Earlier today, I moved the Panasonic Toughbook CR29 laptop and the Dell Latitude D410 laptop computer manuals to the far right center shelf in the bookcase in the hallway.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/29/10 Thursday 6:35 P.M.  I went to bed after the last note.  I woke up, and I ate 75% of a 10 ounce can of CVS deluxe mixed nuts.  I finally woke up at 8:30 A.M. this morning.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes.  I made my bed.

I did some apartment down sizing today.  I put out the six foot tall potted palm that was on the window sill out by the dumpster.  Another neighbor put a pole in it to support it, and put it in the building lobby.

I threw out the French reproduction chair and its white slip cover, and the building custodian retrieved it.  I put the Harvard chair in its place at the Hallway entrance with the sheep skin over it.  I also threw out four regular size pillows.

I removed the items from the oak dining table, and I took out the two 1 foot wide leaves, and I stored them on the right side of the bedroom closet.  I put the oak table together, so it is now round and 54 inches in diameter.  I moved it to about 4.5 feet away opposite the right living room closet where it was before away from the windows.  I put the Epox computer on its right side with one Eizo LCD monitor.  I stored the other Eizo LCD monitor on the floor in the bedroom closet.   I put the primary Dell Latitude D410 laptop on the left side of the dining table, and I put the Samsung color laser printer on the far side.  Thus the near side is where one eats.  I put three chairs around the table except in front of the Samsung color laser printer.

I move the Sony television on to the window shelf, and I was able to remove the Sony TV stand, and then I took out the 4 foot by 4 foot by 18 inch chest that it all sat out, and I put the chest out by the dumpster.  I stored the items inside the chest in the left lower stereo bookcase.  I put the Sony TV stand about two feet out from the same bookcase with the Sony television on top of it.  I put the purple fabric office chair back beneath the stereo system.

I move the Ethan Allen recliner midway between Sony television and the FIC computer desk, so if one pulls up its seat slip cover, there is room for it too fully recline.   I also moved the oval and the square throw rugs to fit into the new layout.

I gave the building custodian the new HP C4280 Photo printer that was still sealed, and I did not need.  I have bought it from www.newegg.com for about $30 in August 2008.

Thus I also had to move the computers that I repositioned, and along with some smaller items.

Thus the area in front of the living room windows is more cleared out, and when they do the windows, the FIC server desk, the Ethan Allan recliner, and the Sony television with its stand will have to be moved along with the curtains and curtains rods and the items on the window shelf.  It will also be easier for install and uninstall the air conditioner.

I ate two hot dogs on buns with mustard and ketchup, 1/4 of a 6.2 ounce tube of salt and vinegar Pringles, a dill pickle slice, and watered down punch.

I tested the computers that I moved.  The Epox Vista computer works the same, but its web cam does not work in the Vista partition, but it works in the other partitions.  I think there is a problem with its Vista driver.  It still can be played off the Sony television in Clone Mode too and the USB remote control is also still available.

I showered, and I cleaned up.  I chatted with neighbors.  I chatted with a relative.  I went outside, and I chatted with UPS, and I picked up the mail.   CIO

Note: <888> 04/24/10 Saturday 5:45 P.M.  I went out after the last note.  I went downtown, and I used the bathroom at the Senior and the Arts center.  The have fixed the broken bench at the Senior and the Arts center.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I stopped by CVS, and I chatted with a local Dutch citizen.  I bought two 18 ounce cans of Campbell's lean beef and vegetable soup for $2 each for $4 total.  I was given a brochure for a home delivery service for food at FreshDirect.  I finished my walk, and I chatted with a local walker.  I used the bathroom at the Senior and the Arts center.  I then drove my Audi with the local walker, and I drove up North Street to Bedford, New York.  I showed the local walker where a friend of mine use to live, and it is across the street from Martha's Stewart's estate.  We then took a break at the Friends of John Jay Homestead .  We then drove by Richard Geer's restaurant where Nino's restaurant use to be.  They have an outdoor terrace there.  It was busy, so we drove over to South Salem, New York, and my passenger got a Nestle chocolate milk for $2 at the South Salem deli.  We then drove over to North Salem, New York, and Ulysses S. Grant's house is no longer at Grant's corners.  They have built a new house there.  We then drove over to Ridgefield, Connecticut, and I used the bathroom at the Ridgefield Public Library.  We then drove a back dirt road between Ridgefield and Wilton and New Canaan to New Canaan, Connecticut.  We parked by the New Canaan Visiting Nurse Thrift Shop, but they were closed at 1 P.M. on Saturdays.  We observed some police activity with a large horse trailer that had caused an accident.  We then walked around the downtown New Canaan area.  We went to the Rugby and the Ralph Lauren Polo Shops.  My passenger had a cup of coffee at Garlick and Herbs for $1.50.  We then drove out of New Canaan via the main road, and we took the Merritt Parkway to North Street in Greenwich.  I dropped my passenger off at his apartment in downtown Greenwich, and I returned home.  I drove about 77 miles today making like an Arab using lots of gasoline. I picked up the mail.  I saw a lot of houses in the area with For Sale signs in front of them.  In Greenwich, they do not allow For Sale signs.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/24/10 Saturday 9:25 A.M.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I emptied the garbage and the old periodical literature, and I chatted with neighbors.  I watered the plants.

I will now shut down the primary Vista computer, and I will shower and clean up, and I will go out to enjoy a walk on the magnificent Greenwich Avenue, better known as Rodeo Drive East.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/24/10 Saturday 7:30 P.M.  After the last note, I chatted with a relative back from the Netherlands.  I chatted with a friend going to a horse show in Connecticut today.  I ate a bowl of Cheez-its and a Kaiser roll.  I went to bed about 6:30 P.M..  I woke up at 3:30 A.M.  I did two loads of laundry.  I had to do two dry cycles for each load, since the laundry was not dry.  I put clean linens on the bed.

