Good afternoon.  This is Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo with an important message concerning a serious winter storm arriving in our area later tonight.  The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 7pm today and lasting until 6am Tuesday.  This long lasting major storm may bring total snowfall of between 12 and 18 inches.  Strong winds gusting to almost 40 miles per hour may produce blizzard-like conditions making travel extremely unsafe and wind chill factors well below freezing.  The strongest portion of the storm should arrive Monday afternoon.  There is potential for flooding in low lying and coastal areas on Monday with the high tide.

The heavy snow and winds may bring down trees and power lines.  Preparations should be made now for power outages, including alternatives for warming and medical necessities. 

Town of Greenwich Public Safety crews will be on standby throughout the storm.  The lobby of the Public Safety Complex will be open as a warming center if needed.  Public Works and Parks crews will be working their best to keep our roads open.  In order to assist their efforts the Board of Selectmen has declared a snow emergency for the Town of Greenwich effective at 8pm tonight, January 31^st.  This means that there will be no parking allowed on designated snow emergency routes, which are posted with signs and listed on the Town of Greenwich web site.

This storm will be impactful to our entire community for the next few days.  If you have any appointments on Monday or Tuesday, including Covid vaccinations, please verify that they will be open before you attempt travel.  We encourage you to re-schedule appointments now, if possible.

As you prepare now for the storm, please pay attention to those around you who may need a little extra assistance.  Like all the challenges we have faced this past year, we can get through this together.

01/30/21 Saturday 5:40 A.M.  When I was down in South Florida and Key West in the winters of 1976 -1977 and 1977-1978, there was a small Scottish presence in Key West, the Scottish Rite Masonic building was in the Key West electric company's office building.  My friend  Rob Glore from Lake Forest, Illinois that had gone to school in Switzerland and whose grandmother was a DuPont own the building next door with a craft shop.  Back then the DuPont family also own the largest chain of banks in Florida called the First National Bank of Florida, and they also owned the Saint Joe paper company in Florida.  They Reynolds family also had a primary residential street in Key West named after them I guess from their tobacco business in Cuba.  I had a few younger friends my age down there, but the older retired people just thought we were some of the local youth wandering around.  Back then all sorts of snow birds would hang out in South Florida before going north in the warmer weather.  The Army Corps of Engineers did rebuild a 140 miles of four lane highway with bridges in Florida keys in that period, so it helped develop the Florida Keys more which a lot of the local people were against.  Even when they restored the old Casa Marina Hotel where I lived with John Bolton in the Winter of 1978, most of the locals were against it.  The Equitable Life Insurance Company out of Chicago financed that project for the Marriott Corporation to rebuild the Casa Marina.  In the winter of 1979, I returned briefly to Key West for a couple of days while living in Daytona, Florida.  In August 1980, on a trip across country, I drove down and back to Key West before heading out to California on my last trip out west.  I returned to Key West in February 1982, when I had to move out of Julie Bolton's Manhattan apartment when it was minus 26 degrees Fahrenheit in Manhattan, and it had all changed in Key West, and I did not have any friends down there, and somebody in the United States government with Democratic Party bios filed a false computer report on me, which got me into a bit of trouble, until my Greenwich lawyer from Round Hill Road solved the problem.  When one takes off traveling, one never knows what one will run into, so now at my older age of 70, I prefer to just stay close to home, where nobody bothers me except the colder weather.  CIO

01/28/21 Thursday 4:05 A.M.  On the HP I 5 Desktop on the lower right of the far end of the oak dining table.  I had to install Windows 10 from a  Windows 10 USB pen drive.  After it was installed, I had to go to settings, update, recovery, restart, and then create a System Restore DVD.  I then had to boot it from an external USB DVD/RW drive, and I am now restoring the Windows 10 backup image.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

01/26/21 Tuesday 2:25 A.M.  I went outside.  I then went out to www.cvs.com at 644 West Putnam Avenue.  I bought buy one get one 50% off Bayer 200 count 81 mg. aspirin and 30 count 81 mg. aspirin less $3 off mail coupon for $23.21 total.  I then bought a standard size medium www.mypillow.com for $39.99 less $5 bonus bucks from the previous purchase, less $9 from a CVS mail coupon, and less $5 from a coupon from the previous purchase and $1.33 tax for $22.32 total.  I then went downtown, and I drove around downtown and the train station twice to charge up my car battery.  I also sat out at the Senior and the Arts Center for a while.  I then returned home.  I sat outside.  I put the new pillow with a pillow protector and pillow case with the other My Pillow on the right side of the bed, and I moved the King Size pillow there to the back side of of the Ethan Allen recliner.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.

