Basically in Greenwich, Connecticut with the prolonged Obama recession or depression, we have returned to our pre Ronald Reagan days of little old ladies living off of tea and toast. We are sort of lucky here, because someone from Lipton tea used to belong to the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and with all of the competing tea merchants, we have a lot of other teas for sale here. We have a nuclear power plant nearby in Indian Point, New York to keep the tea warm if you can afford the electricity, but I think our electricity here in Greenwich, Connecticut comes mostly from Natural Gas out of Bridgeport, Connecticut; and I have to pretend I do not know anyone in the natural gas business. Also we have the George Weston Bakeries Arnold bread factory here, so we also have plenty of bread here, but we mostly we only seem to get English muffins on sale, providing the grain trucks from Archer Daniel Midland arrive from Decatur, Illinois; but once again I have to pretend that I do not know anyone from Illinois. Basically living off of tea and toast in a town where the town motto is frugality and fortune is sort of the norm here, so long term residents generally do not expect anything to get better unlike the more affluent republican days of old when the Rockefeller Exxon group could afford to occasionally visit us here in this neck of the woods at our various sporting clubs. Since they all moved to Texas, I guess we have to wait until warmer weather, when some of them might once again return to this area of their former happy hunting grounds.

Note: <888> 02/27/10 Saturday 11:55 P.M.. I went out after the last note. I stopped by the front of CVS on Greenwich Avenue, and I had a cigarette. I did not go inside. There is a small store Christopher Pficher south of CVS that has a small collection of clothing items and a store in East Hampton and one elsewhere I forget. I then went downtown, and I cleaned off the snow at the two benches at the veterans monument and the four benches at the Greenwich Post Office and the three benches in front of the Senior and the Arts center. I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area. The new Belgium Bakery was having a big party, and it was full of people. I sat out at various locations. After my walk, I used the bathroom at Starbucks when it was just closing. It seemed to have its usual regulars. I was sitting out by the veterans monument, and a couple was walking black Scottie, and they told me the white one is called a West Highland Terrier. When we used to live near Dorothy Bush, one of the neighbors had a black and white one. They reminded the Scotch Whisky with the black and white ones is called "Black and White". Back in the good old days when Chemstrand was more profitable and Stillman Rockefeller was on the board of directors of Monsanto that owned half of Chemstrand, the Chemstrand company DC3 use to fly up to Scotland all of the time and bring back cases of Scotch whisky which I guess made the officers of the company more cheerful.
I next drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road. There were a half dozen houses across the street from the Indian Harbor House that appeared to be without electricity. There were two Verizon trucks working there on a underground cable access opening. I then returned home. CIO

Note: <888> 02/27/10 Saturday 7:15 P.M.. At The Genographic Project - Human Migration, Population Genetics, Maps, DNA - National Geographic , my maternal Boven family from the Netherlands DNA comes up with project kit ID "FW563MQX5N" which tracks them into Western Europe and Scandinavia and Eastern Europe and India out of Africa and the Middle East.
More interesting is that my paternal father's Y chromosome DNA of the Scott family that has been in the U.S.A. for 400 years comes up with project ID "FWTY9438M7" which tracks them out of Africa to the Middle East and then to India and then to Russia and then to Western Europe including Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Middle Western Europe and Spain. Thus the Scott family is a well traveled family.
Of course the National Geographic test does not give a time line for the family DNA evolution, but more than likely the evolution of mankind spreading to the north had to do with the thawing after the ice ages. CIO

Note: <888> 02/25/10 Thursday 7:05 P.M.. Just to be on the safe side, I put away in the bedroom closet my old Braun 3057 production code 433H machine, and I still have the old white Salton single cup drip coffee maker that came from Odd Job close to 20 years ago for $20 that uses expensive paper coffee filters. I also have the old white Krups drip coffee and espresso machine that I have used quite a bit. Steve Whitaker when he volunteered in the Mews thrift shop cleaned it up, and I bought it there for half price for $10. I still have the Cuisine Art Model 7 blade set that might work in the Cuisine Art in Kennebunkport, Maine, and I have a spare regular Cuisine Art like the one on my kitchen counter.
And low and behold, I found an older model like new white Krups espresso cappuccino machine with all of its accessories, so I put that out on the left kitchen counter by the coffee grinders to have available to make single cups of coffee.
As I always said, one's own best thrift shop is one's apartment or house. I bought the white Krups machine for about $5 half price a few years ago at the old Greenwich Hospital thrift shop. The new Greenwich Hospital thrift shop no longer carries electronics, so old electronics must be ending up elsewhere in the area, possibly the Salvation Army store in Port Chester, New York. Who knows?
I still have the like new black Braun coffee maker in the kitchen, but I never make that much coffee. CIO