While doing that I had to open up the primary Vista computer CPU, and remove the Netgear GA 311 LAN card and install its drivers and then put in the Netgear GA311 LAN card again.  The procedure is explained here http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/499 .  While I had the CPU opened, I cleaned its case filter, and I also put in a new 2032 button battery for the CMOS.  I reset the CMOS to the same settings that I had before.  I put away the laundry.   CIO

Back in the winter of 1968, when my family had moved to Wellesley, Massachusetts; so my father could work at Polaroid.  I drove down to Princeton University www.princeton.edu to visit with friends at the Intercollegiate Prep School ice hockey tournament.  I drove down in the relatively new 1966 Mustang convertible that the kids in my family used.  I put in the back seat a 9 inch Sony television hooked up the cigarette lighter.  While I was at a party down there at the Cottage Club with some friends, I went out to the Mustang to watch a golf tournament that was on television.  Some friends were amused that I had a television in the car.  One of their girl friends surveyed the scene, and said "How Noveau Riche".  I got to thinking about it, in that the Old Guard do not splash their life around with modern trappings, so ever since then I have been maintaining a more low key Old Guard approach to life, so people do not think I am Noveau Riche.  Alas with all of the computers in my apartment http://mikelouisscott.com/computer.htm , I might still look Noveau Riche; but I have managed to down size from our Polaroid days, so I have a simpler approach to life.

I noticed somebody driving a red Mercedes 280SL downtown yesterday.  They had one of those old orange and blue New York license plates that was "AC".  I wandered if it was Anderson Cooper, but it did not look like him.

I have noticed at the Greenwich Automotive Services Gulf Station, I think they still another Mercedes 280SL for sale at their location.

I will now make up a fresh batch of punch.  I will then wash the breakfast dishes, and I will make my bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/20/10 Tuesday 11:45 A.M.  I went outside, and I chatted with neighbors.  I walked around the building.  Not much seems to be happening.  It sounds like it might be busy downtown, since I can hear a lot of traffic.   There is no point in going downtown today, since I think I deserve a relaxing day at home.  Basically the daytime people seem to like to hang out downtown in Greenwich, since they come from neighboring towns which do not have downtown areas or not as upscale.  There are businesses downtown in the office building, but one can not tell what they really do, since they do not advertise their services.   It is like some rich person employs a lot of unemployed actors and actresses to dress up and hang out downtown in Greenwich to try to make it look more upscale than it actually is.  Actually some of the older buildings are quite run down, so from a physical plant point of view, it is not as deluxe as it actually appears.   I am told that Florida is still busy, so these are the poorer people whom can not afford to go down to Florida, so they must be use to the cooler weather in this area.  Usually by the first or second week of June, it gets hot here.  We use to have a lot of flight personnel hang out at the pubs here at night, so maybe we are getting the daytime version of flight personnel until they make their return flights.

The cheapest places I know of to stay in this area outside of Greenwich is Extended Stay Hotels corporate housing hotel suites and discount hotel rooms in Elmsford, New York or Norwalk, Connecticut, but you would probably need a car to get around from those places.  The Hampton Inn on I-95 at Exit 6 on the Greenwich Stamford border advertises $100 weekend rates and $150 on weekdays.  Of course with the internet, you could always bid on the Hyatt Hotel in Old Greenwich or the Delamar Hotel on the waterfront in Greenwich, and possibly get their rates cheaper.  We also have a few inns in town that offer accommodations.

Usually when they see me downtown, they figure I am checking out the town business activity for the local chamber of commerce and keeping an eye on the general traffic, but since I have no legal authority, I tend to be the neutral observer, and it always seems like everyone downtown is waiting for Donald Trump to make a guest appearance and pay all of their bills and make them wealthy.  Unfortunately, it does not work that way in Greenwich, Connecticut.  It tends to take money to hob knob with the rich and famous.  However, since I do not watch much television or go to the movies, I do not know whom is popular in terms of the media.  However, there are other people whom are more private that occasionally have to go downtown on errands, and they seem to enjoy the general ambience of the street activity on Greenwich Avenue.  The new Apple Ipod store has brought out more geeks, but the other stores seem to be surviving.  I suppose, some people have business lunches at our local restaurants.  Also one never knows whom might show up out of Manhattan for a day in the country.  I will have to check my schedule to see if I have any activity that prevents me from making one of my frequent guest appearances downtown as the token old geezer amongst the younger generation trying to make a living.   CIO

Note: <888> 04/20/10 Tuesday 10:05 A.M.  I watched the Space Shuttle land.  I ate two hot dogs on buns with mustard and ketchup, 1/4 of a 6.2 ounce tube of sour cream and onion Pringles, a dill pickle slice, and watered down punch.  I will now shower and clean up.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/20/10 Tuesday 8:50 A.M.  Yesterday, when I was out for a walk, I mailed three letters at the central Greenwich Post Office.  Earlier today, I washed the breakfast dishes, and I made my bed.

Back during the last recession during the 1970s, when they  were building the new Citicorp building behind the old Citibank building on Park Avenue, a lot of people use to enjoy sitting in its lower level lobby after it was completed having coffee and pastries, and there were clean bathrooms to use.   The Plaza Hotel and the Waldorf Astoria hotel also have clean bathrooms, if you happen to be in Midtown Manhattan.  Rockefeller Center also has bathrooms for tourists.  I guess with all of the Starbucks in New York City now, there are now more bathrooms for the general public.  The Metropolitan Museum on the lower south level had bathrooms for the general public before the admissions area.  I never spent much time at the United Nations, since I was not a diplomat.  I do know one is legally allowed to smoke cigarettes there.  I have eaten at their cafeteria before and used their post office.  I occasionally use to have cocktails, when I could afford it at the Hyatt Hotel across the street from the United Nations.  In the evening, they had a very good piano bar there.  Since I once knew some prominent people in Manhattan whom became more private as they became less prosperous, I suppose the new money people in Manhattan whom seem mostly to be Jewish and Arabs are not really interested in dealing with White Anglo Saxon Protestants from the Suburbs, unless they are spending money on over priced goods and services.

