaffer beer.  One brother in law used to drink Rolling Rock beer, and his relative married Joseph Pabst, so he now drinks Shipyard Ale from Kennebunkport.  One used to make beer with Pabst Blue Ribbon Malt syrup and a www.sears.com beer making kit, but you needed a ten gallon crock from your grandmother's basement that belonged to your grandfather.  My father also drank Pabst beer.  In Alabama, he drank Old Hickory and as he became more successful he drank Jack Daniels.  When I started my job at Daniel www.fluor.com in Greenville, South Carolina, I met up with his business associates at the Holiday Inn, there, and I drank about three or four Jack Daniels on the Rocks.  Greenville was a partially dry town with mostly only beer served.  I used to visit Atlanta on weekends, and drink one or two Vodka and tonics at a discothèque near the telephone company there near where www.cnn.com first started.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 2:50 A.M.  When I flew to Paris, France with a friend on Delta for the Winter Olympics in Albertville, France in February 1992, I drank several glasses of white wine on the jet over.  In Paris for dinner at the Churchill restaurant, I recall having a beer with dinner.  In Amsterdam for a few days staying next to the Heineken brewery, I drank a few Heinekens and a $7 www.coke.com .  At the Winter Olympics, I drank white wine in my hotel room and at dinner.  White wine in the grocery store was only $2 a bottle.  At the St. Michael Bar in Albertville, I recall having one or two beers a night.  In Geneva, I recall having a beer in an empty discothèque.  On the way back in Paris, I had a filet of salmon dinner at Precope in Paris with a glass of white wine.  At the media after party, I drank a Heineken and bought somebody from Italy that looked like my friend from Brazil a $10 Heineken.  I do not recall if I drank on the jet back.  My family used to know the family that owned Smirnoff out of Hartford, Connecticut.  I once met Louis Rosenstill that owned Schenlly liquor.  I used to see one of the Brofmans around that owned Seagram's.  I used to have a 4 A.M. breakfast at the Brasserie in the basement of the Seagram's building in Manhattan.  Surrey Liquors was near the French consulate in Manhattan with lots of French wine.  In the West Village besides orange juice, I would sometimes drink Canada Dry Club soda.  By ordering a non alcoholic drink at a bar, it is a way of blending in.  I once had a drink a 7 A.M. at a 24 hour bar in Chelsea where the night shift went.  Fred Von Mierers had a charge account at the liquor store on the north side of the old British consulate on Third Avenue.  Out on www.nantucket.net after the Tall Ships in 1976, they had a pub on the waterfront called "The Sail Loft" with all of the beers from around the world.  The Languedoc restaurant was one of the first places to start serving John Adams draft beer.  Out on Nantucket, one could buy a $2 bottle of French white wine at Henry's or Murray's package store that I occasionally tried.  In the late 1960s people mostly drank Bud at the Salty Dog on Main Street and at Prestons out by the Airport, before the island became more upscale.   They used to call me Billy Bud, because I wore a red flannel shirt and blue jeans like on the cover of the paper back of the same name that I never read.  In the old days before the internet, bars or pubs were a way of networking with people.  While at www.cbsnews.com during Watergate in the Spring and Summer of 1973, I would go to the Oak Bar at the Plaza and have one Bourbon and Ginger Ale.  Once I was suppose to meet Governor Lehman of New York's son at the Oak Bar, and I went to the Oak Bar at the Plaza, and it was supposed to be the Oak bar at the Algonquin where famous writers frequent near the www.nytimes.com .  I once went to a New Years Eve party at friend's apartment in 1982, and I brought a bottle of Johnny Walker regular that I barrowed from my roommate's apartment, but I only drank a couple of glasses of Champaign.  I visited Tobago twice in the winters or spring of 1970 and 1971, and I drank Planters Punch down there, which I think is just rum and Angostura Bitters which is cheap down there.  On the last trip back, I bought a liter bottle of Johnny Walker black at Duty Free in Barbados for a dollar, but it disappeared, when I got back to Illinois.  In Nantucket, most of the college kids drank beer at the Chicken Box which was in walking distance to town.  When I left Nantucket at the end of November 1983, I stayed up all night in Hyannis, but when I went to pub there, they gave me a hard time, so I just stayed up all night in the airport, until the 11 A.M. flight Le Guardia seeing Ted Kennedy at 6 A.M. in the morning before the flight with Jackie Onassis on my flight with John Von Airsdale the pilot on Provincetown Boston Airlines on a small Brazilian Embargado prop plane.  In Kennebunkport, over the years, I would occasionally have a beer or white wine or vodka and tonic.  In Maui at the Hyatt in August 1980, I drank a couple of Vodka tonics and a bottle of German wine that cost me $75.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 1:35 A.M.  After I finished the garage apartment in February 1983 out at Plandome Manor after visiting a relative in Florida, I visited Georgetown in Washington D.C., and a couple of nights I had two Vodka and tonics at the restaurant 1782, where I met Dr. Gillespie who was Lyndon Johnson's heart surgeon.  I also drank a beer at a fraternity party at Georgetown University.  