Good afternoon. This is First Selectman Fred Camillo with important information for our older residents who want to sign up for the COVID-19 vaccine.

Residents who are 75 and older are eligible to sign up for the vaccine which will be available – BY APPOINTMENT ONLY – at four locations in Town.

Starting January 25, Greenwich Hospital will have a daily clinic at the Brunswick School King Street campus in addition to its Northeast Medical Group location at 500 W. Putnam Avenue.

Family Centers will operate a clinic at the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center in Old Greenwich. And the Greenwich Health Department will have a clinic open 3 days a week at Town Hall.

All vaccinations are by appointment only – walk-ins CANNOT be accommodated.

01/19/21 Tuesday 7:00 A.M.  The last time I was in Palm Beach, Florida was at the end of October 1983, when I had visited Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a week.  I dropped off a Canadian named Ryan Robinson at the West Palm Beach airport.  I gave him $200 to fly back to Cabbage town in Toronto.  I then drove over to Newport Richey, Florida to visit my father and then back to Vero Beach, and then I returned to www.nantucket.net to wash dishes.  CIO

01/18/21 Monday 6:50 A.M.  The Watson family of www.ibm.com lived in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binghamton,_New_York and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_IBM ; when they took over IBM from the Budny family.  I had a classmate at www.lfc.edu named Tom Budny whose family got out of the unprofitable computer business and had a wholesale tire dealership in Trenton, New Jersey.  That is like big truck tires if you get my drift.  When I visited Bermuda in April 1968 on Spring Break with Max Whiteman, Hunt Collins, and Myles McGough from my Taft School class, I met Wadie Watson III from Buffalo, New York; and he seemed to be quite wealthy, so maybe he was from the IBM Watson family.  In Bermuda we stayed with four guys from the Middlesex Boys school in Concord, Mass. at the Glendon Guest House.  We would hold "High Tea" every day for a large group of students.  I even have a few pictures of that.  CIO

01/18/21 Monday 5:40 A.M.  I hate to tell you that Steamboat Road in Greenwich is a public road although it has been fixed up quite a bit over the years.  I lived at 700 Steamboat Road from June 1984 to January 1989 in a $400 to $475 a month welfare studio apartment over looking the waterfront.  Until I got a car around October 1986, I used to walk from the bottom of Steamboat Road up Greenwich Avenue to the library to read, and then I would eat dinner at the Greenwich Hospital cafeteria for about $3 and return back down to Steamboat Road unless I went back to Greenwich Library.  I had a half size refrigerator and hot plate that I could do some cooking on once I got a car.  A relative of the Harriman family from Sands Point, Long Island, a friend whose father worked for the United States State department, a friend who lived next to Helen Clay Frick in Bedford, New York and a friend from Brazil that knew the Aga Khan use to visit me there.  While there, I bought an $89 Samsung 13 inch color television from Woolworths on Greenwich Avenue, so I made an investment in Samsung.  I had a local judge as a neighbor, a couple from South Africa, and a Japanese family.  We use to compare notes on the pier on Steamboat Road.  While growing up in Greenwich, my family were members of the Greenwich Country Club, but I knew two people whose fathers were commodores of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club.  While living down there on Steamboat Road, President Trump was a neighbor living in Indian Harbor where another relative had also lived.  While there, I met somebody in Greenwich whose family owned Bessemer Trust, and they now have offices on Steamboat Road.  Also a distant relative also has a house on Steamboat Road.  I covered the waterfront on Steamboat Road all of these years, until I figured out it was costing me a dollar a day to drive down there and back from Greenwich Avenue.  I even once chatted with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden down there on the pier; so technically it is Royal Pier for whatever it is worth.  There was a good view of the Watson family house and Victor Borge's house.  When I was down there General Reinsurance owned the office building down there, and I once tried to sell it to Warren Buffet, but he already owned it, and told me he had a house in Scarsdale, New York.  With the Delamar Hotel https://delamar.com/ replacing the old Showboat Hotel, we get a lot more upscale visitors down there.  Once on the pier down there, a young fellow from Scotland challenged me to a duel with broad swords for whatever I owned, so maybe he thought I was my neighbor Donald Trump.  I even chatted with Dr. Palai from India with a black turban down there, the day I was shot at by a sniper at Tod's Point.  At the gate house to Indian Harbor, there also use to a car with a United States State Department license plate too.  John Marganot a former First Selectman also has an office building down there.  The former top Marine in town also use to live on Davenport down there.  A friend took me to Maneros a couple of times, and once we sat next to Rudolf Juliani the mayor of New York.  On my birthday, if I could afford it, I would buy a steak sandwich with onion rings at Maneros for $8 and eat it on the waterfront of the steps of the Royal Bank of Scotland which was also in that big office building down there.  I lived down there during Hurricane Gloria, and the waves came up to the entrance of the Indian Harbor Yacht Club, and the Showboat Hotel parking lot and the Island Beach parking lot had a couple of feet of water or more.  Alas my ship never came in.  I will now go outside again and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