I do know the protestant establishment has some investments in Manhattan.  The largest land owners in New York City are the City of New York, the State of New York, and the Federal Government, and then the Episcopal Church and then the Roman Catholic Church, so there might be some protestants in Manhattan whom have managed to keep a roof over their head, when the new money people thought they were all gone.

The New York Times is a Jewish newspaper, so they do not cover Protestant news very much.  More than likely wealthy protestants can afford to make a telephone call to see what is happening, and they do not need to read the Fashion Avenue Press to see what is happening.  Also more than likely they have their own places in the suburbs, so they obviously can afford to go back and forth and even elsewhere when the weather is colder or too hot.

Of course in the news business, frequently the general public do not even read, listen to, or watch the news, since they are busier with other more important affairs relevant to their lives.

The reason I use red on white for my web notes is that red is a more neutral color, so if they were printed out on a black and white laser printer, they would use less black toner.  However, if they were printed out on an inkjet printer, they would quickly use up the red ink cartridge.

I have never been to the 21 Club, but it is right next to the CBS headquarters, so that much be their primary source of business connections.

NBC is at Rockefeller Center, so they must be networked there.  FoxNews is in the same neighborhood, so they must be enjoying the same viewpoint.  CNN comes out of Atlanta with an office at Columbus Circle, so they are still in the same neighborhood.  ABC is near Lincoln Center further up the west side.

The British Consulate in Manhattan use to attract a lot of Irish protestors whom looked like they had drunk too much liquor.

Nobody ever seem to notice the French consulate nearby the Frick Museum.  I never figured out where the Dutch consulate was, but the Swedish and the Norwegian and the Danish consulates were near the British consulate.  I think the Dutch Consulate might be at Rockefeller Center.

Diplomats seem to enjoy having cocktails hoping to get some extra information from some of the other diplomats when the let down their guard.

Basically, I never had much money in Manhattan, so I did not drink much alcohol, but I did by cigarettes, when they were a $1.29 a package.   CIO

Note: <888> 04/20/10 Tuesday 7:55 A.M.  I ate a Kaiser roll.  Besides, people observing at the World Famous Greenwich Avenue, a lot of the more savvy regular Greenwich residents sit outside on nice days at the Riverside Shopping Mall, since that area of town tends to draw a lot of people doing ordinary shopping routines instead of the more glamorous routines on Greenwich Avenue.  I think Starbucks at the Riverside Shopping Mall has wireless internet that you might have to pay for, and possibly www.mcdonalds.com just west of the Riverside Shopping Center has free wireless.  I do not know if McDonalds across from the Mercedes Benz dealership on West Putnam Avenue has free wireless internet.  I generally can not afford to eat there.  I think there is free wireless internet at the Senior and the Arts center, so possibly one can pick it up sitting on the benches in front of the Senior and the Arts center, but I have never seen anyone using a laptop computer at that location, although plenty of people use them next door at Starbucks.  One used to be able to pick up WiFi on Steamboat Road coming from the Indian Harbor Yacht Club, and I think the Greenwich Train station has Optimum Wifi.  Of course, the Greenwich Library has wireless internet, but I am not sure if one can pick it up outside the building.  CIO

The BBC World Service is chatting about bicycles.  I noticed yesterday, besides the new bicycle shop behind the Citizens Bank just east of Greenwich Avenue where the Electrolux vacuum shop use to be, there is another bicycle shop downtown just east of the bottom of Greenwich Avenue opposite the Honda car dealership lot.

I have lived places such as Nantucket and Key West where a lot of people ride bicycles, but I was usually a pedestrian walker most of those times, when I did not have a car.  Now that I have had a car for the last 23 years of 26 years I have been back in Greenwich, I tend to exercise walk on Greenwich Avenue, where one does see a lot of pedestrians.  To really get the full viewpoint of Greenwich, Connecticut and all of its magnificent estates in back country and the surrounding area, one really needs to use a car, particularly if one is older.  When I first arrived in Greenwich, Connecticut in 1961, I use to ride my Schwinn bicycle with a two speed Bendix brake system around Round Hill Road which was difficult with a heavy bicycle.  I occasionally would ride a bicycle in Nantucket, but sand was always getting into the gears.  I bought a Mountain Bike off the internet about six years and I kept it in my apartment for a few years, but I never used it, since I considered it too dangerous to ride a bicycle around here, and I finally gave it to my brother in law who lives in a less crowded neighborhood.  Thus I am pretty much the mechanized foot patrol anymore.

Of course with the price of gasoline, I tend not to go to far.  Since I got my Connecticut driver's license in New Canaan in 1966, when gasoline was cheaper, I have driven all over this area over the years and also around the country.  I used to take off on day trips to explore various areas.  One of the nicer day trips is one can drive across the Hudson River and visit www.usma.edu .  For many years I would also drive into Manhattan frequently when there were more free parking places in the old days.  However, there are few free parking places anymore in Manhattan, and one can get a lot of front end damage on one's car with all of the pot holes in Manhattan.