Helmsley estate gets new brokers - GreenwichTime . A friend of mine in the real estate business told me, in today's market, they would be lucky to get $30 million for the Helmsley estate. Back in the 1960s, when I use to use it for a play house, it only cost $250,000 with the original property, and in 1983 when I moved back to Greenwich, Connecticut, the Helmsleys bought it for $18 million with 80 acres, so that give you an idea of the way real estate prices have changed over the years. Sometime in the future when I have time, I could get rid of the Northgate Syntax computer, and move its LCD monitor to the Epox computer, and take the large 20 inch Dell CRT monitor from there and get rid of it. I could donate the Northgate Syntax computer after formatting its hard drives to the Old Greenwich Rummage Room. I am not sure about getting rid of the bedroom Gigabyte computer, because I needs its Gigabyte motherboard as a spare part for my primary Vista computer, but I could put in the Matsonic motherboard in it, which would take time. If I got rid of it with the Matsonic motherboard, I could move the Abit computer from the oak dining table in the living room to the bedroom desk. However, all of that would take time, and for now there is no rush. Usually one does spring cleaning when it is spring, and not in the middle of the winter. CIO

Note: <888> 02/06/10 Saturday 11:55 A.M.. On a minor point of dispute, back in August 1980, I had either a heart attack or a stroke. They gave me the Last Rights at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan, and then they refused me treatment. I went to the Greenwich Hospital that also refused me treatment. I thus gave up on the East Coast, and I flew to California and Maui, Hawaii; where I did aerobics, and I worked out at the gymnasium at the pool at the Hyatt Hotel in La Hainia, Maui. I got myself in better shape. I met Joel in Laguna Beach who had a beach house there, and his roommate was the officer in charge of Camp Pendleton. They took me to lunch at Dana Point in California. When I eventually returned to the East Coast, I felt better; so possibly they have better medicine in California or Maui. I slept quite a bit when I was in Maui, so maybe it was at one of those secret hospitals where they give one treatment without the patient knowing it. I have been doing better since then, since I try to keep physically active despite the two pack a day cigarette habit I have. Whatever the real story, the local idiots here in Greenwich, Connecticut do not know it all. I have been under constant medical supervision here in Greenwich, Connecticut for the last 26 years, so I tend to rest a lot and try to get exercise when the weather is not too bad.
On the apartment window problem, the Greenwich Housing Authority representative that I chatted with yesterday has never seen my apartment that I created with over 20 years of constant work. Thus I feel, I know the over situation better than a casual observer. If I ever need to get rid of some of my furniture or computer items, I can always throw a tag sale, but at today's prices, they would be a lot more expensive to replace if needed. CIO

Ronald W. Reagan (president of United States) -- Britannica Online Encyclopedia
I attended Ronald Reagan's inaugural in January 1981 on a very cold day. It was a very joyous event, and I got to see him several times that day including at the Metal of Honor reception at the Hilton Hotel. Of course I knew Jimmy Carter's people too, so I also got to see all of them. When I attended George H.W. Bush's inaugural in January 1989, it was even colder, so instead of standing out in the cold, my friends and I watched it on television while we had lunch at the Dutch Inn where we were staying in Georgetown. I went back down to Washington D.C. one more time after that, possibly the following year, when it was zero degrees Fahrenheit, and President Bush was away in Argentina, so they were doing maintenance at the White House http://mikelouisscott.com/mlsdc.jpg , so I got to see some of the formal sitting rooms. I liked the big old gold Steinway piano in the lobby. The Van Buren room caught my eye, since in the old days, people were smaller, so the furniture looked very delicate like only tiny people could sit in it. It sort of reminded me of an elderly lady's well maintained house suitable for tea parties and chamber music events. CIO