01/17/21 Sunday 4:00 P.M.  I went downtown to www.cvs.com on Greenwich Avenue.  I toured the store.  I then sat out in the park across the street.  I then went back into CVS, and I bought a 50 ounce Softsoap antibacterial soap for $7.99 and .51 tax for $8.50 total.  I then drove down to the Senior and the Arts Center.  I sat out for a while.  I walked lower Greenwich Avenue twice.  I bought a Connecticut lottery ticket for $2 at Zyn Stationary.  I used the bathroom at Le Petit Cotien and also at www.starbucks.com .  After my two walks, I sat out for a while longer.  I then drove down by the waterfront on Steamboat Road.  I then went to the Acme grocery store.  I bought a five gallon bottle of Primo Vermont Spring water with bottle return for $7.49, buy one get one free of 16 ounce Suski chicken Marcella for $8.99 both, a 24 ounce Simply Mashed garlic potatoes for $3.79, and four various Maria Callender dinners for $2.50 each for $30.27 total.  I then returned home.  I sat outside.  I used my little folding cart to bring up the water, and I also brought up the groceries, and I put them away.  I then put the cart back in the car, and I sat outside.  I then filed this report.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

01/15/21 Friday 9:30 P.M.  I went back to sleep until 7 P.M..  I went outside, and I drank a brewed coffee.  I picked up the mail.  The order with tracking of https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction?qtc_tLabels1=9405508205497758276364 for https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-Wireless-Keyboard/393081314193?epid=111379104&hash=item5b8578db91%3Ag%3AcaIAAMXQDjhQ84sE&LH_BIN=1 for $18 and $8.25 shipping and $1.67 tax for $27.92 total arrived.  I hooked it up to the Imac to the left of the primary work computer.  I set it up with Bluetooth settings, but to log on first, I had to use the old keyboard.  One turns it on with the right button on the upper right back.  I moved the old wireless keyboard and a new wireless mouse to the Apple Mac Mini late 2012 to the right side of the primary work computer.  Bad news is I got a letter from the Social Security Administration, and they are lowering my Disability SSI income by ten percent or $80 a month.  I mailed copies of the letter to my Social Worker and the Greenwich Housing Authority using two 55 cent forever stamps.  I chatted with a friend.  I went outside again.  I will now go outside again.

At Zyn Stationary, I bought an Ace's High scratch card for a dollar, and I lost.  At the Greenwich Cigar store, I bought another Ace's High scratch card for a dollar, and I lost.  After my walk, I sat out for a long time in front of the Senior and the Arts Center.  I then drove back to CVS on Greenwich Avenue.  I sat out in the park across the street twice.  At CVS, I bought for 75% off a Craig tower speaker for $12.49 and .79 tax for $13.29 total.  I then returned home.  I sat outside.  I will unpack the speaker later.  I filed this report.  CIO