It costs me about $6 in gasoline round trip to drive over all of the way to Tod's Point in Old Greenwich to enjoy the beach, so I rarely go over there anymore, but when gasoline was cheaper, I use to go over there more frequently.  Much could be said about taking a drive in back country Greenwich in that the gasoline costs quickly mount up.  I have driven over a number of times over the years to North Tarrytown, New York to see the Rockefeller Estate, and they now have a New York State Park on the property, where one can walk around in the woods enjoying the local nature.  One use to be able to park for free at Westchester County airport, and enjoy looking at the planes, but they now have a lot of security there, and I think it costs $5 an hour to park there.  They have two Walmarts in Norwalk, Connecticut along with a number of other outlet stores, but I usually find things cheaper on the internet.  Virgin Airways has offices in Norwalk, Connecticut.  British Airways has offices in Queens, New York.

Since my family were neighbors of the Bushs, the local democrats tend to ignore us, but if one reads history the Scott family were involved in starting the democrat party, so in the old days, I use to know a lot of people from both political parties.  Since the democrats seem to drink a lot more liquor, the tend to ignore moderate republicans whom do not drink liquor.  I suppose with all of my computer activity, I can be somewhat tedious, but obviously I have to do things based on my experience and not other people's experiences.  I have enough New York City experience, that I feel it is not necessary to waste my money to go there, when I am on limited funds.

It was about six years ago, that I drove up to Ridgefield, Connecticut were Queen Beatrice's nephew lived, and I bought a balsa wood toy airplane at the Ridgefield, Connecticut hardware store for $1.59.  That is the total extend of my air force at the moment.  When I lived in Key West, Florida, there were a lot of people there from Homestead air force base.  When I lived in Nantucket, there were a lot of people from Otis Air Force base.  When I lived in Long Island, I was in Mr. Grumman's neighborhood, and Northrop Grumman is the third largest defense contractor in the United States.  Also years ago, there use to be a lot of private pilots in the Greenwich Library in the morning.

The last time I was on a jet was when I flew from Melbourne, Florida to J.F.K. after visiting a relative in Vero Beach, Florida.  A lot of times, when I use to travel I occasionally got VIP receptions, but when I did not have much money, people would ignore me.

Of course, when I lived in Decatur, Alabama as a youth I use to assemble plastic model airplanes and boats, but I never was very good at painting them.  I also collected railroad badges from cereal boxes.

Now I feel like a Metro North Detective watching all of the commuters coming and going in downtown Greenwich, Connecticut.

Most people ignore me, once they found out that I had worked briefly for C.B.S. News, since people here seem to want to ignore the media, and besides I am not in the New York City media anymore.

Fairfield County, Connecticut has hundreds of miles of suburban garden communities.  They do make the President's Helicopter Marine One in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and General Electric www.ge.com has its Corporate Headquarters in Fairfield County, and GE makes jet engines.

Of course www.ibm.com is nearby in Armonk, New York, and they obviously are still in the computer business if you need to buy an expensive mainframe computer.

Greenwich, Connecticut now has a lot of hedge funds, so we obviously have a lot of wealthy financial people working here, whom more than likely are making a bit of money off worldwide international finance.

However, Greenwich Avenue seems to be mostly women's shops, but there are a few shops that men might find interesting.  Of ever more interest on West Putnam Avenue besides www.mcdonalds.com we have all of the expensive European car dealerships and one Chrysler Jeep dealership, so obviously some pedestrians some day might need to buy a car to see more of Fairfield County, Connecticut.  There are a lot of super size car dealerships up in Danbury, Connecticut where one might find a better deal.  There is a www.cadillac.com dealership just west of the Greenwich Train station.  Thus more than likely some of the local business people are making money off all of the activity in this area.

Of course expensive real estate is the biggest business in Greenwich, Connecticut, and with prices starting at about a half million dollars and going up to tens of millions of dollars, more than likely this is an expensive town even for the wealthy people.

The expensive beef steaks at the Whole Foods grocery store can cost $30 a pound.  I am sure some of the other businesses that cater to the wealthy people are equally expensive in terms of the service and items they offer.

www.costco.com is nearby in Port Chester, New York, and they take food stamps, but they cost $55 a year to join.  I do not have room in my apartment to store a lot of food, so I do not need to go there.  A few years ago, they would give a visitor a pass to just see what is in the store in case, one wanted to become a member.  They are suppose to have very good chicken pot pies.

The Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop still exists across the street from the Hamilton Avenue school, but they have gotten more expensive, and they do not carry electronics anymore.

From what I know, it is not very profitable observing in downtown Greenwich, but I am obviously an expert.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/18/10 Sunday 5:40 A.M.  Although I have been listening to various BBC Radio stations on the Asus Internet Radio, many other internet radio stations are also in English.  Each country has its own viewpoint, so frequently the presenters on various different radio stations chat about different subjects.

The United States of America being isolated between two large oceans frequently does not draw much worldwide attention, and many people think of us like Australia as being way out there in the middle of nowhere.

Since I am in the New York City Metropolitan area, I am around a larger international group of people than probably most other people in more remote locations in America.  We have a large Hispanic group of people here from Latin America, but alas I do not know Spanish.  Also New England has a large French speaking community to the north of it in Quebec, Canada.

I have tried to network with other people recently, but since so few people smoke cigarettes here anymore with the higher taxes on them, most of the local non smoking public ignore me.  I probably should try to quit smoking cigarettes myself sometime soon, but frequently since I am out in the night hours, I think it helps keep the wild animals in this area away, when I am out there by myself observing and walking.

Although I am well read, and I have been using the internet for 20 years, most people ignore me, since I am from the republican party, but since I am on the low economic scale of the ladder of success, people do not wish to network with me.  Since Greenwich, Connecticut is a wealthy town, most people prefer to network with the wealthier local population, and a great many people show up here to network with them.  However, I have a few friends that remember me, when I was more prosperous, and I keep in touch with them as best as I can.

Basically with the internet anyone can express their viewpoint freely which was not always the case in the old days of publishing.  However, since I also know how to type, and I have different experiences having lived elsewhere, more than likely some of the local people here from elsewhere, do not wish to network with people that they do not share common experiences with.