After that trip I visited www.yale.edu during break, and at a discothèque, I had a couple of vodka and tonics.  On my following trip to Oslo, Norway, at the college bar underneath the old Church, I had a Ringness beer, and at the S.A.S. hotel at a Texas party, I drank a Vodka and tonic.  When I later was working out at www.nantucket.net, I would drink a Heineken after work.  At Ronald Reagan's first inaugural, somebody the night before bought me two Vodka and tonics at a Greenwich Village pub where Ron Junior's friends hung out.  After the inaugural, I ate butter Scotch sundae and drank a Drambuie at the Metal of Honor award's ceremony at the Hilton Hotel where Regan first showed up.  Before that I also had a Vodka and Tonic at the Sheraton sitting next to Admiral Stansfield Turner who had been running the www.cia.gov in the Carter years.   At George H.W. Bush's inaugural, it was very cold out, we did not go, and we had lunch at the Dutch Inn watching on television, where I drank three Vodka and Tonics.  At dinner at an expensive French restaurant that night I recall drinking white wine.  At the inaugural party, I drank two Vodka and tonics.  After, the party, I went to 1782, and I met up with Dr. Gillespie, and he invited me to his house and introduced me to his wife, where I drank several Vodka on the Rocks talking about Washington D.C.. He assured me it was the most powerful city in the world, but from looking at the very old buildings in Georgetown, it did not seem that way.  A couple of months later or a year later when I drove down to Washington D.C. on a zero degree day with a friend, we visited a Discothèque on DuPont Circle, where I drank a Vodka and Tonic.  When I came off Nantucket in December 1983, I visited a pub in Toronto, where I had a couple of Vodka and tonics.  When I returned to Greenwich, I went into Manhattan twice to an east side pub, where I drank a Vodka on the Rocks, and I met somebody from Midland, Texas that owned a French restaurant there.  I also met a Doctor there that was in charge to trying to keep people at the www.un.org from drinking too much, and he bought me a www.perrier.com and Angostura Bitters.  In Greenwich, I used to go out to dinner with a friend and have one beer.  Mostly at two local pubs, I would just have a bottle of Perrier.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 12:55 A.M.  In Florence Italy in the Winter of 1972, one did not drink the local water, because it gave one diarrhea.  Bottle water was about $5 a bottle, so I started drinking the local Chianti which was about $1.50 a fiazgo bottle.  I did once or twice have better wine with dinner at the Pensione Adria.  We also drank beer at a Dixie Land jazz bar.  I recall also having Galliano liqueur a couple of times too.  That same winter, when I visited Lanzarote in the Canary Island, I would have a German beer with a fish dinner.  When I got to Athens, Greece in the Spring of 1972, I continued the same practice drink retzina.  When I got a car and drove round trip to Turkey, I did not drink.  When I got back to Illinois that summer, I recall drinking beer, and I think at a summer camp near Saute St. Marie, I drank Corby's Canadian whiskey out of a five gallon bottle in a water cooler at the family cabin of a friend.  Later that fall, when I was in St. Thomas, I did not drink, but I met a former Polaroid employee that was managing Reece's Duty Free liquor, and when I toured the store, I saw a lot of imported liquor in exotic shaped bottles that we do not get in the States.  Each cruise ship passenger could bring back a five pack of liquor bottles on their cruise.  When I worked at Boodles in Greenwich in summer of 1973 and fall, I would have a Heineken after work.  I recall in that period visiting the Bum Steer up on North Street and having a drink of a beer or a boubon and ginger ale with the local crowd.  In the period at Fred Von Mieres' apartment at 420 East 49th Street, we drank ordinary French white table wine.  I would occasionally visit a pub in Greenwich Village and drink orange juice if I was driving.  When not driving, at one place on the Upper East Side named after a famous place in Venice, Italy, I would drink a bourbon and ginger ale for $1.25.  When I got back from Europe in the summer of 1972, I also drank Almaden Mountain White Chablis in Boston, and I also drank that with friends in Illinois before I left for Europe.  In college at www.lfc.edu one could buy a pitcher of beer for $2 or go to Highwood next to Fort Sheridan and get an alcohol drink for fifty cents.  Back in the fall of 1968, when I started Lake Forest College, Jim Beam was $3.59 a bottle and Schlitz was .59 a six pack, so at college parties, we would drink some.  In Boston in the summer while working for Polaroid, I would visit the Club Casablanca off www.harvard.edu square and drink one or two Heinekens.  In Bermuda in the Spring of 1968, we drank rum or passion punch which involved mixing the previous left over liquor from the party the day before with fruit juice.  I think I also drank some Heineken at a Rugby match.  In Port Chester with fake Bermuda draft cards and licenses, when I was under 18, I would drink a draft beer in a glass for fifteen cents or in a stein for 35 cents or a Bourbon and Ginger Ale for fifty cents.  I do not ever recall having an alcohol drink in California, I only drank orange juice.  At two Presidential inaugurals, I did drink liquor though.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