Of course, if one were in North American Aerospace Defense Command, one could probably hitch a ride to the Winter Olympics, but you would have to be able to prove it, if you get my drift, and not be any sort of pretend Hollywood Actor type. Having lived around NORAD when I was in Florida Keys, when they would come down from Homestead Air Force base on weekends, I have a bit of first hand experience to know they are a rather formidable professional group.
In the old days, NORAD personnel were required to carry side arms at all times, and to be on alert status in case called into action. From what I know now, today they spend a lot of time looking at computers, and are sort of totally oblivious to the outside world.
Of course, if I really were in the www.af.mil or the Canada's Air Force / Bienvenue à la Force aérienne du Canada, they could also move my whole apartments contents any where in the world, but alas I am just a civilian that reads civilian news about the military, and from what I know which is not too much, the guy that looked like Tom Watson in Key West, Florida might have been Charles Lindbergh Charles Lindbergh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia a retired U.S. Air Force Four Star General if you get my drift. Note: <888> 02/06/10 Saturday 7:05 A.M.. If one were thinking about attending the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games Medals Results Schedule Sports : Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympics , one could probably fly Air Canada: Flights, Airline Tickets, Airfare Deals, Car Rental, Hotels & Vacations . I still have my Air Canada flight bag that somebody that looked like Tony Snowden gave me in Toronto, Canada in December 1983. Of course, one would need a U.S. Passport to enter and return from Canada, and if one had another passport from some other country, you would probably need a Canadian Visa. All of that can take time.
Richard Van Marter | Real Estate Agent once told me he knew Hilary Clinton's interior decorator U.S. Department of State , but he does not return his telephone calls anymore, so that probably would not work to expedite matters.
If one had the proper documents, and one knew His Highness the Aga Khan's 73rd Birthday - Mowlana Hazar Imam's 73rd Birthday - December 13, 2009 , one might get a free ride on his private Canadian Bombardier Inc. jet, but since he is legally a Swiss Citizen, you would probably need a Swiss passport and a Canadian Visa.
One probably could not take the train, since I do not think the trains run across Canada in the winter, but you probably could take Amtrak www.amtrak.com across country in the United States and travel up the west coast of the Unites States.
If one were a Road Warrior with the proper documents, one might try driving the direct route across the northern United States on Interstate 90 West, but that could be hazardous this time of year in the far north country, except for maybe a trucker with a big truck.
Another safer longer way would be try drive from Greenwich, Connecticut to Jacksonville, Florida on Interstate 95 South for 15 hours and 22 minutes or 972 miles, and the on Interstate 10 West from Jacksonville, Florida to San Diego, California or 36 hours and 2,341 miles, and then from San Diego, California to Victoria, British Columbia 22 hours and 31 minutes or 1,351 miles for a total of 63 hours and 53 minutes and 4,664 miles from Greenwich, Connecticut to Victoria British Columbia the long way around versus the direct route through the cold mountainous north country of 2 days and one hour or 2,996 miles.
Of course either way, one could stop by Redmond, Washington nearby to see how simply the Microsoft www.microsoft.com computer people live, and wish you had known someone from The Boeing Company . CIO

Note: <888> 02/02/10 Tuesday 2:15 A.M.. Happy Ground Hogs Day. I went out after the last note. I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the Train Station area. The only place opened was the Sundown saloon. I noticed on upper Greenwich Avenue across from CVS, they are putting in a new shop. I sat out at various locations. After my walk, I drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road, and it looks perfectly normal down there. The 600 Steamboat Road building still looks vacant, since the Royal Bank of Scotland has moved to its new office headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. I noticed on the way back that the 24 hour Glory Days Diner was closed, but lights were on in back. It looked like McDonalds and Wendy's were just closing. The Shell and Mobil stations on West Putnam Avenue were opened. I picked up the mail.
The Sony TV RM-Y156 Remote Control - Brand New! - eBay (item 320405962654 end time Feb-24-10 18:59:49 PST) for $9.99 with free shipping arrived. I put two AA alkaline batteries in it. It works just fine on the kitchen Sony television. I set up its menu items including adjusting the color on the Sony TV so it is better. I dropped my key chain on the floor in the hallway, and the plastic white whale scrimshaw broke at its tail, so I took it off the key chain. I might try fixing it soon with Crazy Glue. CIO

Back in my youth, I knew one of the bigger people in Manhattan that was connected up with the Scottish Guard Corporation. However, out here in Greenwich, Siberia; there do not seem to be many Scottish awake at night. Since back in the winter of 1983 I covered the Norwegian Royal Palace kongehuset.no - Forsiden , when I go out here in Greenwich, Siberia late at night, I called it "The Freezing Norwegian Patrol". I am not sure if I am still up to it at my advanced age of close to 60 years old. However, I will now shut down the primary Vista computer, and I will shower and clean up, and I will go out to explore the downtown area providing my Audi starts. I have not started it since this past Thursday, but it is only 30 degrees Fahrenheit outside right now, and it usually starts when it is 10 degrees Fahrenheit. CIO