I have a great deal of experience also around the various waterfronts around the world, but alas I do not always have the language capabilities to chat with those from other waterfront areas.  I guess if one does not know how to fish, there is not much point in trying to earn a living around the waterfront.  When I use to read business publications and chat with people about what I had read, lots of people chatted with me, but once I started reading mostly computer technology, most people began to find me boring and quit networking with me.

Also Greenwich, Connecticut as do most of the New York City suburbs have quite a few people that drink alcohol, and they tend to be more reclusive and not computer savvy, but they have their viewpoints too.

I have been told by professionals here that most people do not like the way that I appear, since I look German, although I do not know the  German language.  One would think with all of the German car dealerships here, there might be some English speaking people with a German look.  Having spent four years in college in the Midwest at www.lfc.edu , I know there are a lot of English speaking people with my look in the middle of the country.  Now that I have grey hair, it does not really matter that I once had dirty blond hair.  It sort of make one wander whom is writing the media around here that we frequently read.

I have traveled around a good deal of the United States of America and used libraries all over the country, and from what I know it would seem that other people whom think they know it all from Ivy League educations might be missing out on the vast majority of the country which they seem to be unaware of.

Overall, since I have also explored the Nation's Capital Washington D.C., I also know something about that too.  From what I know a lot of people in the U.S. Military have my look, but they have more experience having lived more places.  Also they probably have shorter hair, so they tend to look more uniform in appearance.   It is the nature of the military, they tend not to public much information for security reasons.

I do know they jog a lot, so if you happen to chat with a jogger, it might be someone with military experience.

There are a lot more rich people in Bedford, New York and New Canaan, Connecticut; but they both have small downtown areas in which to try to network with people.  The last time I looked about 10 years ago Bedford, New York did not have a Starbucks.  New  Canaan, Connecticut has a Starbucks next to the train station, and it also has two CVS stores downtown.

A lot of people try to network by going to various churches in the area, but since I am frequently on an off prime time schedule, I do not try to network through the churches, but I know a lot of church people in this area having been a member of one of the prime churches in this area in the wealthiest area.  Alas, they it is too expensive to drive to in order to see what is going on.   They are probably still talking about gardening.

Of course people with larger parcels of real estate have to spend a great deal of time maintaining them, so they do not always have the time for internet activity like I do.

I suppose with so many people cutting grass and gardening in this area, there must be a bit of income in that activity.

We have a lot of golf courses in Greenwich, Connecticut; but that is an expensive hobby and one can not play golf year round, unless one visits some place warmer in the winter.

Since the Wall Street community tends to enjoy larger incomes, we frequently get various political individuals trying fund raise from the more affluent people here in town.  However, the various political people in this area do not always pay to much attention to the less affluent people in this area, since they do not have much of a political lobby.

A lot of my Greenwich Country Day School, Taft School in Watertown, Connecticut, and Lake Forest College classmates are fairly affluent, but they manage to stay private in terms of their internet activity.  I use to go to a lot of ice hockey matches, and I am left living by an ice skating rink, but I have only been there a couple of times over the years.

I have spent more than my share of time in the Greenwich Library, and I was told by one regular political user, I should be an economic consultant, but I am so behind in my financial reading, I do not think I would be much help in that field anymore.

Sunrise is at 6:10 A.M. this morning.

A lot of people think I am a news reporter, since I worked as clerk typist at C.B.S News for three months during Watergate, but alas; it never lead to a better job, since I tend to keep non office type hours.

Explosive eruptive phase of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, Iceland, begins
14 April 2010

The eruption plume from Iceland that has caused the unprecedented
catastrophic disruption of air traffic and closure of airspaces over
northern Europe is due to an explosive eruptive phase that began at the
Eyjafjallajökull volcano on April 14. It is a continuation of eruptive
activity in the Eyjafjallajökull volcanic system that began 20 March 2010.
During an initial eruptive phase from 20 March to 12 April lava flowed
from eruptive vents on the volcano flanks, outside its ice cover. The lava
erupted in the initial phase is alkali-olivine basalt, with silica content
of about 47%.

After a short hiatus in eruptive activity a new set of craters opened up
in early morning of 14 April under the volcano’s ice covered central
summit caldera. This eruptive phase was preceded with a swarm of
earthquakes from around 23:00 on 13 April to 1:00 on 14 April. The
earthquake swarm was followed by the onset of seismic eruption tremor.
Meltwater started to emanate from the ice cap around 7 o’clock on April 14
and eruption plume was observed in the early morning. Visual observations
were limited by cloud cover over the volcano, but an airplane of the
Iceland coast Guard imaged with eruptive crates with radar instrument.
Series of vents along a 2 km long north-south oriented fissure were
active, with meltwater flowing down northern slopes of the volcano, but
also to the south. Ash loaded eruption plume rose to more than 8 km
height, deflected to the east by westerly winds.

Jokulhlaups (floods of meltwater) reached the lowlands around the volcano
with peak flow around noon on April 14, with destruction of roads,
infrastructure, and farmlands. No fatalities as people had been evacuated
from hazardous areas. Tephra fall begins in southeast Iceland.  A second
jokulhlaup/lahar emanates from the ice cap down the Markarfljot valley in
the evening.

On 15 April the eruption plume reaches mainland Europe with closure of
airspace over large part of Northern Europe. Activity continues at a
similar level with ash generation and flow of meltwater in pulses.
Jokulhlaup/lahar occurs in the evening. On April 16 some variability
occurs in seismic tremor and tephra generation, but overall the eruptive
activity remains stable. Pulsating eruptive plume reaches above 8 km, with
overall height of 5 km.  Large closures of airspace continue.