04/10/22 Sunday 12:05 A.M.  I went outside again.  The three winters, I spent in Florida in my 20s, I had hardly any money, so I did not eat too much food.  I remember the last winter in Daytona, when I lived with friends in a cheap motel on the beach, a good meal was a four ounce can of tomato paste and a box of spaghetti noodles.  I recall before going north in April 1979, I was able to get Food Stamps in Daytona, and when I drove back up North with a friend and returned to Greenwich, I used the food stamps to go to Bonjournos in Stamford to buy a prime rib roast for about $7 which my relative in Greenwich was happy to see.  In the fall of 1977 in Boca Raton, when I worked as a $2.15 an hour dish washer at La Vielle Maison, I would eat the food off the plates that the skinny women did not each which included lobster tails and filet mignons.  Prix Fixe there was $200 a meal.  When I left there in February 1978, I flew to Nassau in the Bahamas, and a British fellow put me up, and he was later murdered in London at Eaton Square.  He took me to the Casino for a vegetarian meal, and I saw a large group of British people in formal wear.  There were four BOAC 747 jets at the Nassau airport.  I recall also eating at www.mcdonalds.com in Nassau.  In Fort Lauderdale in the fall of 1976, I survived off peanut butter sandwiches and coffee at the beach mission by the swimming hall of fame.  Occasionally I would take an orange off a orange tree or buy a quart of orange juice or a yogurt.  McDonalds would not even hire me without a fixed address.  A few times at the end of the day, they gave me free hamburgers.  Wiley Middleton collected food sometimes from the grocery store dumpsters, and on Thanksgiving in 1976, I cooked up a big stew in a big pot on the beach grill, but nobody wanted to eat it, but I was told a group of Haitian refugees snuck ashore and ate it later.  In Key West in then winter of 1977, I hardly ate anything, but the herb garden let charge food on the Book of Love which I paid off when my unemployment checks arrived in April, so I ate sesame seed butter and on homemade wheat bread.  Jimmy Eldert was a bus boy down there, but he did not feed me.  In the winter of 1978, when I got back from the Bahamas, and I went down to Key West, when I met John Bolton, he had $1,500 cash from a failed business deal.  We would eat orange juice, yogurt and Cuban bread in the morning.  In the evening for about $2 we would have beans and rice or pan cakes.  When we were living at the Casa Marina while under reconstruction, John would some times give me a dollar to go out and get him a Miller Beer.  I recall I also once I had a Schlitz at the Bull bar.  I think I also once had a Heineken at the Pier House where Jimmy was a bus boy.  In February 1982, when I returned to Key West, the first night somebody from Wisconsin bought me several Vodka and Tonics, but that is all I recall drinking when I was down there.  I think in Fort Lauderdale on New Years Eve in 1977, I also had several beers at the Elbow Room, and I started singing Beatles' songs.  I never drank any liquor in Daytona or Boca Raton on in the Bahamas.  Thus my drinking experiences down there were very limited.  I recall in the Fall of 1977, Wiley Middleton bought me dinner in Fort Lauderdale, and he drank Southern Comfort, but I do not recall drinking any.  Also in February 1982, somebody from Connecticut bought me dinner in Key West at Poor Richard's, and I might have drunk some white wine with seltzer.  I think in October 1983, when I visited Fort Lauderdale during the Grenada Invasion, I might have bought a six pack of Coors for my hotel room.  In the fall of 1976, Joseph Coors III was the head life guard on Fort Lauderdale beach with Colorado license "COORS".  Basically when one does not have any money one does not eat very much food or drink liquor.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

04/09/22 Saturday 11:05 P.M.  Off Amazon Britbox, I watched series 1 episode 6 of "Civilization" by Kenneth Clark.  Although, I live in the tiny corner of southwestern Connecticut which can be a bit cold in the frigid winter, I actually lived in Pensacola, Florida from 1954 to 1956, when my father was the assistant manager of a Nylon plant there.  Thus in my subconscious I knew a bit about warmer weather back then, but even then we once had a six inch snow fall in Pensacola.  When we spent the next six years in Decatur, Alabama, when my father managed an Acrilan plant, I did not notice the colder weather, but I was more interested in the air conditioning the hot weather which back then was relatively cheap, since the eight hydroelectric dams on the Tennessee River provided the cheapest electricity in the Country.  Back around June 1962, when we were transferred to Connecticut, we also had air conditioning in our homes for the relatively short summers.  I also learned how to maintain the wood in the fire places, and oil for heat was less than twenty cents a gallon.  I guess I gradually became a Yankee, but I remember warmer times in my life when I lived the three winters of 1977, 1978, and 1979 that I spent down in Florida.  However, when one comes North in April from Florida, its seems extremely bleak and cold, although the locals whom have been up North all winter, actually think it is comfortable weather.  I will now go outside again to commune with the local nature of our area.  Alas there are no pubs where older individuals can network with their neighbors.  I have not drunk alcohol, since around 1992, when I got back from the Winter Olympics in France preferring to spend my little spare money on home computers and the internet.  CIO