01/14/21 Thursday 7:05 A.M.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed cup of coffee.  I used to have a friend from Brazil, when I lived on Steamboat Road over 30 years ago that knew the Aga Khan in Greenwich, and he claimed his grandfather had over a million acres of coffee plantation in Brazil, so I have had a coffee connection for a long time.  When I went to school in Italy, I knew Juan Echavarez whose family had the original land grant in Columbia.  There used to be a European coffee shop downstairs from where I lived in Italy, and there was another European coffee shop before that off www.harvard.edu Square, when I worked at Polaroid.  When I knew Wiley Middleton in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1976, he claimed the Middleton shipping company out of Brunswick, Georgia imported all of the coffee into this country, and they had two big warehouses in Jacksonville, Florida and New Orleans, Louisiana with hundred pound bags of coffee.  At the Taft school, I had a classmate David Maxwell, from the Maxwell coffee family.  In www.nantucket.com , worked for two six month periods at the Gordon Folger Hotel.  When I used Fred Von Mierers apartment at 420 East 49th Street in Manhattan from October 1973 to February 1975, he was always sending me down to Christopher Street in the West Village to https://mcnultys.com/ to buy Viennese Blend coffee beans.  My father knew Huntington Hartford whose A&P grocery store chain owned Eight O'clock coffee.  When my family were members of the Greenwich Country Club here in Greenwich, we knew the Bickford family that had a lot of Bicford Coffee shops.  I have also kept an eye on the local www.starbucks.com coffee shop on Greenwich Avenue, since it opened a long time ago, not to mention the CFCF coffee shop across from www.cvs.com Greenwich Avenue. 01/12/21 Tuesday 5:25 A.M.  I drove downtown, and I drove around downtown and down Steamboat Road.  I then went to www.cvs.com at 644 West Putnam Avenue, and I used the bathroom at the store, and I toured the store.  I bought a loaf of Pepperidge Farm 15 grain bread for $4.29.  I then drove around back downtown again.  I then parked at the Board of Education parking lot.  I sat out for a while.  I then walked the lower Greenwich Avenue area.  There are a few new stores.  I then sat out some more.  I then went back by CVS at 644 West Putnam Avenue.  I bought a standard queen size medium fill https://www.mypillow.com/ pillow for $39.99 less $19.18 with three CVS coupons that I had and $1.32 tax for $22.13 total.  I then returned home.  I sat outside.  I then put a pillow protector and a pillow case on the new My Pillow pillow, and I put it on the right side of the bed on top of a King Size pillow.  I moved one of the King Size pillows to on top of the Ethan Allen recliner.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

01/10/21 Sunday 4:45 A.M.  When another Michael Scott was president Apple computer, the first thing he did was tell Steve Jobs to take a bath.  I guess out there in California with very little water, they do not clean up too frequently, and maybe that is the way to get ahead at Apple.  When I visited Jimmy Eldert a few times at the University of California at Santa Cruz from 1978 to 1980, in the men's locker room at the gynasium, they had big signs saying to limit showers to three minutes.  Possibly a sauna or steam bath would use less water out there.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

01/10/21 Sunday 3:50 A.M.  I have not cleaned up since this past Tuesday, but I am trying to be environmentally friendly by not wasting too much energy on hot water to clean up.  I look like a Dirty Old Man.  I will now go outside again.  CIO

01/10/21 Sunday 3:35 A.M.  On the bedroom Apple Imac with the external hard drive turned on with its power button, the bedroom Imac boots up from the external hard drive SSD drive, when the ALT key is pressed on the Windows keyboard.  Of course for it to go on line as usual the first 24 port Net Switch has to be turned on in the living room, and the 8 port Net Switch on the bedroom desk has to be turned on.   Thus it boots up faster than with the old internal IDE hard drive.  It is very dangerous to try to replace the internal IDE drive with an SSD drive, since one has to some how remove the Imac screen without cracking it, which I have already done my an inch previously.  CIO

01/10/21 Sunday 2:45 A.M.  On the bedroom Imac, I installed a external USB hard drive holder with a new 240 GB SSD drive.  On the Windows Keyboard, I used the key stroke Windows R to boot the Apple restore facility, and I started Disk Utility.  I am now cloning the primary hard drive to the external hard drive.  I should then be able to use the Windows Keyboard ALT key to boot options to boot from the external SSD drive.  I will now go outside and drink a brewed coffee.  CIO

01/07/21 Thursday 10:00 P.M.  I watched another 25% of the Netflix movie about Steve Jobs.  When I used to visit a pub over in nearby White Plains, New York before 1992, there was a regular patron from Westport, Connecticut that looked like Steve Jobs, and he told me his father was the head of personnel for www.ibm.com .  Someone also gave a friend the Seattle Chamber of Commerce video tape.  I was offered a job in that period in security with www.ibm.com ,but I was told that www.lfc.edu would not release my transcript, because I still owed them $7,500 for an independent studies course I did at Polaroid in the summer of 1971 writing Cobal for an IBM 360 main frame computer as an independent contractor with them.  Thus Lake Forest College kept all of my IBM manuals and the print outs of the spread sheet that I wrote in Cobal.  As I recall the weekend after I spent writing the program I hitch hiked down to Martha's Vineyard and camped out for a few days on Chappaquiddick during a Northeastern storm to unwind from my work.  CIO