Chemical analyses of ash samples reveal fluorine rich intermediate
eruptive products with silica content of 58%, more evolved than in the
initial lava producing phase of the eruptive activity.  The magma
composition may reflect evolution from alkali-olivine basalt by crystal
fractionation as erupted in the initial phase.

Note: <888> 04/16/10 Friday 6:45 A.M.  I went out after the last note.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  At 4:30 A.M., the Greenwich Train Station was not opened.  I tried using the bathroom at Starbucks at 5:15 A.M., but they do not open until 5:30 A.M., so I walked back down to the Greenwich Train station again.  However, the men's room there is closed.  According the person at the coffee bar there, the men's room at the Greenwich Train station has been locked for two weeks.   A cup of coffee at the coffee bar at the Greenwich Train station costs $1.15.   They are part of the deli just east of the train station.  I walked back to Starbucks which was opened, and I used the bathroom.  They have a $1.50 cup of coffee there, but they have comfortable places to sit down and bathrooms.  The sell a coffee blend in beans called Kimono Dragon.

I threw out the garbage and the old periodical literature.  While I was sitting outside, I saw a young fox cross the driveway.  It did not have bright markings, so it was probably a female.  On all four feet, it stood about 20 inches high from head to toe.  I watered the plants.  I will now shut down the primary Vista computer, and I will go out for an early morning walk.  I saw a skunk outside the other night, when I was outside, so be aware.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/16/10 Friday 3:00 A.M. I set the clocks on the living room VCR and the bedroom VCR to the right times.

Note: <888> 04/15/10 Thursday 11:25 A.M.  Well, there is not much going on around Greenwich today, since nobody in Greenwich, Connecticut with the recession has any spare money to spend.  Most everyone is probably staying home at their country estates working in their gardens hoping to grow a little extra food to get by on.  I have noticed elderly people in the stores recently, just buying two boxes of Rice A Roni mix for their meals.   We have not had English muffins go on sale for a while, so I am beginning to run out, so I might have to get by with having Kaiser rolls for breakfast if they are still stocked up at the day old bakery shelf at the Stop and Shop.  I threw out my Welbilt bread machine, so I can not make home made bread, but I will get by.  Not many people call me up anymore, since they are all struggling to get by, by what ever means they survive on.  Maybe they are just reading more.  Since I am well equipped for internet activity, I just keep busy with the internet.  Since I am a moderate republican in politics, I do not really need to watch www.foxnews.com all of the time to convince me of my viewpoint.  Of course over half the town of Greenwich, Connecticut are foreign residents, so they are not interested in U.S. Government politics, and they tend to go about whatever their major business activities are.  I noticed while at the Greenwich Town Hall on Tuesday, they have computers setup in the third floor room opposite the elevators with tax advisors to help people with their income taxes.  I suppose since it costs $20 round trip for people to come out from Manhattan on the train, we do not get that many visitors from Manhattan anymore, since they might want to spend their money in Manhattan.  I have noticed we do not have as many town workers working around the town anymore, so there probably have been layoffs.  Also I heard on www.foxnews.com yesterday that the New York Times laid off 100 more reporters, so obviously they will be cutting back on their content.

Today is income tax day for people to pay their Federal Taxes Internal Revenue Service.  Recently I have not been feeling as energetic, since I get tired after my walks and a few days of activity, so I have quiet days, when I rest more at home.

Although I enjoy a walk, it is somewhat distracting from one's primary focus to be out in middle of it all on Greenwich Avenue all of the time.

Queen Mary II is back in Manhattan today QM2 - Itinerary - 2010 ,  so we might be get a few visitors out here.

Note: <888> 04/14/10 Wednesday 11:40 A.M.  I went out after the last note.  I walked the whole length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by CVS, and I bought four 8 ounce boxes of Gold Emblem baking soda for .50 each for $2 all.  I then bought four 14.75 ounce cans of Alaska Bumble Bee pink salmon for $1.50 each for $6 total.  There were two retired men about to get in a fight over whom was first in line at the pharmacy counter.  I settled the fight by telling them the manager that one never sees there is close to 7 feet tall.  I then chatted with one of the men outside the store about European business.  I used the bathroom while at CVS.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  I told the receptionist about the pink Alaska salmon on sale.

Basically to make salmon cakes, one opens up the 14.75 ounce can of pink Alaska salmon, and one drains off the water with the lid.  Then one put the salmon on a large plate, and one picks through it taking out all of the bones.  Then one put the picked salmon in the a CusineArt with a cracked egg and about two to three tablespoons of seasoned Italian break crumbs.  Then one does a few pulses on the CusineArt, until it is blended smoothly together.  Then one can make two 8 ounce patties or four 4 ounce patties, and one cooks them in a frying pan with olive oil until they are lightly browned on the outside on both sides.  Since they are mostly fish, you do not want to overcook them.

I next went by the Greenwich Library.  I chatted with Security Guard.  I am worried that the Irish Travelers Con Men from Murphyville, South Carolina might be working the area again.  They have been reported on numerous times in the Greenwich Time www.greenwichtime.com .  I read the Greenwich Time.  I chatted with two reference librarians.  I checked out Mit Romney's book "No Apology, The Case for American Greatness".  I then went by the Greenwich Automotive Services Gulf gasoline station, and I bought $9.25 of self service premium gasoline for $3.299 a gallon.  Their receipt does not have the number of gallons on it, since their pumps receipt mechanism is still broken, but it would be about 2.8 gallons for 33.7 miles driving in the last nine days for 12.035 miles per gallon at odometer reading of 65764 miles.  I cleaned the outside windows, and I checked the tires for 32 PSI.  I mentioned to the service manager, I use to have a friend who lived in Katonah, New York,  and he had two old Packards in a stone barn near the John Jay homestead.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought two day old six packs of Kaiser rolls for $1.25 each six pack, a day old four pack of Apple turnovers for $2, a half gallon of Florida Natural orange juice with calcium for $2.50, a 21 ounce Family size box of Cheez-its for $3.99, and a two pound bag of baby carrots for $2.99 for $13.98 total.  I then returned home, and I chatted with a neighbor.  I put a new opened box of baking soda in the freezer and the refrigerator, and I threw out the two old boxes down the kitchen and the bathroom drains to freshen them.  I will now make and eat the same dinner as yesterday.   CIO

A relative is visiting Amsterdam in the Netherlands before going on a barge cruise of the Netherland's canals.  I called up the Stay at the Radisson Blu Hotel Amsterdam (SAS). Luxury Hotel in Amsterdam, Netherlands - Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts yesterday with Skype for 2 cents a minute, and I chatted with the relative.  I also chatted with a desk clerk at the Marriot Renaissance in Amsterdam Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel The Netherlands -Hotel accommodation in Amsterdam trying to find the relative.  I was told by the desk clerk, it was the worst winter in the Netherlands in 50 years, and the tulips are not out yet.  I did see a news report this winter that it was so cold in Amsterdam that all of the canals froze, and they were ice skating on the canals for the first time in a long time.  Thus my relative might miss the tulips.  I have only been in Amsterdam for three days back in February 1992 http://mikelouisscott.com/mls-nl.jpg before the Albertville, France Winter Olympics, and as I recall I stayed next to the Home-Heineken.nl brewery, and I even drank some Heineken while I was there.   The Dutch are some of the largest people on the world, and they even sell Heineken in hall gallon bottles there to quench the thirst of the larger people there.  Alas although I did walk around downtown Amsterdam quite a bit, in three days one can only do so much.  It was nice seeing a lot of people that looked like distant relatives.  However, a great many Dutch people seem to know English, but when I chatted with them, they did not seem to know anything about New Amsterdam in the old days.  However, they seem to be very much aware of Java and Indonesia from the Dutch East Indies Company.  They are also aware about Argentina, since a great deal of their beef comes from Argentina.  I went to about a half dozen computer stores, before personal computers were that popular.  I even saw a Bill Gates look alike at one of their local pubs.  In February 1992, there was no snow or ice, so there were a lot of Dutch people going about their local business.

They had a pedestrian street that runs about two miles west from the Palace towards the University district which is near the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam - Museum of Art and History with all of the Rembrandt paintings which I visited.  As I recall in the 15th century economic recession in the Netherlands, the Dutch used tulip bulbs for money, and some of them were quite valuable.  Since I am half Dutch, since my mother is 100% Dutch American, I think I have inherited some of the Dutch creativity, but alas there seem to be so few Dutch people around anymore, I do not get much chance to communicate with them anymore.  Still it is cheerful for me to have another relative visiting the Netherlands to let them know we are still surviving in America, less they forget about us.  I guess if I could ever afford to visit New Amsterdam about 20 miles west of me, I might see more Dutch people in this area.  However, I was told by a part time resident in this area that was related to Queen Beatrice The Dutch Royal House that the Dutch now like visiting Florida instead of visiting the colder area of New Amsterdam.  The individual was a pilot with KLM Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij - KLM.com , so I guess he would know.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/09/10 Friday 1:20 A.M..  I told the counter girl while I was at Starbucks this evening, the first deluxe coffee shop I ever went to was off Harvard Square, when I used to live in the Boston area from 1968 to 1973.  When I would go into Harvard Square at night, I would frequently go the Truc which was a modern commercial shop complex just west of Harvard Square on Brattle Street.  There was the First Pier One Imports there.  Also on the top floor was the Club Casablanca, where I would have a Heineken.  On the basement level there was a deluxe gourmet coffee shop, where I would have a cappuccino.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/08/10 Thursday 11:45 P.M..  I woke up at 7:30 A.M. this morning, when they started working on the window to the east side of my apartment.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with honey and milk and a sliced banana, a toasted English muffin with Smart Balance spread, a 50% to 50% mixture of fruit juice punch and cold filtered water, and a cup of coffee with truvia and milk.  I washed the breakfast dishes, and I watched the news on television.  I went back to bed at 10:30 A.M., because it was so hot in my apartment about 82 degrees Fahrenheit.  I woke up at 5 P.M., when I chatted with a relative.  I threw out the garbage, and I picked up the mail.  the Eton radio adapter for my Nokia AT&T Go Phone arrived, and I put it by the Eton radio.  I ate a ham and cheese sandwich on a Kaiser roll with mayo, and 1/4th of a 5.3 ounce tube of Pringles reduced potato chips, and a dill pickle slice and a glass of watered down punch.  I made my bed.  I was able to open the left living room window about two feet.  I tied its curtain back with an electrical extension cord.  I put the Lasko box fan in the window on low speed blowing air into the apartment, so it is positioned underneath the raised lamp.  The apartment is now 75 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is a bit cooler with fresh air.  I showered, and I cleaned up.  I chatted with a relative.  I went by the A&P Fresh, but they did not have any large bags of hazelnut coffee beans.  I went by the Greenwich Library, and I chatted with a couple of staff members.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area.  I sat out at various locations.  I used the bathroom at Starbucks.  I stopped by CVS, and I bought a 12 pack of A&W Diet root beer 12 ounce cans for $3.67 and .60 can deposit and .22 tax for $4.49 total.  I finished my walk, and I sat out for a while looking at the tulips at the veterans monument.   Most of the other tulip and daffodil beds downtown are in full bloom.  I returned home.  I threw out all of the nine year old drink mixers and the old cans of soda in the lower drawer in the refrigerator.  I washed out the lower refrigerator drawer and its compartment.  I put in the 12 cans of December 2008 12 ounce Diet Coke with lime and the new cans of A&W Diet root beer.  I still have six old 12 ounce bottles of St. Pauli dark beer in the refrigerator behind the Brita water filter that I could use for making hotdogs or whatever.  I also have 12 old bottles of various Kennebunkport beer on the wire rack at the bedroom entrance.  I think the beer is about five years old or more.  I will now make the same sautéed London Broil dinner at two nights ago.

I have a relative taking a cruise on a barge in the Netherlands soon, so the tulips are probably out there too.

For people whom are afraid to cross the Atlantic Ocean, there is the  Holland, Michigan tulip festival that is usually in the first week of May.  It is colder on Lake Michigan this time of year, so the tulips come out later.

Holland, Michigan Town One of the Happiest Places in America - ABC News

My mother's Bovan family were some the original settlers in the Holland, Michigan area coming to the United States of America around 1842.

They use to make Chris Craft boats there.  They have a Heinz pickle factory there.  Holland Furnace use to be there.  They grow Scotch Pine Christmas trees.  They have lots of Dutch Reform churches.   They also have Hope College: Holland, Michigan, USA .  In the summer it is a popular beach resort on Lake Michigan about two hours north of Chicago, Illinois on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.  It is about 20 miles west of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  They have also have Russ's Drive-in Hamburger stand that has the best fried onions rings I have ever eaten in the world.  They also grow celery in Holland, Michigan, and they raise turkeys.  I have not been there since about 1961, so it might have changed a bit.  They also grow blueberries there.  CIO

Isolated thunderstorms today and 58 to 76 degrees Fahrenheit.  I seem to be doing less on the internet recently, since with the global recession, there is not as much happening on the internet.  Also writers are not producing the usual content, since they do not have any work.  I suppose, I could try to do some creative writing, but I have been pretty much stuck in Greenwich, Connecticut for the last 26 years, and working on computers and technology for the last 20 years, so it is sort of hard to change my general routines.  Also since I am also 60 years old, I am slowing down a bit, and I do not do stuff as fast as I use to.  Also my apartment has been warmer at 77 degrees Fahrenheit recently with the warmer weather outside, and the warmer apartment tends to make me more tired than usual.

I will eat a corn muffin with watered down punch before going to bed.  Earlier in my day, I also at another corn muffin.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/01/10 Thursday 8:35 P.M..  I woke up last night, and I ate two bowls of Cheez-its.  I finally woke up at 11:30 A.M. this morning.  I chatted with a relative. I showered, and I cleaned up.  I threw out the garbage.  I sat around outside with neighbors.  The mail person arrived.  I received my rent statement from the Greenwich Housing Authority.  I went by the Chase Bank just west of Greenwich Avenue on West Putnam Avenue.  I then went by the Wachovia Bank on Havemeyer Place, and I paid my rent to the Greenwich Housing Authority.  I then went to my 3 P.M. appointment until 4 P.M..  I then drove up I-95 East in the holiday rush hour traffic coming out of New York City at 15 to 20 miles an hour to Interstate 7 North, and I went to the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles on the Norwalk Wilton border.  They were only open until 6:30 P.M. today.  They are closed tomorrow on Good Friday.  It took from 5 P.M. to 6:15 P.M. waiting in line to get my Connecticut Driver's License renewed for six years for $66.  I then returned back to Greenwich on the Merritt Parkway from Interstate 7 getting off at North Street.  I picked up my mail.

I paid my www.cl-p.com electricity bill, my www.cablevision.com Digital Cablevision bill, Optimum Voice, and Optimum Boost bill, and my www.verizon.com telephone bill.  I printed out my Microsoft Money 2007 March 2010 income versus spending bill.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/01/10 Thursday 1:55 A.M..  I donated $5 at George Bush Presidential Library Foundation Donation Page .

I will now shut down the primary Vista computer, and I will go to bed soon.

I have a 3 P.M. appointment today, so I have to be up at noon.

Note: <888> 04/01/10 Thursday 1:00 A.M..  I know BILTMORE in Asheville, North Carolina, Americas Largest Home and More! built new horse stables, so maybe they keep their horses there.   The last time I spoke with Fred Von Mierers a couple of years before he supposedly died, and I told him he should visit Oslo, Norway, he told me was cooking the chicken soup he was cooking with fresh game raise organic chickens from a farm on Long Island, so maybe the Rockefellers have a poultry farm out on Long Island.  I changed the six wall calendars to April 2010.  I ate a corn muffin with watered down punch.  If anyone is interested in farming, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is suppose to be quite good at it, besides having the computer center at National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois .  However, they tend to have tornado weather problems out there.  CIO

Note: <888> 04/01/10 Thursday 12:20 A.M..  Today is George Gordon Cary's 60th birthday, so he is older than me.  He told me a number of years ago, he had lunch with Rodman Rockefeller Rodman Rockefeller speaking at dedication on Flickr - Photo Sharing! , so I guess the Rockefellers keep horses somewhere in the world.  It says here Rodman Rockefeller, 68, Dies - Active in Latin Trade Efforts - Obituary; Biography - NYTimes.com that he died 10 years ago.  However, since he lived on East 52nd street, when I was around http://mikelouisscott.com/fred.htm at 420 East 49th street, I might have seen him around.  His Aunt Abby lived on East 52nd street too, in the Stuart Johnson designed house.   Also John D. Rockefeller III managed to eak out a living at One Beekman Place, so I guess that was sort of their family neighborhood besides the uptown addresses.  Who knows maybe, I use to have breakfast with him at the Greek Coffee shop at 50th street and First Avenue on the Northeast Corner.  Around Christmas Time in 1974, I saw John Davidson Rockefeller III staring at the 57th street window of Tiffany's, but I did not bother him.  I suppose once Republicans move out of Manhattan, they forget about you, particularly after living with Cyrus Vance's head of word processing.  CIO
